Interesting trivia: Satoshi Kon knew PA was going to get a late-night time slot, so he had Susumu Hirasawa compose an OP theme with a loud opening and a thudding beat, so that viewers would be startled awake when the show came on. Brilliance! R.I.P. Satoshi Kon. You were truly great at screwing with our minds.
Beautiful song...when the lyrics are translated you come to understand the bit of sadness mixed in with this seemingly jolly sounding dance beat. "Marvelous mushroom shaped cloud in the sky..."
thesilentcrow It's actually not that sad if you keep going on, "Listen to the wind blowing in the grass; discard your depression Believe that tomorrow will be sunny too; never worry about having any dreams" Kinda inspirational to me
Indeed it does start off inspirational in that bit but "never worry about having any dreams" sounds a bit ominous, like death is on his way to steal away the dreams. Then considering the mood and overall brutality of the anime, this song, while beautiful and poetic, has a dark overtone. But, as with all music, we hear and attribute to the lyrics what we so choose to make it appeal to our own individual lives :) The complete (though a little off in some places) lyrics are here: www.animelyrics.com/anime/paranoiaagent/yumenoshimash.htm
I have to disagree completely. Not sarcastic in the slightest. "Don't worry about the tsunami." You can't change it. You can worry your ass off and it will accomplish absolutely nothing. All you'll do is make yourself miserable. Take the roar of the sea into your heart; submerge your depression Stretch a bridge to tomorrow; never worry about any tsunamis Listen to the beauty of the sea. Get rid of your depression. Keep moving on, and leave the things that will be to be. That's always the interpretation I've had. Don't throw your life away worrying about things that are out of your control. Listen to the wind blowing in the grass; discard your depression Believe that tomorrow will be sunny too; never worry about dreams
***** It's not about ignorance. It's about knowing exactly what your limitations are. What you can actually change. There's a fault line under the Mississippi River. When it decides to go it could destroy most everything from New Orleans to Chicago. Why worry? What would it change? Be aware, but worrying is useless.
the thing i love about this song is that it doesn't follow the formula of a traditional anime opening. You know how there's always a buildup for the first few seconds, then they show the title card, then it slows down a bit more and then kicks back up when it gets to the chorus... If you've heard many openings, I hope you'll know what I'm talking about. This one doesn't follow that, it just goes all out.
Song has a powerful ability to make my eyes water up.... The song with the music video evokes feelings of real beauty... and optimism despite extreme feelings of sadness/despair. Its the type of song that rips open your heart so you can feel the sincere rawness of reality. Its genius how it relates to the series... the creators were so incredibly thoughtful about their decisions.
a bloom in the sky, on an afternoon of small birds eating feed on the sidewalk: Touching our hands to a lawn dappled with light, let's you and I talk Look, over a lunch bench, my dream will bloom Take the roar of the sea into your heart; submerge your depression Stretch a bridge to tomorrow; never worry about any tsunamis Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra such a magnificent jet stream Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra on an afternoon of people going as popularity dictates Hohoemi de shibashi te wo toreba kimi to arukou Hora "banji ni kyuusu" no koe mo kaze ga kakikesu When I smile for a moment and take your hand, let's you and I take a walk Listen, the wind erases even the voice that says, "There's nothing more that can be done" Without caring about tomorrow, leave the future to me Lock up your heart; never believe in any avalanches Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra yume ni minareta honoo no ame Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra ofisu no madobe de mezameta gogo ha Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra a rain of flames I'm used to seeing in my dreams Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra on an afternoon where I awaken by an office window Enticed by a lawn dappled with light, let's you and I head out Look, over a lunch bench, my dream will bloom Listen to the wind blowing in the grass; discard your depression Believe that tomorrow will be sunny too; never worry about having any dreams Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra a magnificent mushroom cloud in the sky Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra an afternoon of small birds eating feed on a path Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra a dream reared on a lunch bench Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra oh, an afternoon born on a day dappled with light
Zebra is great, "Adore Me I'm TV" too, but my fave is a remix of Kenja no Propeller, I can't remember the exact reference though, but it's a faster mix, kinda techno/dream sounding, awesome piece (it's Hirasawa solo, not a P-Model track).
Could someone get the right translated lyrics for this? I've seen two different sets already, I wonder which one is correct. One is clearly softer than the other.
Oo... I figure the "laughing while everyone falls" comments are about the Paranoia Agent anime... I'd laugh too, if that had some sort of healing effect and made everyone cheerful again u_u
This song isn't anywhere near as good as most of his stuff. I hate how everybody only likes Susumu Hirasawa's music if it has to do with an anime. Go check out some P-Model stuff, and other solo stuff, like "Colors", "Cyborg", "Zebra" and "Sagyo".
Sim City, Day Scanner, Gemini, etc. There's a ton of stuff this genious of a man has composed, I'd recommend to those who like his songs to check out other things Hirasawa brought to this world.

❤❤ siempre estara en nuestros kokoros
Also this is why ED is like lullaby: Satoshi wanted viewers go sleep after watching the episode :3
Also they put bird sounds in!
what a true genius
the world of anime is worse off without him
I love this guy's music - particularly the Paranoia Agent opening, and the music for Paprika.
昼下がりの公園の木漏れ日に世界の流れを感じるような
とてつもなく穏やかで、恐ろしい曲だと思いました。

+thesilentcrow I'm pretty sure that this song is about nukes.

Love the song, and I love the anime...Satoshi Kon rest in peace ;)
He was really great, so sad he;s gone :(
When the world ends, I'll be laughing with delight with many many others as this song plays in the background.
Me too
Epic
Edgy and cringe
@trollking6315 1) this was back during 2012
2) I was drunk
3) it was a reference to the opening visuals
So the album version is even more unnerving. And by a large margin. This creeps under your skin.
これを聴くと勇気と涙が出る
love it, it's been a long time since I've heard this. his voice is so amazing.
After listening to this for the first time (last friday), i've already fell in love with his music!
"flaming rain that i used to see in my dreams"
a bloom in the sky, on an afternoon of small birds eating feed on the sidewalk:
Touching our hands to a lawn dappled with light, let's you and I talk
Look, over a lunch bench, my dream will bloom
Take the roar of the sea into your heart; submerge your depression
Stretch a bridge to tomorrow; never worry about any tsunamis
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra such a magnificent jet stream
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra on an afternoon of people going as popularity dictates
Hohoemi de shibashi te wo toreba kimi to arukou
Hora "banji ni kyuusu" no koe mo kaze ga kakikesu
When I smile for a moment and take your hand, let's you and I take a walk
Listen, the wind erases even the voice that says, "There's nothing more that can be done"
Without caring about tomorrow, leave the future to me
Lock up your heart; never believe in any avalanches
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra yume ni minareta honoo no ame
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra ofisu no madobe de mezameta gogo ha
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra a rain of flames I'm used to seeing in my dreams
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra on an afternoon where I awaken by an office window
Enticed by a lawn dappled with light, let's you and I head out
Look, over a lunch bench, my dream will bloom
Listen to the wind blowing in the grass; discard your depression
Believe that tomorrow will be sunny too; never worry about having any dreams
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra a magnificent mushroom cloud in the sky
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra an afternoon of small birds eating feed on a path
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra a dream reared on a lunch bench
Raaiiyaa ra ra i yo ra oh, an afternoon born on a day dappled with light
中毒になってしまった
Yeah he did and almost every movie Kon made.
One of the best shows ever, transcending all genres and mediums, becoming a true work of art, horror, drama, romance, and dreamlike surrealism.
現代に蘇ったZEBRAって感じがしてなんか芸術的……
yes his music is really special

i totally agree man what u said expresses this song
Truth in that! The rest is awe inspiring!

星新一の『午後の恐竜』を思い出した。この歌の世界観の方がより虚無的だが......。

This opening ended up being only good thing in the show.
It's not. The whole show is golden. The first few episodes are a lesson on how to do horror.
this song makes my loins tender
