This Rayden was a completely different character if you look at his ending in the OG Mortal Kombat. There, he scoffed at his competitors and the two bosses and invited other gods to participate in the contest, eventually destroying the realm - but in the games after, he cares about Earthrealm and the heroes of the series. And when Earthrealm is threatened by Onaga or Shinnok, he becomes Dark (some would say "emo") Rayden. Character development must have been necessary since that first game was just some standalone project and they didn't anticipate that it would become a long-running series.
It's actually because of a copyright violation (or something similar) filed against MK. There was a well-known classic arcade shooter called "Raiden." To my knowledge it was first spelled "Rayden" in the home ports of Mortal Kombat 2 as a result.

I dont think the difficulty affects which Endurance matches you see. Its strange that you can see that endurance match since its also a Lost Treasure bonus fight. Choosing the difficulty itself doesn't change much from my experience. It just seems to change how soon the A.I becomes "Hard".
@@gmtatum After beating Shao Kahn your taken to a screen where you can choose one of the Lost Treasures. There you can see things like your characters ending,Fatality/Brutality/Animality/Friendship demonstrations or special fights against a specific opponent at the highest difficulty. On the PS1 version(and possibly on the Saturn) one of the treasures is called "Battle with Shokan Champions" in which you do the Endurance fight against Goro and Kintaro.
@@xemnas500 Okay, thanks I understand that. I spent many a night in the early 2000's trying to see those on MK Ultimate on N64. My favorite was the Fatality Compilation.
The Saturn version's loading is actually just as bad as PS1's, worse on endurance matches because the game loads for a small bit when the next opponent comes in after defeating one

@@djb1ge MK2 production could have potentially made the animation for a "run" but couldn't implement due to space
