  • In this video we're trying out some more from Madness. We are always pleased to be checking out more from this delightful band. We fell in love with their strange ways ever since our first Madness video. We can't wait to hear this one. Enjoy!

In the music video, instead of ending on the heart attack, the main character gets up and cheerily sings along with another repeat of the chorus.

Madness was so much fun live. Thanks for diving deeper on them. It looks like they had to lip sync, so they just had fun and didn't even try to look like they were singing into the mic. Much better than pretending.

    Such a good tune… ☺️
Let’s do something else from the 80s…
‘It Bites - Calling All The Heroes’
… probably one of the most energetic songs of the time… 💯
Thanks for reading… Cheers, Jason (Bond.)

Their videos were a lot of fun to watch, and the video for ''Cardiac Arrest'' was no exception. We used to jump around when a Madness video came on either Countdown or Sounds. It was pretty exciting when they came to Australia in 1982 and having them be guests on Countdown. Not fun seeing Countdown kids groping them while they attempted to perform ''House Of Fun''. Somebody should have told them that it was a bad idea to wear shorts in front of us. The distance between audience and band in this video is a good idea.

Kia ora hello guys. hay when Strummer was a toddler and worked out how to use the dvd player he was either playing Thomas the tank engine The Clash rude boy movie (i think because he kept hearing his name) and MADNESS live he loved that dvd until it was unplayable. Moana my ex wife used to sit the computer speakers on her tummy and play ska reggae and punkrock to all three of our boys throughout her whole pregnancy and they came out loving music

Oh, that's unusual, they're miming to the album version. If this was to promote the single, I'd expect them to be miming to the single version, I wonder why they did this, then?

The official video for this is well worth a watch, it's perfect for the song. This song broke the streak of top ten songs thanks to the BBC banning it after a week.

    • @140cabins

BBC didn't actually ban it because they performed it on Top of The Pops but Radio 1 didn't put it on their airplay list although a few DJs (who were fans of he band) still played it. Everyone had bought the LP with it on which perhaps didn't help sales.

This song is from the period in which the band decided to move beyond their ska roots and into more traditional pop music. As time went on, they would mature both musically and lyrically whilst always creating interesting and entertaining material.

No getting away with the fact that Madness had a number of catchy hits during their career and indeed were popular at home and abroad , I couldn’t stand them however , they were far too much like “ professional cockneys “ and fair play to Suggs for having the career he’s had with his awful singing voice and clunky movements on stage . I’m much more convinced of him nowadays as a presenter on tv rather than a frontman .

Professional cockneys? Let me tell you something. Singing in his own accent is the most honest thing you can do and did not do them any favours because most people don’t like that. If ever there was a band who were not contrived its Madness. Their Self-deprecation and absence of bravado is why they never made it in the US.
