The BA Boeing 767-300 such as the one at 01:55 must have been brand-spanking new when this video was made. I flew on one of them MAN-JFK the same year. No seatback tvs on those babies, but the video was far better than what was previously available on the L-1011s flying that route. Ah yes those were the days! I flew a Virgin Atlantic B742 in 1996 LHR-JFK, my first flight with seatback IFE. As I recall, four channels all on a loop. On-demand was another decade or so away. Amazing.
I remember when I was a kid, FAA noise laws were not so strict like they are today ( 2015 ), These 747-200/300s, DC-10s etc would take off/climb so soo low! You could literally hear them coming 10-15 seconds before it flew over...I really miss that...This takeoff brought me smiles to hear those legendary older engines roaring! :) Thank you soo much for this video :) Added to favorites

In regular economy i dont think they did. It was only what was then called Economy Select later to become World Traveler Plus. Of course Club World and First class screen were much bigger.
Everything changed now..back then, in 1990, 747-400 is still a brand new plane for everyone and we could see a lot of 747 on the tarmac waiting for their next flight like we seen in this video. Today, many airlines begin retiring their 747 in favor of 777 and A380. I miss those days..the glory days of the 747..
1:00 possibly United's last SP, inherited from Pan Am. If so that is a fantastically rare piece of footage of probably the most impressive Boeing ever built - and one of the rarest.
I'm sure onboard IFE and seat comfory nowadays is far superior to back in the 90s, but I imagine inflight service was much better back then. As for aircraft noise and airline liveries, there's no contest. Classic 3 and 4 holers dominating long haul with loud and proud engines, much better for the spotters back then!

@@yolsclassics6347: Not those ordered by BOAC. BOAC ordered sixteen 747-136 in 1970/71 with P&W JT9D-7, and BA ordered ten 747-236 in 1974/5 with RB211-524. Subsequently, they acquired/leased other 747s from various airlines with different powerplants, but they were not owned by BA in 1993. (And BOAC never owned 747-200 series; that airline had merged with BEA and became British Airways in 1974 before the 747-236 were delivered).
these are Pratt and Whitneys. Also, what you are hearing doesn't even remotely come close to the sound of the classic RB211s. this is British Airways..oh how do I explain it...side airline. and their 742s had JT9Ds on them.

Engines don't sound like that anymore!!! I flew on a JAL 747 - 200 Narita to Sydney in 2001, no seat back TV on that one. Great video.

We had 8 channel PTV's in our club world seats from a very early time. Still only had the main screen in World Traveller though/

Their 747 100 had the P&Ws as the Rolls Royce wasn't yet offered on that plane.

i went to and from florida in 1992 on bdxg which was city of oxford and i live 5 miles from oxford so was quite appropriate.

That isnt a 747-200, that is a 747-136, they retired the last 136 in 1999 :-( miss these birds, great video!
All the BA 747s I flew on were -136 series -- G-AWNA, G-AWNL, G-AWNP (had the reg numbers in my BOAC Junior Jet Club log book). ;)

BA 747-200s were Rolls Royce powered and the 300 series also had an RR engine option. But I do agree this is a PW powered 100 series

These engines sound like JT9Ds, are you sure it is a -200? (because most of BA's 200s if not all had RB211s and the 100s had JT9Ds)
