Between Helsinki and Tallinn the ferries are more like buses, just a way to get across. In that sense Eckerö Line makes most sense, less fancy but also less costly. Ferries to Stockholm are a completely different breed. Because you actually spend the whole night on board, the amenities matter more.
Are you going to compare the ships on the Stockholm-Helsinki and Stockholm-Turku route? I would say they are much more spectacular and you see more of the archipelagos and sceneries around you! :)
@ i have worked and travelled on board several of the ships between Sweden and Finland! I would recommend you try Silja Symphony and Viking Cinderella on the Helsinki route. On the Turku route the Viking Glory and Baltic Princess are must tries! :)
What a great shout, the archipelagos between Finland and Stockholm are unbelievable. You will pass lots, a veritable myriad, of little islands and islets, many with pretty and colourful summer homes, and, I couldn't believe how close the ship gets as it weaves its way along the journey. Avert your eyes though, if the friendly locals are engaging in one of their favourite pastimes...skinny dipping! Another great video, Michael!
Finlandia one day tour with same day return ticket costs only 19e. That is why it is more crowdy. But very convenient. I like all ships connecting our region: Tallink, Viking line, Eckerö! Nice video!
Next time try these, though they are longer runs. HElsinki - Stockholm on Tallink/Silja as the both ferries are identical and though they are getting old, they are an experience beyond the shuttle ferries on Helsinki -Tallinn line. It take two nights for a cruise. My favortie is Silja Seranade as I previously worked on both ships. The other option is a 23 hour cruise and here I think that the competing Viking Line ships are the winners as they have two giants on the line. Make sure to take aevening departure in late May as the view through the archipelago of Stockholm is quite amazing! On the Turku line on a cruise, you will not be able to take a walk to expore as the ships stay just an hour at the each port before turning back to other port and in Turku the port is on the outskirts of the city and the the terminal for Tallink/Silja is located also in the outskirts. On Helsink cruises tou have more than 7 hours to explore the city before return, this is the same in Helsinki as in Stockholm. Cheers!
I also live in Tallinn and have taken all those ferries many many times - I agree Tallink ferries are the best (btw. Silja Line is also owned by Tallink), but Eckerö is not worse than Viking - they are about the same imho.
Finlandia has live music every day, which is not available on MyStar. It would be good if you compared the breakfast on both trips, not just one boat. On MyStar there is the possibility of doing shopping cruises, you go back and forth and have the car on board the entire trip. Finlandia is run by a Finnish company and MyStar by an Estonian one, therefore for example Finlandia has information in Swedish which MyStar does not have. Both have a lounge and cabins..
I really like the comment, that the ships are not like a bus or a train, because there are so many people who try to board the ferry at last minute, only to be told the boarding has ended. On Tallink Silja Line, the boarding ends 20 minutes before departure (Eckerö I have heard is 40 minutes, but I am not 100% sure). The 20 minutes is for the ferry to set out, although now the newer ships like MyStar are pretty quick at getting ready, so that's why the ship set out 15 minutes before. I would like to add, the price difference is to do many factors. First both companies have a dynamic pricing, meaning the price changes. Now Eckerö is a budget friendly option for travel, often being called the Ryan Air of ferries, while Tallink Silja is premium travel option. Eckerö has only 1 ship (plus a cargo ship), while Tallink Silja has 2 Shuttle ferries (the newer MyStar and a pit older Megastar) and currently the short cruise ferry Victoria I, giving Tallink Silja more flexibility (ship going every 3 hours). Plus Finlandia is built a pit different then the Stars, on busy days, its hard to find seating onboard her while on both Stars, there are 3 different class lounges for sitting, plus the amount of bars and restaurants. In the end, it all comes down to comfort or cost. A very great video showcasing both ferries.
Riding Tallink is an Estonian status thing. "Even if I'd lose all my money, I'd never board Eckerö Line"😂😂😂 And you're right about the age, MyStar is ~3 years old, Finlandia is more than 23 years old. Tallink had a similar ship to it, but they replaced it to offer quality service with the introduction of MyStar sister MegaStar. I do have to say, this has to be one of the best travel reports of our region in a while. I hope the upcoming vlogs are as good. (Yes. Estonians watch travel videos of their country and judge them😂)
I enjoy them all, but Viking Line is the best. Tallink has ruined the Silja Line -experience in the HKI-Sthlm -route. The ships are nice, but you can not success with ships alone.
You should try the third ship, namely the Viking Line. It has the best food of those three. And when You compare the service, maybe the best service too. No 1 for service is Viking Line, 2 is for Eckerö Line and somwhere far beoynd is Tallink. The Mega Star Ship and Shop are nr. 1, but service is the worst.
I have taken this trip hundreds of times, but how do you have a time to eat or shop when trip takes 1,5 hours to 3 hours? As you sit down you are almost there again! 😆

A few others have said do Helsinki to Stockholm..so I plan to in the near future.👍
Are you going to compare the ships on the Stockholm-Helsinki and Stockholm-Turku route?

Yes hope to in a future video. Have you done that route?

Thx will look to travel with them some time. Saw both ships when walking around Helsinki…

Thx, I have some, future Baltic plans.

Hi
Thanks for the message. A few others have mentioned Stockholm to Helsinki. So I have moved it up the filming list, maybe even to this year.
Michael
I always loved Eckero because their ship is easy to move around unlike Tallink ones where there is easy to get lost
I get that, but I did like Tallink…🤷♂️
Naantali - Kapellskär? Finnlines large ropax vessels are spectacular
Will have a look. Thx..

Hope to try Silja (Sweden - Finland) on the channel in the future…

My travel plans wouldn’t allow a direct time of day comparison. My Star was more my kind of ship, but I get others prefer Finlandia.🤷♂️
Have a good trip to Finland by ship! 🖐
Thx 👍

A very great video showcasing both ferries.
Thanks for the information, very helpful. Amount of seating on My Star was impressive..
Did you find booze in the shop of My Star? They have second floor where booze, sweets etc are.
Yes, there was plenty of it... 😲
Stockholm-Helsinki is a very nice trip that feels like a cruise but with a price of a ferry.
Thx, it is definitely on the list for the channel👍

Thx for the feedback. Helsinki, Tallinn and a full Baltic road trip are up coming. Narva, Riga and Tallinn are already on the channel.😉
You should try the third ship, namely the Viking Line. It has the best food of those three. And when You compare the service, maybe the best service too. Thx for the feedback. If I go back to Tallinn I will try Viking…👍
Nothing beats the Oslo-Kiel Colorline ferry
I will add it to the list for the channel👍
There are one more, Viking line!
Sadly my travel plans (and budget) meant I couldn’t do that too..
I live in Tallinn.
Eckerö is dreadful.
Viking is ok.
Tallink is very good!
I really liked Tallink👍
Tallink is overpriced. Most people just need a quiet place to rest and maybe a meal. Viking and Eckerö are more than 2x cheaper.
Edkerö is certainly cheaper, but I liked Tallink TBH🤷♂️
Где эстонцы берут рубли, для обмена на евро, на границе?
All euros both sides….
@@michaelhortin Estonians search and force you to change money; you can’t bring euros into Russia.
Rubles? This has nothing to do with Russia! 😂
I have taken this trip hundreds of times, but how do you have a time to eat or shop when trip takes 1,5 hours to 3 hours? As you sit down you are almost there again! 😆
Ha ha, the breakfast was needed. The shopping was not for me as the day after I had a Ryanair carry on case only flight. So no room for shopping…🤷♂️
