I really like this different take on the crawl. Not only is the Imperial March playing instead of the normal crawl theme but Imperials are depicted as the good guys while Rebels literally seen as the evil alliance trying to take down the Empire. While we saw the movies and know that the Emperor's intents are bad and Rebels just want to bring back the Republic for the good, if you actually think about it, most civillians would see the Empire as peace keepers and with Stormtroopers roaming around, protecting the civils, they would see the Rebels as evil traitors. I would really like to see more different takes on the crawl in a similar fashion. Especially again on the Imperial perspective.
I was so pumped at the end of TIE Fighter I actually thought they'd let me take on the Rebel fleet and shoot down the Millennium Falcon. It felt like some sort of incredible twist for the game to tell me that we only need to wait for news of the Emperor's success at Endor...
Another reason this game had a fantastic storyline was not only was the game focused on fighting the rebels, it was also about the empire fighting against the traitors of the empire, nobody talks about the fact that there was an actual divide within the empire
People cared about the graphics, trust me. The Gourad shading was revolutionary and made low poly models look better. It was a graphical leap after wing commander.
This brings back memories. I still have this game on my old Mac computer. It's at least 10 years old now. I just recently started playing it again. And even after all those years this game is still awesome!
fun fact: the (floppy)disk version had it's graphics and music more aligned as the CD-Version (i don't care if graphics are better but the music doesn't fit)
The Star Wars X-Wing and TIE-Fighter games need a complete HD remake... unfortunatly i doubt htat this will ever happen.. alas with the video game rights in the hands of EA Games...
Im suprised they havent since EA is known for releasing remastered games, people will actually give EA their money for the sake of nostalgia, and Tie Fighter is well over due

The last one would be Gamecube's Rogue Squadron (I just bought a cheap Gamecube solely to play that game) C) How awesome would a massive multiplayer Star Wars flight sim be?

They had a massive multiplayer flight sim, it was called Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed. It was a great flight sim, the best part of the game. The game got shut down last year.
You're right. The music in this video runs a lot faster than the visuals. The Imperial March theme at 3:12 should underscore the Tie Fighter title screen at 4:05.
A pity the sound is a bit distorted, the effects are on, but the music is about a minute ahead of what it should be, this its the visuals that are slowed.

I saw that video, and I agree with them. TIE Fighter deserves to be in the top 5, at least. Having it at number 2 is freaking incredible. Jedi Outcast is good too, so I'm glad it got recognition, but TIE Fighter is a truly solid game. The only thing I don't like about it is the punishing difficulty. I mean, I like games that challenge me, but seriously? I loled at all the people raging about KOTOR being third. KOTOR wasn't even that good; they should be happy.
Maybe this has already been said... But does anyone else notice how the big area Palpatine is talking in is sort of similar to the Senate chamber from the Prequels?

@Vyylandra Or maybe it was made in 1994, and this was the first time you ever actually saw coruscant. This was probably based on the coruscant of the zahn novels, which don't give a clear impression of what it looked like but seem to have visible landmasses, mountains and oceans. the planet wide city coruscant, based on the original concepts of alderaan/had abbadon didn't appear until the special editions in 97.
I am amazed that a modern day x-wing / tie-fighter game hasn't been released yet. These classics are awesome, but a new game could handle gigantic 3d objects and high res gameplay. They can keep the great plotline of tie-fighter though.
We need a new X-Wing game, for consoles and PC. Especially PS3! And with multiplayer and single player mode! It's just really, really needed. And bring back the Dark Forces series too!!! Nothing has really satisfied my classic OT Star Wars apetite for many years now!! Force Unleashed and Battlefront was good, but nothing was as enjoyable as the old games in the 90's.
can anyone get this working on Windows 7? I've heard some say Dosbox but I've tryed and sence i own the Collectors CD i heard that doesn't work with Dos. i've tryed a supposedly modified version but it didn't do a damn thing. i always get a error on the start up trying to install.
The music is not in sync with the video? the final coda when the words Tie Fighter appears can be heard at 3:14 but in the video this section is 4:05. Seems weird
Oh, is it ever good to be bad! Part of the charm of TIE Fighter, indeed, is combatting for the Empire. And, of course, the other sizable portion of the charm of TIE Fighter is the quality of the program, itself (especially from back generally when it was released in the mid-1990s).
'Darth Vader brought swift justice to the Rebels by destroying their main base on Hoth'. Er, no, it took him and all of Death Squadron THREE YEARS to destroy a major Rebel base. Proof the Empire was ineffecient!
I play on Normal; it's still balls hard. You only get one life per mission, and it's ridiculously easy to die, especially when fighting an Escort Shuttle (or several). The scenarios get pretty challenging too, especially the ones in later battles. Still, I've gotten past Battles 1-7, so it's not impossible. Plus the flight officer gives you hints. I'm not sure if it's as hard as those two games, but I find it a fine test of my gaming ability.
All these years later and I can still remember the speech word-for-word of Emperor Palpatine in the game intro lol.

The alternative to the Empire is the horrible, criminal, dangerous worlds the Rebels will allow in its place, no thank you.

It was my childhood... good old days! The days when nobody cares about the graphix, the atmosphere was above all. And this game is/was/will EPIC!
