- Here's my track for this month's Pixel Mixers VGM Cover Contest: Anime!
When I first heard the main theme for this game, I knew I had to do my own version. I tried to keep the piano faithful to the original but added my own touch with some instrumentation changes (low whistle and tin whistle among others because of course)
PS. If the part at 1:25 looks strange, it's because I had to cheat with Melodyne to play those few notes outside of the whistle's natural scale. But sshhh, Don't tell anyone!
Original music: Tomoki Miyoshi
This cover is so beautiful dude. It really made me think about the name “Digimon survive”. To a lot of people it’s a name to a srpg visual horror novel of a long running franchise, but to Digimon fans and even the creator of Digimon, to them after all the of years of comparisons and low sales between u.s. and Japan. Digimon survived.
Thanks! It's indeed a beautiful tune and I knew from the first listen that I'd have to cover it
Such a beautiful arrangement! Great performance on that low whistle and amazing VST work as always! Excellent job!
Thanks!
Brilliant and moving. Thank you.
Thanks! Glad you liked it
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen
Thanks! I knew from the second I first heard the tune that I need to record it. Sadly it's not exactly playable with a whistle without either half holing or playing some wrong notes and fixing it in post (which is what I did here)
I think the violin part in the middle would work with Bb whistle but I don't have a good one
@@TremendouzI know I was iffy on half-holes for a long time haha It's one of the downsides of a folk instrument. They're not so bad as a passing tone but when you have to land on one the pressure's on to make it sound right. I would love a wider whistle set too!
Masterpiece, loved your version!
Thanks!
I like the blend of piano and strings you picked, and you played the flute well! It sounds so nice with it's unique dynamics and blends with the other instruments well. Cool music video and costume too! Bravo!
Thanks!
Simply beautiful.
Thanks!
Such a beautiful piece, nice work. I love the timbre of that whistle.
Thanks!
Beatiful, Trem!
Thanks!
Powerful performance and cover. This is so memorable and inspiring to experience your musical art. Fantastic!
Thank you!
That whistle sounds smooooooooth, nice!!!!! 🎵
Thanks! It's almost too big to handle but I managed

Well done! Beautiful arrangement, and I'm always impressed at what you can manage with VSTs, but your whistle is the star here!
Thanks! I tried to make it the cherry on top instead of drowing too much in the ensemble. Glad it seemed to work
i don't know anything about digimon but these digimon doots are very lovely!
Thanks!
Low whistle sounds so nice, really great arrangement and cover.
Thanks!
Very lovely tones, didn't think Digimon would have music like this :o
Thanks! It's probably not the usual digimon game haha
I do hope to see you play live with drone shots of some forest or mountain. You rekindle my motivation each time!
That would be cool but not happening with my budget haha. Glad you liked it!
Hi Tremendouz - What a wonderful cover of the Digimon Survive theme. I just love your beautiful ethnic flute performance and your instrumentation and emotional expression were superb. I subscribed to your channel. Marc Filmer (piano composer)
Thanks a lot!
Beautiful cover! The low whistle, piano, and strings work really well together. (Also, having just finished Xenoblade 3, I'm especially susceptible to emotional whistle/flute parts right now hahaha)
Thanks! Emotional flute for the win
😍 So nice, Trem! Need to find a piece you can use more of you whistles simultaneously on somehow, key issues aside :V I bet you could create a magical whistle choir sound!
Thanks! I guess I could at least do simple harmonies
That's a big stick
And it sounds great 🥰
Thanks! I love my big stick
@@Tremendouz blur it next time, you're indecent
@@Harpsibored I won't be censored!
I thought you would put out another of your anime rock arrangements. Instead you made us cry.
It's good to cry from time to time
This sounds so good! That piano is a VST? ...Should I be adding simulated pedal sounds to my covers? 🤔
Thanks! It's called Signature Grand from Simple Sam Samples. Requires full version of Kontakt though, but there are plenty that don't.
God I’ve love to actually perform the piano for you and make this fully live lol
Haha, still would need live strings
@@Tremendouz true
@@Tremendouz also do you have a discord account so I could maybe contact you?
@@snesmocha I do. I most often hang out on the Pixel Mixers Discord server (you can find a link there on the Pixel Mixers website)
Absolutely beautiful, I'm so glad that I found this on the Digimon Subreddit
Thanks! It's a Goldfinch low C which I ordered from Poland, however I probably wouldn't recommend a low C as your first low whistle since it's quite big. Low D would be the usual but even that has quite large finger stretch for the unitiated. A lot of people seem to like an "in between size" like an alto G or low F which is much more manageable even for smaller hands.
Note that Goldfinch also make whistles in keys that are not mentioned on their website, for example the alto G
@@Tremendouz Thank you very much for telling me which Low whistle you used, and also about the finger strech.
I have looked around and found the Carbony brand which has the option to have the holes closer together, but since I have small hands it's still a bit tricky to cover them properly, so I can only imagine how difficult it is with a standard version one XD
You make it seem so easy :D ( but that does show your skill )
So thank you very much.
Also do you perhaps have a music sheet for the Survive ost that I can practice in, I'd love to learn to play it for myself : )
@@hibotancreations Did you get to actually try the Carbony already? If you look at this video ( ua-cam.com/video/TPO9vT2LtmQ/v-deo.html ) I'm playing the low C Carbony with the close finger spacing and you can see that the holes are quite small and close together. The low D with close finger spacing would be even easier than the low C especially if you still use the piper's grip.
I don't have sheet music but I could give you a MIDI file of my piano transcription here. For the low whistle melody, mind you that at 1:25 I used Melodyne to pitch shift a few notes that are normally not playable without half covering the holes of the whistle which isn't easy to do fast. Otherwise the melody is perfectly playable with a C whistle except the violin part would work with a Bb whistle (I have one but decided the violin was better).
Nice and clean performance :) Is that a Shearwater whistle?
Thanks! It's Goldfinch from Poland
@@Tremendouz Oh yes indeed, I had forgotten that maker.
Suddenly it sounds Celtic
Well done ! That sounded very nice 👌
Dont suppose you have the tabs or notes for the whistle at all?
Thanks! I don't have whistle tabs I'm afraid and actually playing the part just before the violin would require some quite tricky half holing so I cheated and pitch shifted those couple of notes with Melodyne.
@@TremendouzThanks for the reply and it's all good.
Once again great job !
Flute name please 😢
Goldfinch low C whistle from Poland!
