    This one was a nightmare. Cant imagine getting lost in such a wasteland and slowly succumbing not just freezing to death.

    In the diaries they are also very nonchalant about the polar bears and are obviously not aware just how dangerous they actually are.

    This story has always been fascinating to me, it's a weird combination of old-timey-goofiness and innocence and genuine tragedy.

    This video is the best because it explains the origins of the story in detail. Also it shows their starting location and final location. Thank you

    Andree was the Norwegian Stockton Rush!

      😂 If Only! He was Swedish!! (you think a Norwegian explorer would make all those blunders ?!?) 😉
      Otherwise I see your point.

    Pinnso coming through with the details, the research and the narrative for another interesting yet not well known topic. Great video as always, can't wait for the next one.

    What a fascinating story, but truly this serves as a valuable lesson on the dangers of pride and the myopic search for prestige over all else.

    I can't believe that this guy was able to convince a whole group of intellectuals to go on such a dumpster fire of an expedition. He was literally a grifter who believed his own b.s.

      Reminds me of Stockton Rush and the Titan submersible. If theres enough money behind something its like all common sense goes away

    Very glad i found this channel, great video 👏 i think Andree and Stockton Rush from the titan submersible have a lot in common, the arrogance and narcissism is similar. Andree got in over his head and was being paid a lot of money from a lot of powerful people and it went to his head and he thought he was invincible just like Stockton. Such an interesting story though, great job 👍

    Excellent research and presentation, as always! I live in Philadelphia and I work on Parkside Avenue, in the section of the city that's called Parkside. Across the street from my office is the fairgrounds where the Centennial was held. A lot of the statues and buildings from 1876 are still there! I never knew of the Philadelphia connection to this story, and I can't wait to bust it out at a bar or a party!

    How much further advanced we were in those days, of somewhat recent history too. In comparison to society and just the idea of exploring has almost been stopped. Antarctica is off pretty much. These men are awesome.

    I don't want to go there in a car, in the garage of a house, floating on a huge ship. Let alone a hot air balloon.

    well a estimation shows that if you build it from fishing lines but the size of an skycraper it, is about as air tight as a modern ballon.

    • @ulyssesk7325
      @ulyssesk7325 Рік тому

      if you build it from carpets even twice as tight. about....

    yeah thats the inversed square law but not nessercary more air tight.

    • @ulyssesk7325
      @ulyssesk7325 Рік тому

      more air tight as object but not more air tight per meter squared

    • @ulyssesk7325
      @ulyssesk7325 Рік тому

      if you think exactly about if if you get san 5 km baloon you might can make it from ribbons "air tight"

  • @ulyssesk7325
    @ulyssesk7325 Рік тому

    im to lazy but its about 33% if you double the size the ballone gets more air tight abotu 33%

    it also shows that a time animalie cause of the massive size of the planet can be maintained by a web hardly ever visible to an human eye.
