Ancient Greece History lesson for kids part 1 is about the rise of the Greek Civilization in the ancient world. We start with a brief history of the Minoan Civilization, the Mycenaean invasion and the Greek Dark Age that followed. We discuss the Greek Archaic period including the Origins of Democracy in other government forms in Athens and Sparta. Athens is the birthplace of democracy and home to leaders like Draco, Solon and Cleisthenes the fathers of democracy. We define a polis and discuss the agora and political life in Athens. Daily life in Athens and Sparta is compared. You will learn about Greek government, culture, art and poetry. Homer the Greek poet and his works the Iliad and the Odyssey are summarized. We tell the story of the Iliad including brief biographies of Paris the prince of Troy, Helen of Troy; "the face that launched one thousand ships", Menelaus, Odysseus, and Achilles. The Trojan war is featured with an explanation of the Trojan Horse trick that won the war.
