This talk is one of the most essential and wise talks on sensual desires, especially for beginners. Every time I visit this talk, it makes me remind some basic principles again.
We don't own our actions. We don't even control our own thoughts which influence our actions. We also don't control our wants or desires that fuel our actions. On top of that, if Buddhism is correct, there's no self to even take those actions. So you can say there are choices on a mundane human level, but in reality, it appears there is no free will. This makes sense because nothing else in life has free will. Everything is dependent on everything else and everything is influenced by everything else.
"Rockstar" status is unnecessary for Buddhist monastics and problematic when conferred. Ajahn Brahmali is a very fine and learned monk. And that's enough reason for us to pay attention and listen to his talks carefully.
I m not glue to any religion (born in a catholic family, SouthAmerica) but love the ideas and speeches..thanks very much!!!!!! Even though no 100% agree..but that is the beautiful of sharing ideas and thoughts..you rock !!! Very respectful way!
@@SisypheanRoller thanks a lot for asking Mr. Ajahn but to be honest I don't remember what (it has been long time) Nevertheless I really appreciate your approaching.

Can someone please name the suttas mentioned in this talk: Simile of the grass torch, simile of the mango tree, simile of the dog, and simile of the poor man borrowing from the rich man
So if you're being violated in this life or killed or hurt, and that makes you unhappy, then you are going to pay for that in your next life ? For the unhappiness ? And rich people who are happy and accumulate things and experiences, they are gonna be rewarded for that in the next life?
How do you have perpetual contentment without stagnation? A still body of water can become polluted, but when the water is flowing and going somewhere, it cleans up. Contentment for a period of time seems healthy, but wouldn't a permanent contentment be static? Even your blood has to keep moving 😀
Phoenix Chastaine according to my limited knowledge one feels stagnated because that person feels bored with the current condition and want something more or different. So maybe that person is not really content. Long term contentment comes when you understand dependent origination. If you want to know more about that please visit suttacentral.net where monks and lay people will try to help you with your questions on the q&a and discussion pages of the site.

This was exactly what I needed to hear ❤️ I have been very attached to the sensual world recently which has caused a lot of worries and suffering
Seeing that is the first step to liberation. Good luck 🙏
Two things to remember:
1. The only thing we own are our actions
2. The only thing we have to do is die. Everything else is a choice
So, tie a noose to the rafters then?

Ajahn Brahmali is a rockstar of dhamma! That level of discernment can only come from total immersion into the eighthfold path.

@@stanbimi Problematic? 😂😅 Get off that word policing, purity test bs!
He is great, let’s not get too dogmatic and fundamentalist here over positive speech. Leave that for other religions 🙏
He explained these concepts so well.
