I plan moving to the area next year a d will need a rental home until I finish college. Do you have rental homes? If not where would you suggest I reach out? Thank you. @@katrininsarasota
My husband and I have lived in Sarasota for 20 years…It’s highly unusual for it to dip 35-40 degrees in the Winter. The average temperature is the low of 58-69 degrees. 😊
My thoughts on home insurance are slightly different. First, insurance runs around $8,000 to $10,000 per year, for an average home. In addition, the insurance company's rider out almost anything to do with flood damage or hurricane damage. Then the deductibles run around 2% or more, which means a $500,000 house will have a $10,000 deductible (at least). Most likely, a major claim would result in your paying around $18,000 to $20,000 (taking into account your premium) before receiving any payment from your insurance. To make matters worse, you may find out that your insurance prorates the value of your property that is destroyed. Finally, you may find that your insurance company has become insolvent, leaving you to take up your case with FEMA (Good luck!). As far as a home being totally destroyed, such as the $550,000 home in your example, the building is only part of the property value, not the entire value. Still, self-insuring it's a risk many may not want to take. I like your list of pros and cons. Here's a con that's one of my pet peeves: After paying rather stiff property taxes, you still have to pay to park downtown. I'm not a tax expert, but don't property taxes address our roads and public areas? Aren't we paying twice to park?
Number 1 downfall is the traffic it is horrific, if you want to spend time in traffic move there. The beaches are ruined by traffic and places to park. Roads have remained the same and no infrastructure was thought of before all the people came to live here. Houses are way over priced and not worth it. Prices of rentals are crazy high you have to make 200 thousand a year to live here.

That hurricane was impossible to exist. Somethings up.
When nations argue about politics, bad things happen to the economies. We should say about school quality, family, kids, better lifestyle and living quality

You completely left out the ever growing historical Rosemary District. Hardly discussed Downtown and didn’t touch at all the new Bay Area.
I’ve lived in Sarasota more than 40 years and I loved it until it was named #1 retirement place and it is destroyed now. Commissioners must be making huge money because there is literally nothing quaint or beautiful looking at building building on top of one another. We fight traffic high rent for nothing . Dead animals on streets ever day. One day y Raccoons in a roll hit by car!
Downfalls from a nyer who's been a Sarasota county resident for two years now. Rents are just as high. Food sucks and is more expensive. Wages are lower for trades. Houses that are a million dollars are pretty much 250k homes. The general contractors down here commit more fraud and have zero work ethic or pride in their work. People are slow and in their own world. Snowbirds and elderly people will crash their cars into you. The beach is gorgeous and the views are gorgeous.
And restaurants close at like 8:30. You're stuck eating at Wawa if you like to eat later, unlike NY. And, yes, the food sucks....don't know why but there's no taste to it. Forget good pizza. The work ethic is also lazy. I stopped hiring private handy-men (you can't count on them) and go with licensed companies even if they're more expensive.
Florida living? No thanks. 6 months out of the year it's unbearable. The idea of being forced to stay indoors or at the beach, with my nuts stuck to my leg is not my idea of fun
Very nice presentation and informative. You come across sincere and trustworthy!
I love Sarasota. I’ve been living here for about 18 years and still love it.
I love it too :)

SWFL has had some rough weather lately but it sounds like your neighborhood was spared from the awful flooding. I hope you stay safe this year!
Thank you so much, Cindy!
Have you moved to florida yet?

Inventory keeps piling up. There are a lot of options for buyers.

Politics issue is the same everywhere. But it's a red state and mostly red city, so liberals may want to choose Seattle
