In truth. This is what the results of the tension between the public and police in the last decade. Nobody wants to be a cop anymore, why the hell would you? Lots of great cops quit or retired bc of what’s going on in the country, plus defunding the police takes away the money to put towards training, lowering the bar even further. @@mynameisearl7537 That is not the standard in Illinois. The standard is “reasonable fear of death or great bodily harm”, and yes a pot of boiling water would reasonably be believed to cause great bodily harm - blindness, significant permanent scarring, etc. The law is on the cop’s side.

Ms. Massey may have been living with a mental health issue, but she deserved no less than every other person does. She deserved respect, compassion, empathy and understanding. Officers of the law are sworn to serve and protect. Whenever possible, law enforcement that are confronted with a person who may be experiencing a mental health crisis should call on medical personnel. I saw that video and it reminded me of that video where the guy was on his knees, being given contradictory orders and begging for his life before the officer involved gunned him down. This woman posed absolutely no threat. All she did was pick up the pot because he told her to take care of it. He "didn't want a fire". She walked to the sink and said "I rebuke you". His reaction was absolutely beyond what was necessary. He took a situation that was a "1" and reacted as if it was a "10". And it ended with him shooting her in the face for absolutely no good reason. For what? Even if she was going to throw that pot of water at him (she wasn't), he had like 20 feet and a counter between him and her. He could've backed away. Instead he (clearly) wanted to intimidate and dominate her. She was scared. She apologized, she got on the ground. He kept escalating. When he got close (while pointing a gun at her) she swung the pot and he shot her. Absolutely unnecessary, appalling and horrifying. She CALLED THEM for help and what she got was a bullet in her brain. Thankfully, his partner had his badge cam on the entire time. You can tell by his reaction that he was shocked. "What did you just do?!" is a pretty accurate description. He was arrested on the scene and it was absolutely deserved. A person like that should never have been entrusted with enforcing the law and the community's safety to begin with. Absolutely reprehensible and tragic.

The cop was initially too far for any water to reach him. So what did he do? Like a true scholar, he moved in closer to the lady and increased the “danger” to himself. From the beginning of the interaction, it was clear that the cop was pissed that the lady saw him as a Good Samaritan. He wanted her to fear and submit to him. Asked for ID and overstayed his welcome. Likely planned out the execution beforehand by asking her to get the pot.

I love sheriff Grady,hes a rockstar! Im a nurse and spent alot working in corrections. In Oklahoma the sheriff of Tulsa County staffs and is who is over the jail. I have never in my life worked with so many assholes. They had very little empathy or compassion for anyone in that building. They made any good nurses life hell. I dont know how many times I had to repeat the fact that I was not security there; I took the hyppocratic oath to provide care for offenders and DO NO HARM! One big thing I did was to keep my word,show no favoritism. I didnt want to know their charges. That was one place I felt like I made a difference!
A pot of boiling water thrown from 8-10 feet, is not a risk of grievous bodily harm. If you shot your wife for throwing boiling water, you would be in prison.

An actual corrections, court and police officer here. I’ve always said any one that wants to be a police officer should have to work corrections first. The only things CO’s have are pepper spray, their hands to fight with and ability to DEFUSE situations. Because of my CO training I know that woman had mental issues so now I have to deal with her differently than the ordinary citizen. If she’s threatening me with hot water I CREATE SPACE while giving commands to drop the water. By creating space if she throws the water it won’t hit me then after the water hits the floor I can rush in and handcuff her. Pretty simple. Water doesn’t magically travel 15 to 20 feet in the air, just back up if you’re interested in preserving life. Now if she’s suddenly charging them violently with scolding hot water then I believe force can be used but nowhere in that video did it ever come down to that. Me and my law enforcement colleagues discussed this yesterday at work and not one of us defended the officer. Problem is anyone can get a gun and a badge who shouldn’t have one! Working corrections first teaches how to be an officer in the field instead of giving ego driven,cowards who shoot first think second a gun. Also why is the host talking about steroid usage when you can be in great shape without it. Can’t believe he’s making excuses for him

His commander knew this history and claimed to have extensively trained him. You can train anything if the person is suitable. You can't if they are unsuitable. This was a failure of command (for sending this risk into the field) and his boss should admit as much and resign.

Then she peaks up to grab the pot off the counter gets shot and spills it. I would say she was following orders thinking cops wanted pot on the floor and not on the counter top. I also believe both cops should be charged with murder.
The officer escalated the issue by suggesting she’s going to harm him by saying “I rebuke you.” He said “you better not….”which is the beginning of things getting tense. But it was all manufactured by him and he followed through on his threat. Even if she was (she wasn’t) going to throw the pot, he could have easily retracted to a safe distance.

In truth. This is what the results of the tension between the public and police in the last decade. Nobody wants to be a cop anymore, why the hell would you? Lots of great cops quit or retired bc of what’s going on in the country, plus defunding the police takes away the money to put towards training, lowering the bar even further. I used this motto 20 years ago when I was employed with catholic charities angels flight youth shelter and then salvation army. This kepted me in check. I had to remind staff of this. I saw that video and it reminded me of that video where the guy was on his knees, being given contradictory orders and begging for his life before the officer involved gunned him down.
This woman posed absolutely no threat. All she did was pick up the pot because he told her to take care of it.
He "didn't want a fire". She walked to the sink and said "I rebuke you".
His reaction was absolutely beyond what was necessary. He took a situation that was a "1" and reacted as if it was a "10".
And it ended with him shooting her in the face for absolutely no good reason. For what? Even if she was going to throw that pot of water at him (she wasn't), he had like 20 feet and a counter between him and her.
He could've backed away. Instead he (clearly) wanted to intimidate and dominate her.
She was scared. She apologized, she got on the ground. He kept escalating.
When he got close (while pointing a gun at her) she swung the pot and he shot her.
Absolutely unnecessary, appalling and horrifying.
She CALLED THEM for help and what she got was a bullet in her brain.
Thankfully, his partner had his badge cam on the entire time. You can tell by his reaction that he was shocked.

The cop was initially too far for any water to reach him. So what did he do? Like a true scholar, he moved in closer to the lady and increased the “danger” to himself. From the beginning of the interaction, it was clear that the cop was pissed that the lady saw him as a Good Samaritan. He wanted her to fear and submit to him. Asked for ID and overstayed his welcome. Likely planned out the execution beforehand by asking her to get the pot.

I love sheriff Grady,hes a rockstar! Im a nurse and spent alot working in corrections. In Oklahoma the sheriff of Tulsa County staffs and is who is over the jail. I have never in my life worked with so many assholes. They had very little empathy or compassion for anyone in that building. They made any good nurses life hell. I dont know how many times I had to repeat the fact that I was not security there; I took the hyppocratic oath to provide care for offenders and DO NO HARM! An actual corrections, court and police officer here. I’ve always said any one that wants to be a police officer should have to work corrections first. The only things CO’s have are pepper spray, their hands to fight with and ability to DEFUSE situations. Because of my CO training I know that woman had mental issues so now I have to deal with her differently than the ordinary citizen. If she’s threatening me with hot water I CREATE SPACE while giving commands to drop the water. By creating space if she throws the water it won’t hit me then after the water hits the floor I can rush in and handcuff her. Pretty simple. Water doesn’t magically travel 15 to 20 feet in the air, just back up if you’re interested in preserving life. Now if she’s suddenly charging them violently with scolding hot water then I believe force can be used but nowhere in that video did it ever come down to that. Me and my law enforcement colleagues discussed this yesterday at work and not one of us defended the officer. Problem is anyone can get a gun and a badge who shouldn’t have one! Working corrections first teaches how to be an officer in the field instead of giving ego driven,cowards who shoot first think second a gun. Also why is the host talking about steroid usage when you can be in great shape without it. Can’t believe he’s making excuses for him

2)This "cop" has a history that made him unsuitable where a badge and carry a gun. His commander knew this history and claimed to have extensively trained him. When he said something offensive to her, implying that she was going to throw the water, she said I rebuke you in the name of Jesus. So she was basically saying I’m not going to allow that thought, those words have authority over this situation. The demon was too strong and she was like Peter, became fearful. Stop getting this wrong! She put the pot down on the counter. And then she said I rebuke you in the name of Jesus twice. The cop then threatens to shoot her. The cops pull theIr guns out and aim at her. She then raised her hands and ducked down without the pot of water. The cops yell at her multiple times to put pot down that she did not have. Then she peaks up to grab the pot off the counter gets shot and spills it.
I would say she was following orders thinking cops wanted pot on the floor and not on the counter top.
I also believe both cops should be charged with murder.
If Ms. Massey called the police because she thought she saw or heard a prowler, why are the officers asking her for ID? That makes no sense to me.
And they should have never been in her house.

The officer escalated the issue by suggesting she’s going to harm him by saying “I rebuke you.” He said “you better not….”which is the beginning of things getting tense. But it was all manufactured by him and he followed through on his threat. Even if she was (she wasn’t) going to throw the pot, he could have easily retracted to a safe distance.

This is an important interview. That officer is who I hope is at the top of every Police force around the country. PBD I will say some officers take advantage of the badge. It's similar to a politician. They believe the badge protects them from the law. However there's also something that happens to an officer over time. Imagine dealing with people l, every day,l, that lie or are just plain oblivious to their own actions. I've seen good men change over years as an officer. It changes most people. The difference is, the good officers understand it and deal with it
