How to make a great free flight glider with Balsa wood
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- This is a very fun and easy project to make for you or for a child, either way it requires a bit of skill to build it and make it fly. You will only need basic tools like a hobby knife, wood glue and the main material is balsa wood, as stated in the tittle of this video.
The Simmer’s Glider won for me the Class B senior indoor glider record in March 1937. which has had the good fortune to remain unbroken for two years. The first model of this design made a 57-second flight. Designed by Wallace Simmers.

Joyplanes- Enjoying flight and enjoying life! Well done! 👍😀
Yes! Thank you!
Always great fun.
Thanks, man! I had to watch this video for a school project but it was really interesting so I watched all your vids! they're awesome! Keep it up!
Thank you!
@@Joyplanes Cheers
are all lengths in the pdf in mm like the wing is it 170 mm or Iam wrong
nice work next time make a lift to real mars
alon musk will pay u 100 tusla
I'm from Indonesia I have a lot of balsa wood
Can I use only 3mm balsa sheet and sand it to make it thin for other parts🤔
Yes, make sure its sanded symmetrically and it should work.
Thanks, new subscriber from Atlanta, GA. I need to purchase an imperial ruler. :)
Very nice
Thanks
I really liked this video thanks you.
What do you use for weights clay ?
I have a question.can I use 2mm balsa and then sand down the stabilizers so they have an airfoil too???
Yes, but stabilizer don't need to generate lift, a simetric airfoil is recommend.
@@Joyplanes okay thanks
Quick question: Doesn’t the application warp the wood?
No.
Which app you used to make wings design in pc
Exelent
How thickness of the woods
Hi brother, I am Mazen from Iraq. Can you send me the measurements of this plane or a map?
Go to outerzone.co.uk Enter world's record glider in the 'Search plans' box.
too much glue on the wings
I disagree, the more glue the less likely the plane will shatter into pieces
Great tutorial,
I appreciate and love your way of explaining and your patience for making the glider smooth.
I all ways enjoy your videos I watch all of them Thank you very much keep up the good work.
Great video. The trimming of the wings can always be improved, but still good nonetheless 👍
6:23 this nose is over-long: its length Should be Reduced by about 45 percent.
if we assume that the cg was correctly located, then the video of the flights indicates that model never had a correct amount of nose-up trim, at the horiz-stab.
6:17 !!!!!!! the grain in the vert-stab should be VERTICAL. !!!!!!!!!
love how simple and easy the design is. It flies so well.🕊🐦🐦🐦
Hitting a massive like for that amazing airfoil design!
Hi faud i like your channel and that foam board glider
Link aeroplane pliss
Can we get the design plans?
plan shows negative attack angle of the wing
Wow another beautiful plane and a great video!
I'm really curious how big can you realistically make a balsa wood hand launched glider? Future video idea maybe? 😉😉
Some people have done big ones in another channel. But for big airplanes I prefer to use the classic built metoth.
In the US we build them up to 1m span for contest flying. Tailbooms have to be made from carbon to handle the launch stresses because we discus launch them. The pros get close to 2 minutes in calm air.
@@joshuawfinn Wow. Just saw your channel and you have some amazing stuff there. Specially the super slow flyers! Glad I randomly found your channel. Subscribed!
@@manasagarwal6924 welcome to my crazy world :)
I think it lacks angle of incidence.
I'll make another one and test that.
@@Joyplanes Es un aeromodelo muy bonito.
This was designed for indoor flying. Indoor gliders don't need as much built-in stability as outdoor flyers. For outdoor use, build one, see how it performs and adjust as needed. At 7:01, you can see he is adding 'up' elevator. Too much 'up' elevator and the plane will loop at the launch. It's a tightrope between enough incidence for recovery and too much so it loops.
Hi, can I make with only 1.5 mm thick balsa wood?
Nice job!
I actually made this glider and it took a little while but it was so fun to make and I even added some ultralight servos on the flaps to make it Remote controllable!
No Way
I Watch all of your vids and I can’t believe that you hearted my comment! 😁
Again thank you so much for posting this step by step, it really helped!
The link doesn’t work
Fixed!
Go to outerzone.co.uk Enter world's record glider in the 'Search plans' box.
I am also working on this project!
Will upload video very soon!!!!
Btw I just love to watch videos from joyplanes RC❤️
Thank you, I want to see your video.
@@Joyplanes of course, will upload it very soon!

Not that much informative as your videos are!
Just asking, but wouldn't the glider fly better if the wings folded down and you give a little less thrust? as the down wings will provide stable lift allowing long glide range and speed at the same time
The Wing Is probably too small
cool
fly very will
It was a good glider to make.
nice plane
It sure is!
How do we make styrofoam glider?
God
thats amazing
In the world
In spanish pls
Best plane
God
Can I make this with foam board
Probably but it is a bit different process.
