So much fun to watch the whole family work together, memories for them that will last forever.
The best part of that video is @04:22 where your grandson is absorbing the knowledge and insight that you're sharing with him. He is a lucky kid.
Many hands makes light work. And it's a beautiful sight when it's family pulling together for a common goal. I'll say it again. You are a blessed man Scott and you are such a blessing. Be well and keep up the great work
I've said this before: But it is always so good to see Kenny there enjoying the festivities! Thank You!!
Yes!! was happy when i saw kenny observing :)
This looks like a 3 generation project. We'll done in raising young men to know the value of a hard day of work! I have sons similar ages and it's a rarety to see father to son discipleship in common tasks.
I wish my dad would have been a journeyman. Now at 40 + I am having to keep up with times change. We're good though. I appreciate fellows
The grandfatherly forefinger coming in to slide that spill into the void. Applause for those finishing touches.
love your friend who comes by to enjoy watching you work. He's got the front row seat all of us on youtube wish we had!
Hey Ken,
Good to see you on the job. I carry the billy club in my truck all the time. Fond memories of our time during the Open House.
Jack & Pam from Indiana
Love seeing Ken out sharing his knowledge and enjoying the learning that’s happening on this project!
Well I agree with Duane -- glad to see Kenny on site.
Good crew. I worked with some well grounded young'uns today. Pruning in an orchard and sorting out the wood pieces big enough to be firewood for a local widow.
Some people are good, and DO good. Even in today's world.
Found your videos a couple of weeks ago, I'm a young Carpenter in Australia your videos are really useful and entertaining, thank you for making them
Oh you’ve got hours and hours ahead of you!
Your enthusiasm spews every video, great video editing, I enjoy watching your profound knowledge of your craft. Keep em coming!
I too have a Master Carpenter as a father inlaw and it is a wonderful thing!
I remember the video about the sling trucks, those things are amazing! Project is coming along great.
I just love everything about your videos. Your work ethic, intelligence and willingness to learn amaze me. You remind me of my dad and the values he instilled in me. I’m a red seal journeyman carpenter up in Alberta Canada and love all your videos!!!
Orange juice jugs (the narrow type) cut open are perfect for aiming the slop into the cells. :)
What a nice way to end my day!
Thanks, gents!
Wholesome and real people, keeping families and générations together. A lot to admire here. Bless you all and thanks for the content. 😇
Good morning EC. Things really coming together nicely. Nice to see some old school stuff here. Greetings from Jamaica 🇯🇲
I actually saw a documentary on the man who designed and built the first truck and conveyer system for delivering coal to homes in the north that used it for heating and I was in awe. When I saw the rock truck I smiled, I remembered that man and the documentary. That's why I love your channel so I can learn.
Just, super good !
Looking great Scott and family.😊😊😊
What a great family project, great job teaching those boys right! I hope I can do something like this with my dad and my boys one day, that would be a dream come true.
Your narration always kinda reminds me of The Wonder Years, love the show.
A former remodeling contractor, I always enjoy watching yer videos, always something more to learn. Now a semi drvr.
Great team, great job great memories
When you come to northern Maine make sure to try Houlton Farms Dairy chocolate milk!!
We will!!!! Thank you for recommending!
A big plastic feed scoop works really well when grouting or core filling block
Works good for putting down mulch and compost, too. 😁
I see you “graduated” to the two wheeler. 😁
Anytime you fight any water intrusion it’s a good battle whether you think it’s needed or not. Sometimes you have to look at the cost of doing it now (the cost of a can of black waterproofing membrane) to the cost of what it would cost afterwards. Hand digging that already backfilled trench. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, I would have put three coats on and gone all the way to the top. It is out of sight anyway.
Good work!
At this moment, those kids have no idea how lucky they are to be working with grandpa!
Great team work! Nice mixer with lots of patina…
Working with concrete/mortar: Gloves, eye protection. And when I'm opening those bags and tossing them around, a respirator. I was doing this kind of work a couple days ago.
Good idea to have that coating on the back side of those CMU. A belt + suspenders approach.
Let the good time roll. Thanks again
Slinging stones! Always something new to learn:)
I see you have your grandson using the right tools, a wood float for moving and sealing concrete while getting the aggregate down and a mag float sealing and smoothing the concrete. Most people don’t realize how handy and fast a wood float is, nice job!
And when the jobs over a wire brush to clean up what went over the edge and in to the wall. 😎
Good technique on the vibrator on every ones part . Fast decent with a slow ascent .
Very nice! 👍 Watching from Philippines 🇵🇭
Who's the man that sits in the chair and just watches? I love his supervisorial role in the all of this!
that truck is so cool
Very nice!
Nice job !
4:04 "it wasn't EXACTLY my fault."
*_snort laugh_* Love you, Scott!
Love your work 👍
You've got a great tribe there Scott, to include Kenny. 🥰
Thank you
In the old days, I would regularly bring down loads of sawdust to RFP. On the way back, I'd stop at the Chevron at Hwy 42 and Roberts Creek Rd. for an apple fritter and a chocolate milk. Timing had to be right or else the case would be full of yesterday's pastries. Most of the time, I was leaving RFP around 4am, so the fresh ones were usually waiting for me. Sometimes even still warm.
Good times.
I like the drainage system at the back of the block wall. Aussies call it 'Black jack tar' backfilling with granite stone road grade.
🌏🇭🇲
They broke the mold with you fella.
Good to see little people learning so they can build and repair in the future.
Slinger truck sure beats a wheelbarrow. Thanks for the update.
Good Job guys,
Greetings,
Good example of the phrase "start around back" 😂!! Looks good and enjoy the content!
My back hurts watching this! Way to go fellas
@2:05 Who is the guy in the ghilly suit?
That Umpqua chocolate milk is so dang good. Used to be able to get it down in Bend but no such luck in Portland! It’s salty and milkshakey.
cool
Go Beavs!
You have ENTS!!!!
I'm curious why you didn't just drop some fabric and use 3" perforated under the rock at the retaining wall, you're taking the roof water but could have a free foundation drain too.
Douglas County, eh? I was raised in Douglas County. Colorado! 🤠
Gotta love a good slinger. I just saved a whole days labor of 6 guys two weeks ago. Made money..
Good on you for having the kids work. You deserve everything you have and it's nice to
I hope that black pipe was indeed a storm drain and not part of a leech field for the septic. 😅
Nice video. Btw a sniper in ghillie suit is randomly crossing your garden at 2:07
I like the person dressed up as a tree at 2:05
Love the video as always. It doesn't matter much for a lift as small as you did in these walls, but please consider using actual grout (not concrete) when filling CMU at higher lifts that is more reinforced. Grout has much small aggregate and flows much better than concrete.
I gave this video a thumbs up just for the Umpqua Dairy Chocolate Milk.
From a proud Grandpa, ya gotta get the kid some construction grade suspenders.
"There isn't much minus when it gets out there"😀😀😀
Do you find yourself using gravel more than you otherwise might with the availability of those slinger trucks?
Did I see that right? He can operate the truck/move it from outside the cab?
I came to the comments to ask this exact question. Eager to hear an answer!
You might have missed the tour of the Slinger truck episode. I thought is was great. ua-cam.com/video/3LW9Yyq7dy4/v-deo.html
Is the back of the house two different colors?
Yes! In the middle of a new paint job!
Wet sticking of vert rods is not allowed in Florida. Verts have to be tied to the dowels turned up out of the footing. When we have to bucket mud into a wall I love grout grunt scoops. But in tight spaces nothing beats a hand wipe container .
I liked the spec house but knowing it was for someone else didn’t make me love it….. I love this project.
Having lived in Oregon and Roseburg for awhile I still notice how few houses use brick exteriors.
There’s a shortage of skilled masons in this country.
If you dump a wheelbarrow of concrete, you owe the crew a six pack (with this crew it’ll probably be chocolate milk rather than the canned adult beverage), so it looks like you might have already bought! Lol
I would have kept that down pipe one or two feet back from the corner to keep it out of sight, assuming the spouting runs along the retaining wall side.
What's with the re-enactment of Macbeth at 2:03?
If there is any moisture in the soil at any time of the year waterproofing masonry is not optional.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Looks Nice!! I'm curious, why would You not put a french drain at the base of the wall before the rock was blown in?
Probably because it is open both ends. The water will run out the ends before it gets a chance to work its way into a perforated pipe.
Someone forget finishing the paint on the house's back wall?
What is more handy, a bucket or a pocket on a t-shirt?
Did anyone else notice that USMC sniper sneak past them at around 2:05?
Part of me was hoping for some baby goats pulling floats.
@2:05 it looks like someone is using a comically bad disguise to sneak by you LOL
The family that builds together, stays together?
what is the price difference if you had truck deliver this?
2:05 for a quick second looked like a gillie suit walking by
I was wondering who was decked out in the camera!!!
Since you filled the block, would a poured concrete wall have been more practical?
The ice cream isn’t too bad either
Ooof, 9:24 moving gravels with a digging shovel instead of a flat moving shovel
I'm about to grout a block wall of my own. Everything I'm reading says ready mix cement is not grout and shouldn't be used. Does it really matter?
Who’s the old guy always sitting in the chair? Needs to get to work!😆
The return of the "Smoking Doctor" while dumping a bag of grout "maskless" in the mix.... :)
Totally unrelated topic… do you know what pipe tobacco Ken smokes in his pipe ? 😊
Anyone else wondering what walked in from the left at about 2:05?
Was actually just wondering where I'd hire a slinger in R'burg. Should have guessed Umpqua S&G would have one! Good to know and thx.
