I watched this movie on HBO when I wasn’t supposed to as a kid. I told my best friend about this awesome film where a guy gets cut in half. He came for a sleep over and we snuck into the living room to watch it after everyone went to bed. Shortly after the slice and dice scene, my friend got scared and we went to bed. When I woke up the next morning, I was in super trouble. My pal woke up screaming from nightmares (which I slept through) and ended up sleeping in my parents room. He wasn’t allowed over for a while and for years he would wind up sleeping on his parents floor next to their bed. I essentially broke my friend.
@@greenkoopa The funny thing was that he was the jock and I…wasn’t. We both went to catholic school and his parents were former missionaries who gave up the cloth to get married, so his family was more steeped in the religious world than I was.
The idea that Damien could actually care for the people that are supposed to be his family is the best thing this movie has going for it. He is growing like a normal person would and maybe his evil nature could be suppressed somehow. Obviously that idea doesn’t fully work for the purpose of a horror movie but it’s still a great premise. Also, Jerry Goldsmith music is as great as ever.
More Omen please!!!! And ftr, I actually really enjoy Damien:Omen 2. I think the dates scene, his argument with mark, and the scene where he realizes who/what he is are surprisingly well done.

It’s not a bad trilogy. A bit inconsistent, but I do like we got a journey for Damien from a child who might be evil to him becoming aware of his destiny in Part 2 to fully embracing his evil by the third film; plus Sam Neil makes the final film in the trilogy worth watching. Never saw the 4th installment or TV show & let’s forget the 2006 “remake” exists cause they just copied Donner’s homework but made it worse; although having Mia Farrow as Mrs. Baylock was a nice touch considering she was the AntiChrist’s mother in a different film 😉
I'm sure you're going to get a LOT of "this movie is so underrated" comments and that's because it is. I feel like no one saw this movie because "lol Omen sequel" but then when they finally did they were like "oh, this is REALLY good"!
I thought all 3 movies were good in their own way . 1st one , of course is the best , creepy atmosphere and amazing music 2nd one , was the most entertaining and I liked how Damien figures out who he really is was done well and him slowly accepting it and giving in is unsettling. 3rd one . ( my personal favorite) To me , was the most anxiety inducing one cuz how everyone is now following Damien and obeying his every command and to me ,the scariest one mostly cuz the whole cult stuff and first time watching it as a kid, I genuinely thought he was going to win in the end . Also the mass baby killing scene always stuck with me .
i like that he wasnt always blatantly devilish, but his personality was always smug and arrogant, playful and prideful, i liked that a lot. he was, of course, still sympathetic tho. also, his reaction to his fate was very realistic and i was very satisfied with it, although i wish they had explored his psyche a little more, his thoughts and him SLOWLY coming to terms with his role in the apocalypse, but i still enjoy his character a whole lot. underrated movie
My dad got a perm after getting divorced and hooking up with a family friend. The first time I saw it was in a picture but when I finally saw it in person I laughed in his face, I was nine years old. It was like Mike Brady's from the Brady Bunch 😂
Yay more of the Omen. Glad that we are building up the Final Conflict which I think I saw over and over again on HBO and late night television. Great review as always, Snob.
“The ice is gonna break!”. Great use of that clip Brad! Please review that classic 82 Cronenberg movie starring Christopher Walken known as The Dead Zone.
This is my favorite of the Omen movies. William Holden's descent is very well done, as well as Damien's transition. I remember when Joan Hart gets attacked by the crow the terror began to ramp up, but then when they threw the mannequin at the truck in the end, I died of laughter. Good times. Edit: Lee Grant is frickin' hot in this movie.
Sam Neill is iconic in general, and his performance as Damien in the third film is superb. But that said, I think the second film is my favorite of all. There's also a strange sort of feel from the aesthetics of it, which are often oddly cozy at times, or comfortable, even in places one wouldn't expect, like the academy Damien and his cousin attend. Of course there's an appeal of being a child of privilege with a fantastical and truly supernatural heritage, but this is one of a very few films that presents that with a tremendous weight and a ponderous destiny. This being shot when it was, too, contributed to the bleak but evocative tone it gradually adopted. It is also one of the funniest movies to watch through the disgusted queen filter on snapchat, which is the one stupid thing I have to add. Bugenhagen is amazing.
Don't forget that Gilbert Taylor, who photographed the first film, was the lighting cameraman for the prologue of this film; hence, why the opening of the film looks like it was shot shortly after the first film.
Thanks for making me spit my drink on my laptop when you showed Snoopy as doing the accompanying music. I instantly remembered Snoopy's rubber banding along and peed my pants laughing. Only Snob can mix G and R ratings and make it work for me.

Great timing covering a film with a character named Bugenhagen in it right after the release of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth! Also, I honestly always assumed the name in the game was purely made up as a funny fantasy name that could belong to a crazy old man, I had no idea the name was used elsewhere so it was surprising hearing it said so casually here.
I didn’t realize this until now, but the chairs the family uses in the dinner sequence were also used in Young Frankenstein. With both being from 20th Century Fox, this would make sense.
22:47 I recollect in the novelisation of the film that Buher and Neff were in Murray's car waiting for Damien at the Museum as the film ends. So there were technically four disciples in this sequel; Buher, Jeff, Murray and Ann.
Buher is also name-dropped in Omen III. After Christ is born, Harvey Dean mentions to Damien that Buher had drafted a press release for the the Assuan Dam that"s so full of holes, that they could drive a truck through it.
This is the movie that gave us the horrible death scenario of DROWNING IN SAND! I mean, really, how messed up is that? Imagine being trapped in that room, with the rising sand.
Meant to leave a comment yesterday when I caught up watching this but I smiled so hard when I saw you were going to review this movie. Damien: Omen II is on my top 20 favorite Horror movie list. It's definitely in my top 5 Horror sequels and probably the only Omen movie I've seen the most of (besides the original 1976 film). I love setting up Damien as sympathetic with everyone else around him adding to his confusion and unsure of what's going on. I do wish we had a glimpse of seeing him before his teenage years following the first movie and while I do wish we got more focus on Damien and his friendship with his cousin, Mark and him at the military school, I do like this sequel better than half of other horror franchise sequels. And to me, this franchise has probably the least embarrassing history bc it stays in it's own lane without getting too insane: the 1976 original, the 1978 & 1981 sequels, a sequel TV movie (1991), the 2006 Remake, and the 2016 TV series called "Damien" (which only ran for 1 season; though the tv show is insanely fun and is it's own take on Damien's character. so check that out if you can/have time!). How sad that Omen II was Jonathan Scott-Taylor's high watermark as an actor, for he was very good in the movie. He did a handful of British TV and theater productions after Omen II, and has completely stopped acting since 1988.
Honestly it’s not that bad a sequel. It does still pale in comparison to the first film, but I do like how Damien is portrayed here as he seems aware of what he is but struggles a bit with it. And his emotion over killing his cousin who was like a brother is kinda heartbreaking. Also nice they got Goldsmith to return for the score & of course who doesn’t love an early appearance from Lance Henricksen; the same year he also showed up in James Cameron’s wildly laughed at debut Desiree, Piranha II: the Spawning
The second film is quite good. I’m sure the prequel coming out so close to the Exorcist reboot intentional. Oddly enough, the same thing happened with the original film, and Exorcist respectively.
I like how they made Damien sympathetic at first rather than have him just fully embrace from the beginning.
