According to Ilio Barontini, playing songs by Battiato on the piano means making music in the widest sense of the word: these piano versions reappropriate the musical and lyrical richness of the songs and revaluate it in a new guise. Battiato's electronic experimentations are recreated by original piano effects, but at the same time, the tracks of this album are not a literal adaptation. They are the fruit of an attentive, passionate work by Ilio Barontini, fed by his love for Italian songwriting and classical-romantic piano. Barontini intercepts Battiato's intimate, spiritual, sometimes metaphysical dimension. Right away, the listener experiences a kind of ecstasy in which the mind wanders together with the sound.
"My Master has taught me how hard it is to find the dawn in the twilight." This quote from "Prospettiva Nevski" has been chosen by the cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi on Twitter to highlight the spiritual depth of Battiato's lyrics, that sometimes seems like poems, sometimes prayers. Ilio Barontini's piano recreations shed new light on the secrets of the twilight.
