Darren Hayes said on an interview with Mail Online that they sent hundreds & hundreds of demos & they received hundreds & hundreds of rejection letters w/c they still had them on file... It was Rosie O'Donnel in the US who played a snippet of I want You & she played it on her talk show everyday... it was her who paved Savage Garden to a record deal with Columbia Records.
After singing this with everything he had someone came up to him and said to him open your eyes when you sing, one way to put someone down when they don't deserve it or need it.
Wow! This is cool! He really did sing really good when he performed live! Most singers today can't do that! This song brings back so many memories--this song and "Truly Madly Deeply" were the first songs I ever really liked in my whole life. I first heard these songs when I was like 4 years old and I completely loved them both! I still remember when me and my two older sisters played frisbee in our neighbor's yard and I was singing this song. I was only five years old. Ah, childhood memories...
I think a lot of people sound ok live when you're actually at the concert, because of the excitement of being there, but when you listen back to a recording of it, they're not so great. But Darren is definitely the exception. He is just mindblowing live, I am dumbfounded how good he is.
I know this has been said before, but I feel that I must say it: Darren is amazing live and this video just proves it. It was a pleasure listening to it and I got some goosebumps. One of my favourite SG songs, and he did it justice, Bravo Darren, Bravo, hope you continue to write and sing songs like this for a long time. BTW, I pity the person who disliked this. That person sure dont have much fun I life, I think.
I know I've never been to his concerts yet but from watching all these clips with him singing live...What can I say amazing! I don't know anyone who sounds even better then their record live.
You know, I couldn't agree more with all of these comments. He's amazing live, in all aspects. It's very rare that you find an artist that sings as well as he does live. I've seen Savage Garden in concert (Affirmation Tour); I was @ the listening party he held in San Francisco for THE TENSION & THE SPARK (2nd solo album), and a show he did in San Francisco last summer @ The Red Devil Lounge to promote THIS DELICATE THING WE'VE MADE. I've met him twice... he's just amazing all around !
@TheSinger1004 Hello can you tell me where is the part when Darren goes from chest voice to falsetto? I am not an expert in voice technique, so I don't get the part that you mean. thx
He lives in London. He lived in Sausalito, California... which is just on the other end of the Golden Gate Bridge. He hasn't lived there since a while after the release of THE TENSION & THE SPARK.
The female backup singers are so annoying when they overpower Darren's beautiful voice. The whole point of having backing vocalists is to enhance the singer's voice, not take over it!

Not just wedding ;-) it is the kind of song that instantly conjures up the feeling of being in love for the first time
he goes from chest voice to falsetto so effortlessly, amazing singer
Darren has the voice of an angel. Those high notes he gets to are simply amazing, love it!
Bless Rosie for endorsing Savage Garden so much!! :)

My best friend knows this is going to be played at my wedding lol
Kind of good to hear her say "Get the CD" instead of "Available for download on iTunes"!
His voice has a magic... Believe me
