Everyone got lucky because most of the east coast US salvage equipment was stationed within sight of the FSK bridge and the first 2 small channels were made to help these crane barges to get from one side of the fallen bridge to the other. Also the old Bethlehem Steel plant used to be right down there so there was a place really close to bring the bridge debris. If everything goes well the port should be back up within the next 2 weeks. Sadly it is going to take YEARS to rebuild this bridge so truck traffic will still be a mess as will both tunnels for awhile, but the port will be fully running again very soon so it shouldn't take too much to carry all of these people through.

While I was no Hogan fan, I don't think it's fair or in good taste to try and blame Hogan for this tragedy. If you actually look back to 2017, when the regulations were changed, it had full support of the MD legislature. It was also deemed necessary as ships sizes were at that point 1,500 times larger than they were in 1968 when construction of the bridge began. Even by the time construction ended and the bridge opened ships had quadrupled in size since 1968. The fact is tankers and container ships were being constructed much larger in 2017 than they were in 1968 or 1977. The Key bridge was still suitable to allow these ships to pass under it. The bill was to dredge the canal to allow these ships to enter it. The only detail I recall that was going to detrimental at the time was the loss of sea life, like crabs/clams etc and how that would effect the MD economy.
I just hate when someone takes a tragedy like this and "spins" it as a political statement. It's a big problem in our society when political views overshadow lives.

The global supply chain cannot just simply stop because six ppl lost their lives … the company executives have to do what they do, as does EVERYONE ELSE all the way down to the grieving family members.

Worrisome because my license has my weight as 147 lbs and my date of birth is the exact amount of time the ship lost power. Hope the warlocks who work for the fedcartel weren’t sending a spell out to me but they missed so yes the fedcartel should step up and cover living expenses for all of Baltimore. It is just mind boggling that a port of the magnitude of Baltimore can be closed by an accident-waiting-to-happen like this rickety bridge. Other major harbours have tunnels crossing the harbour entrance or high rise well constructed concrete bridges fortified against ship collisions like this.
It shows just how sh¡tty US infrastructure really is. I am sure that the financial impact of this bridge collapse will cost more than a tunnel or even just a decent modern bridge that is fortified against ship collisions.
