- In this Signal Colors: Primer - I'm taking a first look at the Chroma Console and running a full pattern through it through various modes. "Console" is the perfect name for this because it really feels like a complete FX powerhouse - I'm liking it a lot!

I was hyped by their marketing, preordered that first day for various reasons. Then saw a few demoes and was massively underwhelmed so tried to cancel my order. Then saw 1 (out of the 5 or 6 extended demoes) that actually used it as a performance effect and it was fantastic...soooo many hidden features missed by folks who’d not really dug below the basics. Phenomenal bit of kit for sound design, so glad I kept my order. No idea why I’m writing this, must be bored 😂
Very cool!! I’m definitely just scratching the surface here myself, I definitely need more time with it before I can really show it off and learn all my favorite sweet spots first haha, but I like it so far! I appreciate the comment, thanks for checking out the vid and for hanging out in the comments :)
Good insight. I’m still on the fence as I own an empress zoia 😅
@@natethebesttt ooh, those splinters! In contrast this is much more instant and easy to use with a definite analog tonal lean, intentionally so. But the added depth of performance recording, looping and reordering mean it’s got more usage cases than a basic multieffect. The key to falling off the fence is really going to be your ear vs the Zoila...I really, really like the sonic signatures this thing has across a broad sweep of each dial, so the functionality is a bonus. If it was just a purchase for the feature-set I’d reconsider it. That’s my tuppence :)
@@Farold_Haltermeyer I am still on the fence but II have been interested in it, specifically the motion recording, can all four effect lanes have a differently timed sequence? And can the tempo of length of the sequence increase or decrease? And how long can they be? Like I get the sense that it has a lot of potential to gradually change your effects over time and the sound design over the course of a tune, while also change them rhythmically in another effect lane, but I'm not quite sure. Thanks for any input!
Wish more people also understood that if the device can store presets, you can usually control all the parameters with Midi CC messages and do some really cool stuff
Digging this way more than the Microcosm.
I agree! I think the Microcosm is cool, but it wasn’t really for me and my style, though I still think it’s executed really well for what it is. You picking up the Chroma Console?
Definitely, in a month or so. I’m still waiting for the Chompi to arrive
@@djktron That thing looks fun!
I’m so excited to see what Holagram comes up with next
They keep putting out winners!
Looking forward to use the same setup for some soundscaping.
Perfect for that 🙌
Thanks, looking forward for full depth video. Mine coming this week. What’s that cup / tom sound coming from the Syntakt?
That’s exciting! It’s a fun one for sure. Definitely come back for that one if you’re interested - I’d appreciate it!
If it’s the sound I’m thinking you’re referring to, I started with the Toy patch and tweaked it to get that kind of mallet-struck hollow ceramic bowl kind of sound haha. Hope that helps!
Ya, like a ceramic whiffle ball. I like the Syntakt, but only after applying some sort of external filter or effect… glad you used it as source
@@bryanbytes I think it's a good foundational Elektron box, this and a Digitakt would go a loooong way. I like it because I have an A4 MKII and a RYTM MKII and the Syntakt allows me to have the same workflow and some similar sounds for demos, but I don't have to tear down my main setup to shoot these demos haha.
I’ve got a RYTM too and that’s my drum machine to rule all lol
@bryanbytes oh nice! 100% - I love it ⚡️
3:22 oof that Drive just destroys all of your deep bass when you kick it in. I think I only could use this in actual parallel. The Sweeten setting only kills the bass a little bit, but... meh.
Yeahhhh... I could've probably mixed it out a bit and brought in some more clean, but then cranked the drive level to compensate. Drive is a tough one on low-end in general, but yeah I hear you. I'm still liking all this thing has to offer though, even if you skip drive entirely haha. I'm also hitting it with a full mix, might behave a bit differently on less harmonically rich content. Might have to investigate that for my more in-depth video!
Yeah that's a common sacrifice on MANY Overdrives (also depends on what kind of clipping it's got - i.e. Sym/Asym, what it uses for gainstaging, etc.), but also keep in mind the Tilt EQ can bring back more if used in combination with its Alt-functions for Level + Sensitivity so it doesn't cut for quite as long!
That's a good tip! @@goonfish
maybe a comparison between this one and the Ghost pedal from Endorphin would make sense?
That would be a great comparison! I don’t have the Ghost but if I pick one up I’ll definitely make a comparison vid!
I am selling away my Ghost pedal. It is really strong with its modulation capabilities but the most important thing = sound, is just not good enough. Reverb does not sound great and delay is almost useless for my taste. The midi clock sync on delay does not feel like its working properly. I will switch to Chroma console if I want to get another multi fx pedal.
@@ahzootube Thank you : )
