Cant wait to listen to these strong players talk and then blunder all of my pieces!
Why do you let them blunder your pieces?
It's probably the refresh rate on the screen. We react to the sound not the visual. The electronic image is constantly not there, your brain assembles a consistent picture for you but over and over again you're not actually seeing the board because it isn't there. Where as the sound is consistent. The brain is trained to react within expectation on the cue of the "click" you blundered because you didn't see it, you didn't see it because it wasn't there. What you "saw" was what you expected to see. Can't play chess if you don't know the last move.
oh the struggles...
13:44 "It's a good question, for example, why does Hikaru always have a bad score against Nakamura"
An enigma for the ages
i was laughing my wits out at this
I want to see hikaru's reaction on this.
LOOOOL
Because Nakamura is a much better player than Hikaru is. Next question.
lol i was taken aback by it. did he mean why does Hikaru have such a bad score against Magnus?
Fabi's face lit up when Anish joined😁
Anish to Cristian " Ah you are not married, that explains your stupid question"😂😂
Amazing episode. Giri talking about the impact of winning Reggio Emilia so young, and Fabi being so candid about his relationship with Rustam both provided incredible insights into chess at the top level. Thanks guys.
at what timestamp did Anish talk abt Reggio Emilia?
Love how candid the guests as well as the hosts are in this podcast. My favorite podcast to follow.
Another great podcast as usual. I think what makes this podcast unique is the people behind the players. One advantage of interviewing an established player like Anish is that he's both had a lot of experience, good and bad, but also he's given a lot of thought to many things. There's a frankness about your guests who reveal more about themselves, and we're not bogged in the middle of the chess details that only chess experts would find interesting (this was the rabbit hole that Jorden was going down, but he did a some good comments too). Anish is also one of the funniest GMs out there such as when he was discussing the brief fallout between him and Jorden. Cristian was able to tie this to Fabi's own falling out with Rustam. This is unlike tennis where a player can lose their physical abilities but still have a great deal of knowledge about tennis (see Lendl with Murray or Goran with Djokovic). It's a small community that shares the same people and unlike tennis, where you top players hide their personal issues from public scrutiny, the podcast has really honest emotions. I can relate (to a degree) what Fabi is going through where somehow someone you were close with doesn't want to be together, and how he doesn't fully grasp it and yet how hurtful it is, and how you end up having to push past that and move on with life. And while I enjoy the silliness of Hikaru's podcasts, there's an emotional core in the best of the interviews. This isn't to say there aren't humorous moments (see the interview with Vidit and Ganguly) or even harrowing ones (Aronian). You just don't see that level of vulnerability with other sports figures that want to keep their weaknesses private.
Super interesting podcast. With Twitch and UA-cam we have more and more access to what GM really think, and in a less filtered way than in many traditional places like tv. It is so precious!!
Anish made the interview really 🔥
what would I do without the c-squared podcast man. Literally the best insights into the top class chess world
Weren't you in jail?
@@AyaanKhan-tb2ot bro💀 don't do me like that
Two words: Chicken Chess Podcast. Wait, that's three words.
@@tristan7720 TOP T 💀
That was supremely interesting about Magnus’s preparation and the players’ relationships with their team. Also really appreciate Fabi being so candid about his coach. It’s true, sadly the pandemic ended many relationships, partially because different people coped with the situation very differently and some struggled a lot more than others.
This is quality stuff. I appreciate the insights from behind the scenes that you have bravely shared. It provides meaningful context to super grandmaster chess competitions that we feel part of as viewers on the net.
What a loaded episode!!! always love hearing from JVF (and Anish ofc!). Well done.
It was very interesting to hear about the details in the Jorden team debacle.
absolutely incredible podcast as usual. i especially liked cristian's point at 1:09:46 when he said that Magnus' contracts are far more stable and better controlled.
They uploaded the podcast 5 mins ago wth
@@TimTimothy11 hes a time traveller
this is a paid comment
@@TimTimothy11 Sometimes they show up on the regular podcast platforms at different times. Usually quite a bit later than the youtube vids, in my experience, but it varies and I think I've seen them come up sooner on my podcatcher than on here

should include anish and jvf in thumbnail for more views
Anish really nailed it when he indicated Fabi is to understatement what GothamChess is to exaggeration! 😂🤣😂
Yeah that was very well said lmao
haha that is an amazing quoute, do you have a timestamp?
@@noone-ld7pt 35:31
He did not say that at all. Did not mention GothamChess whatsoever at that timestamp. This is how faulty quotes are spread around.
@@elmarhaneveld that's why he said "indicated". Rest is upto your imagination.
Thank you for the time stamps!
Great episode, guys. Both JvF and Giri have awesome insights into the game.
For those wondering...
"Paddle tennis, rebranded as Pop tennis in 2015, is a game adapted from tennis and played for over a century. Compared to tennis, the court is smaller and has no doubles lanes, and the net is lower. Paddle tennis is played with a solid paddle as opposed to a strung racquet, and a depressurized tennis ball is used."
I absolutely love this podcast … it’s so very fascinating to see how the minds of these super chess players work .. they are so full of wisdom and can learn a lot from them as well.
Awesome episode! Have been waiting for you guys to talk to Anish - thank you so much! :) I already cannot wait for the next time you have him on the podcast, hopefully in person.
Finally Anish is on the podcast! This is going to be 🔥
An early gift episode!? Good to see you back guys!! This episode one looks spicy btw!👀👀
Loved it! Great to learn more about Jordan. Seems like a really good dude.
2:54 Come on, we need actual classic 960 events :P
what a good level podcast it is and good to hear about fabi and his coach
Absolutely brilliant episode!
Finally the Dutch duo
Anish Giri is truely one of the chess players out there!
Thank you CSquared Fabi & Cristian. Appreciate Anish and Jorden. Great show.
Great to learn more about these players. Jordan was very eloquent. Anish really got going -- speedy gonzales.
First time I finished a full C^2 podcast and I would say this one was worth it :)
Very insightful episode on a very sensitive subject. Thanks Fabi and Anish for the insights.
More of these in-world chess-business stories, very interesting about the seconds and coaches! And I'd like to know more about the non-excisting(?) real life interactions between different GMs!
Great episode guys
Great episode - Both Jorden and Anish are terrific guests.
Great interviews. Would love to hear more from both of these players. I think these contracts jorden had to sign are unfair and exploitative and should not be blamed on young chess players who sign them. Just because it's common doesn't mean it's right
Agree with you. For some reason I wasn't surprised that it is Magnus who uses such a thing and learn that great men like Anish and Fabi don't
I love your podcast and have watched every episode.
Little nugget of constructive feedback, for the remote ones maybe consider a headset? There is a background noise (I think it comes from fabi's laptop fan) that can be distracting
As he got mentioned very shortly in this episode - I'd literally jump in anticipation if you got Jan Gustafsson on your show! 🥳
Great podcast, insights from elites. Keep it up.
Good to see Anish and Jordan on the pod
Great episode loved the interviews! Working on a chess team to me is a very interesting part of the game
You must make Anish's "Men of Honor" speech the next UA-cam short...
BTW, this is one classy podcast. How did you not title this with the clickbait, "Fabiano reveals the AFTERMATH of INTIMATE SEPARATION from coach!"
@@StevenStJohn-kj9eb That can still be a shorts title
It finally happened, at last
For a second I thought it would be a double-interview, like the hilarious one on Tata Steel ))
Wonderful interview, guys, love Fabi, love Anish, enjoyed Jorden as well, great job Cristi, kisses from Romania, I watched Tata Steel, i am glad Fabi took it easy this time. Happy for Anish winning it and beating Magnus. :)) Very interesting everything you guys said about collaborations and relationship with colleagues and coaches. These are aspects we don/t get to know and are always of interest, because we gt to know you better and understand better the emotional rollercoaster you go through.
true!
Couple of absolute Chads right here
Great podcast! Fabi seemed a little out of it though, Christian was the one pouring in all the energy. Fabi has seemed a little out of it for the last few episodes, probably still tired from playing Wijk. Hope he doesn't lose enthusiasm for the podcast, it really is the best chess podcast out there.
I doubt he'll ever lose enthusiasm, he seems to really like it, dude has just been going non-stop for ages lately. I mean I don't know his personal life but I know he said something about how he was finishing up the process of moving right when he was playing in the SCC a few weeks back and it seems like he's just been going and going with one thing after another since then. I'd be exhausted for sure haha I hope homie gets a good solid non-working vacation soon
It seems that in spite of all this talk of opening advantages that most games that are decided were equalized early, and the final decisive factor seems to be a significant endgame strategic skill.
This is a banger
Hey guys, I have found your podcast just recently and that's why my question comes a bit late for this episode. I'm currently working with chess players as a psychologist and would love to know the name of the book Caruana mentioned at min 42:12. I hope the message doesn't get lost and keep the good work, the podcast is an amazing in-depth insight of what happens at the elite.
solving some puzzles while listening🔥
Christian seemed like he was trying to create "clip channel" content with some of his word choice in the last 3rd of the podcast 😂
Was Fabi standing during the entire podcast or it's some really high chair
This was such an interesting episode - I hope nobody is getting in legal trouble 😅 Anish and Jordan are both really interesting personalities!
This Episode was great but it felt rushed. Both Guest deserve a full episode and it felt like they where pushed out of the call too early
13:44 hikaru has a bad score against nakamura 😂 ,hence proved , nakamura is better than hikaru
haha looks like all 3 assumed they meant carlsen, funny the 2 didnt follow up either
Anish is a very open guy
Anish did speak nonstop for few minutes. Fabi and Christian were just to slow 😂
So happy Anish finally got this win!
Don’t you just love listening to people who really knows what they’re talking about…?
Underrated comment
No I like Gotham.
Jorden is a very good looking man. I can't be the only one that thinks that every time I see him.
Where’s your new course fabi ❤
Love this podcast!!
One thing that drives me crazy though haha.. Ian's name is pronounced Neh palm knee she, not Neh palm knee aaaatchee. Important to be respectful and pronounce people's name correctly 😊
But to be fair, the English Spelling of Ian’s surname is very weird and unpronounceable even to a Russian person, let alone others.
@@tranquilitytranquility1407 that's why I'm telling them how it's pronounced 😊
Yep, surprised the guys are still struggling with the pronunciation after so many years of knowing Ian

That C square has a curl at the end of its alligator nose

Amazing ♟️
Amazing podcast as usual 😀, but maybe guys you should come up with some sort of a tactic to not talk at the same time many times 😂😂😂
Have Max Warmerdam on your podcast! He's so handsome too. ☺️
Looks like Maurice should be the next guest.
The so called 'restriction' on van Foreest is actually pretty common in the private sector, particularly where intellectual property/knowledge work is involved. It's called a "non-compete" agreement or clause and legally binds a current or former employee to confidentiality and from competing against an employer for a specific time after employment ceases. It's perfectly legal and actually a smart move for Magnus if he can get it but remember it's totally up to van Foreest and any of Magnus' seconds whether they want to accept those terms in their contract (and, yes, you always have to have a contract so that there is no misunderstanding as described by your guests). Great episode, guys, thanks!
Your volumes are a little too low. Have to boost them up and then when a commersial starts it's distractingly loud.
Fabi why did u cut your hair??? U look better with ur curls
Suggestion: Try to bring more energy and cheerful environment to the podcast.
PS: No hate, I like the podcast.
What about inviting older legends like Ivantchouk, Yussupov, Kamsky, Kramnik... Guys that could talk about the " good" old time without computers. And with USSR! Which keep being something that was SO important for chess.
A tiktok ! Next up, Fabi action figure ! "Wohoo, I will beat you, Aquaman! E4 !"
Comment for algorithm
I just wanted to ask that why Fabi is so inactive in online tournaments. We only see him in championships and barely some tournaments. Why?? Why is he not playing regularly, we want to see him play more. A player as strong as him not playing all the tournaments is just sad.
Please invite Kramnik.
I just don't understand how someone could be bitter towards Fabi. Am I understanding it wrong, that Rustam chose to not be his coach but then was bitter about it?
It would be really interesting to have Sergey on the podcast.
What interesting insight could happen if Daniel Naroditsky and Robert Hess were the guest?
+1
Anish really dislikes MC doesn't he?
56:35 damn. magnus is dirty for doing that. contracts to withhold thoughts about certain lines? what kind of nonsense is that. Might as well patent the human mind.
It's a good podcast yeah, but ok
Commercials every 5 minutes is a bit much.
UA-cam takes a lot of control over that out of creators' hands unfortunately. They have regular audio only uploads of the podcast out there too if that helps
@@ItsAsparageese Yeah I wasn't directing it towards to creators. I was just venting my frustration. UA-cam has gotten out of hand with the commercials recently. This is the first time I've seen this happen on one of their videos. It ruins the whole flow of the video.
@@tonyfortune346 Word super understandable. I literally live in a car but I hate ads enough (and use the music app enough) that investing in premium is still a priority I justify haha, even though I'd rather not give even student-discount amounts of money to the company. Modern urban poverty is weird and it's a little insane that bombardment with ads is a real enough issue for me to treat removing them as a need, now that I think about it that way 😂
Is it just me or does Fabi look bummed?
@Jordan; if you can't attack it, its not a weakness: if you can't convert it, it's not an advantage: and if you can't calculate it, you can't play it. Not, yes but if we let the engine the play the position to compensate for a nonsensical move in 4 or 5 moves we'll find a position we can play. STOP LETTING ENGINES PLAY CHESS FOR YOU
Crybaby's contract gambit against Anish and Jorden is the expected behavior of a sore loser
surprisingly bad audio 🤔
