Funny you should mention "My Chemical Romance"....one of their many many inspirations for their music....nice catch on that one. Both of these songs are from the absolutely EPIC concept album Queen of the Murder Scene (done live at Lunario CDMX in 2018). Dust To Dust is the prologue and "Dull Knives" (cut better) is from Chapter 3 of the 4 chapter story of QOTMS album...one of the best Concept albums ever and written by teenage girls, just to let you know. @@kelleydefenseofficial It seems to be YT "stable volume" setting that is screwing settings up for reactors. Turn it off and that should help fix the issue.
As far as other bands to check out you might want to take a look at a band called Freeze the Fall. They are very young (still in high school) but very talented. They have one EP, Thrones, out and are working on releasing a 2nd EP in spring 2025. They have released a single (VHS) from the new EP and it is a very good song and they are releasing a 2nd one from it called Hypothermia on Feb.12/25
Alejandra (AH-lay, kind of) has perfect pitch, flawless rhythm/tempo, and is a perfectionist. She’s also, honestly, what i would consider a child prodigy. She learned the same (and more advanced) classical piano skills as her 3-5 year older sisters within a couple years, then added bass to her arsenal starting at the age of 7 (?!), and within weeks started playing with her far more experienced sisters in a band setting. She was trained in jazz fusion bass playing by a fantastic jazz fusion bass player, who got her doing serious advanced warm ups all over the fret board, and playing stuff like donna lee (Jaco pastorius version)… sure a little slower but perfectly, while only 11 years old
You are correct in pointing out the amount of space that Ale occupies within The Warning songs. There is a live performance video of them covering Muse, when Ale was ten years old and she plays the complex basslines switching back and forth from underhand to overhand technique - again at TEN YRS. OLD!❤
Queen of the Murder Scene is a concept album released in 2018 when Dany was 18, Pau was 16, and Ale was 13. It tells the story of a young woman’s descent into obsession, murder, and madness, exploring themes of guilt, control, and inner conflict. "Dull Knives (Cut Better)" is the 9th track, part of Chapter 3, where the protagonist’s despair becomes overwhelming. Consumed by darkness, she loses control and turns to self-harm, symbolizing the evil side taking full command of her mind.
Thank you, I have to give you credit where credit is due. Your comments and observations were on point ! Great job. It's good to see when someone notices the little touches that these girls always put in their songwriting. They are great performers, but I really feel that their songwriting and arrangements are what separates them from most rock bands. They are masters at utilizing dynamics and nuances, such as the subtle one you mentioned about the bass and guitar going in opposite directions towards the end. That is genius of them and not many reactors notice that. They all put in their little sprinkles and changes as each song progresses to keep it moving forward with new energy so that it doesn't get old or stale as the song goes on. They are amazing!!!
This comment summarizes it pretty well. Their songwriting and composition skills are what sets them apart. You'll appreciate it more as you dig into their discography.
Appreciate your technical analysis of how they achieve such a full sound with only a three piece. Ale is definitely the secret weapon in that, she brings everything together with her bass work.
It is very common for The Warning to build from a simpler start to a more complex and full second chorus and finish, and adding harmonies along the way is just their trademark.
They have mentioned in interviews that they loved My Chemical Romance and Muse among other groups. They shift through a lot of different genres always focusing on what it takes to make a great song rather than trying to replicate a specific genre or sound. They’re not worried about trying to fit into a specific box. Love The Warning and Band Maid because they love what they do and don’t care about the titles.
Great reaction! As you noticed, Ale is a rock solid foundation to this trio. You have just started to explore the best band of this generation! The full concert from the Pepsi Center is just incredible.
Yeah it's a great reaction, about how important is Ale, about punk vibes, not much reactors saying this, for me The Warning is hard rock in a punk container and with small doses of metal. About the song, he noticed the great stop they do and this stunning harmonies and changing tempos. Definitely are the distinctive signs of this band.
That Bassist aka Ale(ah-ley) "The Goddess of Thunder" did her first recordings for a record when she was in 4th grade. They've been a Band 11yrs.now, she just turned 20yrs. old .They were all classically trained on Piano before they ever touched the instruments they now play.. Go for The Pepsi center cdmx show opener "Disciple" 💥✌️
Great reaction, good ear on the different nuances of the music! Pointed out things that I never heard any one else point out before. And also, awesome for showing Ale the recognition she deserves as bassist.. She is the foundation and has been referred to as a human metronome! Looking forward to your next reaction to them for sure. Cheers from the Rock!
Its fun to see what each new fans pulls out of their songs to highlight. There is an infinite amount of bands they get compared to, as well as time periods. I think that is due to The Warning’s timeless feel. Before their latest record, you really could not pigeon hole them into a specific time or place. They sound like everyone else, but no one else at the same time. They have been described as familiar, but fresh. To me they are reminiscent of early Judas Priest. 🤘🏻😀
The ladies know the secret recipe for Ratatouille. It's a simple dish, but complex in its flavor. Yes, I'm making a reference to Amour, but it applies to all of their music. Simplexcity at its finest. ❤️⚡🤘
TW always bring fire they have fun on stage and it's very contagious. They write their songs for live performances first according to the band in a recent interview totally makes sense when you see them live. Great reaction thank you btw Ale wrote the bassline for D2D as a preteen lol crazy talented. 🔥⚡⚡⚡
This show is the reason I am traveling to Mexico City in a few days to see their full production show! I have seen them in a small club and they always have the same high energy, but these big shows have more songs and surprises that I am so looking forward to!
You have a deep rabbit hole to traverse with The Warning. With 4 albums all with a unique yet having that The Warning flair, the music has something for a range of rock fans to sink their teeth into. Don't forget a Spanish language one-off, single that isn't on any album called "Narcisista", and their earliest recordings in an EP when they were still in their preteens.
I love their Queen of the Murder Scene album. Kids writing and performing a concept album. The album starts with Dust to Dust and gets better from there.
Excellent!, Brother Everything from the Pepsi Center is a killer. If you look at the thumbnails, the bottom right corner has a little number which designates what order the song was played; HOWEVER, if you go to the full concert, it is obviously in order and songs are marked so you know where you are in the concert - and ADDED bonus, it provides subtitles because there are moments when the girls address the audience in Spanish, in between some songs and you'll want to read what they are saying, and not rely on UA-cam to translate for you because it effs it up. When you get to these two songs, just skip them. At the end of the concert, you'll be roughly 1/3 of the way through their catalog. Keep 'em coming! LOVING your reactions! So glad you found them!
Loved your real-time comments that were spot on and insightful, without pausing. Not easy to do that without missing a beat. MCR was a good callout. They talk about them in interviews.
Great reaction my friend. Thank you for coming back to The Warning. Glad you noticed Ale's bass cut through to fill in the sound nicely. Please continue going down the rabbit hole. Keep Rockin' my friend 🤘⚡🤘
In my headcannon the stop was the only thing that managed to make the song, slightly, longer after several failed attempts but just like Dany said: "If you want it to be longer you could always listen to it twice!" You're right about these ladies being consummate professionals, still young but over 11 years as a band already and it shows. They not only compliment each other musically but personalitywise as well, Ale brings the swagger, Pau the passion and Dany the entertainment. Never thought I would travel halfway across the world to see a band in their home country but next tuesday I'm off to Mexico to be part of that crowd!
The ladies cite My Chemical Romance (MCR) as one of their favorite bands and influences, especially MCR's album, "The Black Parade". They also grew up on a heavy dose of AC/DC. Their parents were big fans and, when they were very young, they used to spend family time eating popcorn and watching AC/DC concert videos, among concert videos of Queen, Pink Floyd, The Killers, Muse, Elton John and Billy Joel. They were and are VERY heavily influenced by Classic Rock.
Excellent reaction. You picked up on the kinds of things they do that make their arrangements more interesting than some people give them credit for. As you’ll see, they really shine in their inventive vocal arrangements.
Dull Knives was played on a charity Live stream back in 2019 with Danny Wimmer Presents. Matt Pinfield and Allison Hagendorf was the hosts. They was in California, and The Warning was in their home studio in Monterrey Mexico, affectionately named The Warning Cave. In the chat for the stream, Lzzy Hale of Halestorm saw them and said she wants them to open for her band on tour someday. Well, in 2022, They did indeed join Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, and Lilith Czar for two Tours that year all across the USA. Summer Tour, and Fall tour. I went to both, and to this day, the best concerts I have ever been to! Please check out the older content too. It's all bad azz. ⚡
Great job covering The Warning. "Evolve" from MTV VMAs is a Power House to react to. You need to check out The exceptional version of Dull Knives from the Cave.
They listen to various genres of music, classical, K- pop, J rock, classic rock etc. so they have many influences that they incorporate into their music but it is uniquely the Warning.
Ale and Pau said they spent countless hours of practice learning to play in sync. Pau said she would stare at Ale's fingers as they played. Now, if you watch Pau, you can see how she moves to Ale's baselines as she plays.
These two songs were written by teenagers in Mexico 8 years ago. They tweak them every tour and keep them fresh. For their latest work, look for S!CK, Hell You Call a Dream, or Que Mas Queries from this show.
You nailed one of their superpowers: they are very deliberate in their songwriting. They don't really get into big flashy solos, but rather focus on what the song needs, they feel to me like they write and play without ego. They are excellent at ramping things up or changing things subtly to keep it interesting. The next songs that are typically 'must watches' would be Evolve (either VMAs or Pepsi Center), Disciple (Pepsi Center or Teatro Metro), or Survive (Teatro Metro or Pepsi Center). A couple of other great songs that are a little change of pace might be Queen of the Murder Scene at Teatro Metro (a harder/metal side of rock), More at either Pepsi Center or the VMAs (a more pop-funky type of rock), or maybe Sharks (Pol'And rock?) that might scratch your early 2000s-sound itch.
Your first two reactions are from Queen of the Murder Scene, released back in 2018, when the girls were 17, 15 and 13 years old. Your reactions are from when they were , You haven't listened to any of their newer releases, the Error album released in 2022 (but actually written in 2020 during Covid) or the Keep Me Fed album, released in June 2024. If you think their writing and arrangements for Dust to Dust and Dull Knives are good, I can't wait for you to get into their newer discography. Their performance skills are even better.
If you think the vocals are solid on these songs, wait till you hear "Hell You Call a Dream", Dany (the lead singer) has a really pretty and incredible voice 🤘🏻
The Warning have been my favorite band now for nearly ten years, just seeing how much joy they have in playing and their talent as well as being such nice people off stage as well makes them stand out among others, plus all of their music is great. However, if you would like to react to a couple of other new and up coming bands who have been inspired by The Warning, then may I suggest Freeze The Fall. A Canadian trio of high school students who really know how to rock. Start with their song VHS and then move onto any of the songs from their debut EP Thrones, like Broken Glass, Daughters of Witches or One left Standing. Another band trying to make their way are twins from Spain, Neyla. They are only fourteen years old, but have some real talent and any exposure could help them gain momentum and notice. Start with their song Last Pawn. I doubt you will be disappointed with either band. Currently Neyla only have drums and Bass, with their dad filling in on guitar, they are still looking for a third member, but I think they have what it takes to go places.
Check out the song Escapism from the Keep Me Fed album. Lyric video only but the tempo and lyrics are intense. One of my favorite songs. ⚡🤘 Oh dangit. Sick! is also a pretty jazzy number too.
I'm kind of an independent contractor for The Warning Army, and your splitting it into two videos is totally fine. They are two separate songs, typically not linked (songs 1 and 9 on the concept album, Queen of the Murder Scene), and there isn't much of a transition in this performance, in all honesty. Dust2Dust has an outro, which is fun, but there is a complete stoppage between the two tunes. So, long-way around, you didn't miss anything except momentum between the two pieces in how they presented it in the concert.
Fun facts: DPA are fans of My Chem, Muse, AC/DC etc. When they were putting the "Queen of the Murder Scene" together Paulina describes as taking the "K-Pop / Emo express" in their song writing, as Paulina says she was in her K-Pop and Emo phase. She also says this album says, "I'm angsty now" which gives it the rock / punk sound as opposed to the songs from their first album, "XXI Century Blood." I suggest you watch their performance of "Queen of the Murder Scene" from the Teatro Metropolitan concert. It is among their heavier songs. It is in Bb and drop D tuning and has a very dissonant sound with off tempo drum patterns which add to the dissonant sound and intense vocals and of course driving bass lines and several stops and starts. ua-cam.com/video/Z26GyuRArYQ/v-deo.htmlsi=eutmcACEpIKHJzeo On August 15, 2020 DPA performed "Dull Knives" from their home studio, "The Warning Cave", for the DeTour virtual charity concert during the pandemic. After seeing their performance Lzzy Hale contacted them on SM and invited them to tour with Halestorm when the pandemic restrictions ended. In 2022 TW toured with Halestorm for 38 shows and again 9 shows in Canada with Evanescence in 2024.
For a power trio to work, everyone must be well complemented and know how to fill the different spaces that are created in the songs, otherwise they do not work as a group. Even though there are some sampled guitars, 90% of their live performance is the protagonism of the three sisters.
hahahahaa wait till you hear hell you call a dream from this same concert. all their transitions have a small litttle differences, even small differences in the chorus s from one to the next. best composition in rock
You are right, Kelley, when you say that the bass fills the spaces, but so do the drums. Both Alejandra and Paulina are not “minimalist” performers, and that is why they fill any space.
You know, it is curious that when a reactor notices some similarities of TW with other bands, in this case my chemical romance, turns out to be there a real connection with them in one way or another, you know?.. I mean, yesterday morning I saw a reaction of them in an interview from 2022 done in a record store in LA, and when talking about other bands they like, Dany mentioned MQR, they love the band. It's funny that Ive seen maybe like 10 different references as yours, and for some reason, there's always a relation with those other band they mention. It may happen all the time with any band, but never noticed it until I follow TW. Graet reaction, I enjoyed it.
The Warning doesn't do the same song over and over. They may be hard rock, metal, grunge, punk, even some stuff that goes off into new wave and nu metal and one that veers close to pop rock. And they even throw in some k-pop elements.
Why would you split this great performance into two reactions? That is one of the best transitions you'll ever see. Disappointing my friend. Very disappointing.
As promised!!! The Warning "Dull Knives" !!

We are We're polite too ... Ale is a human metronome PS you should check out the version done in their practice room known as The Warning cave De tour
If you think the vocals are solid on these songs, wait till you hear "Hell You Call a Dream", Dany (the lead singer) has a really pretty and incredible voice 🤘🏻
Awesome! "Z" or if you prefer, "Zed" next? It was the show opener to this concert at Pepsi Center CDMX and has a punk rock sound.
🤘🏻⚡️🔥
Oh dangit. Sick! is also a pretty jazzy number too.
As a special forces soldier in the Warning Army I approve this battle assessment.
She also says this album says, "I'm angsty now" which gives it the rock / punk sound as opposed to the songs from their first album, "XXI Century Blood."
I suggest you watch their performance of "Queen of the Murder Scene" from the Teatro Metropolitan concert. It is among their heavier songs. It is in Bb and drop D tuning and has a very dissonant sound with off tempo drum patterns which add to the dissonant sound and intense vocals and of course driving bass lines and several stops and starts.

On August 15, 2020 DPA performed "Dull Knives" from their home studio, "The Warning Cave", for the DeTour virtual charity concert during the pandemic. After seeing their performance Lzzy Hale contacted them on SM and invited them to tour with Halestorm when the pandemic restrictions ended. In 2022 TW toured with Halestorm for 38 shows and again 9 shows in Canada with Evanescence in 2024.
This song is their masterpiece. The Mona Lisa of rock songs, as it is simply perfect. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
For a power trio to work, everyone must be well complemented and know how to fill the different spaces that are created in the songs, otherwise they do not work as a group. Even though there are some sampled guitars, 90% of their live performance is the protagonism of the three sisters.
🤘⚡❤
😍🤩
The Warning Play Music that sounds very familiar while also sounding like nothing you've ever heard before. My $.02 😎
subs for you! TWA rules!
The power trio depends on the bassist to often do what the rhythm guitarists would do
hahahahaa wait till you hear hell you call a dream from this same concert. all their transitions have a small litttle differences, even small differences in the chorus s from one to the next. best composition in rock
TW🙏
So true!! Love the diversity of sounds.
WTF why is their video slowed down??
Something very different to check out would be Heilung (Anoana is pretty short and a good start. Live and OMV are both great.
Why would you split this great performance into two reactions? That is one of the best transitions you'll ever see. Disappointing my friend. Very disappointing.
