I wondered about that I planted the hardneck variety last fall and enjoying my scapes now in fact I need to go out and cut more today. I have been mixing mine with softened butter and freezing to use later ( I know you can't have butter but for those looking for ideas this is a alternative choice). I also shared some of that with my neighbors. Anna In Ohio
I'm in Florida and knew it was an accident as I would have been planting hard neck if I could down here so I could get scapes. Never had them and would love to try it. Your pesto was so easy! My granddaughter is allergic to nuts and I made some using hulled pumpkin seeds and she said that it was fine so with your quick recipe and after buying some of the freezer trays, I can give her all she wants using basil which grows like a wwed down here..
We rent our fields out to a potato farmer and we receive a 50 lb bag of potatoes as well as rent. There is just two of us so potatoes were starting to sprout in march so I canned quite a few pints of the potatoes. I will do that again. Made pot pies, soups, home fries, mashed potatoes and breakfast casseroles. I will now do this every year. Game changer!!!!!
I saw a woman on UA-cam who uses her canned potatoes to make potato salad. I think Jessica does this too if I remember correctly. A great way to use them up and save time for picnics or potlucks ❤
Hi Jessica I live in Romania ,in a big city, you motivated me to grow some veggies in my balcony. I have planted parsley, oregano, basil and five plants of chilli pepper. Thanks for your advice. Have a wonderful week 😊.
Jessica, Another good idea too is to take the freeze dried flower petals and have Grace and Elizabeth make sachet packets for their clothing drawers or for gifts for MOM (hint!) and family and friends. If the petals are already fragrant, I leave as is - if not, I add a little essential oils and pack in little “envelopes” made out of cheesecloth. Two squares of cloth - your choice of the size - sew up the 3 sides- turn inside out to have clean or finished sides, fill with beautiful flower petals, and sew last - fourth side by hand or machine. They can even decorate pieces of cloth with designs using markers before they are sewn together! My granddaughters love this craft! Have fun! Love and blessings! ❤
I’m pretty sure one of Jessica’s girls is really interested in things like that, I’m sure I’ve seen one working at a sewing machine before but my memory is awful as to if it’s Grace or Elizabeth x
Good morning, Jessica. I hope Adam enjoys his Father's Day. LOVE the deck!! You must be SO happy to have a deck back. I'm picturing lots of good meals and fun times out there. Enjoy your week.
Such a joy to visit with you every Sunday. Gardening has been difficult in SE Texas as we has been dredged with daily rain and have a tropical storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico and next week for the entire week will be thunderstorms. Sad for my little garden but know the rain is needed. I do suffer a bit of envy watching your lush garden producing. Love those purple mouthed boys enjoying their berries. Have a blessed week.
Loved watching Hannah climb up on the picnic table to join her siblings in some nice conversation. What a special childhood they all get to experience. I only had one child, she is 32 now. She has never said she didn't like being an only child, but how could you not want to have lots of loving siblings around?
Good afternoon my dear friend, this was a fun video! Loving the new deck, how nice to have all that extra space, it will be put to good use!! Happy Father's Day to Adam, wishing you a blessed week!!
Happy Father’s Day to Adam. The garden is growing so fast. Looks wonderful. Cant wait to see what and how you preserve it this year. God bless everyone. 🙏🏻✝️💜
Jessica i was just on vacay last month in your state of Ohio also Indiana and Kentucky..Have to say there is no lack of water there..those states are so lush and green..I am from California and was so impressed with no trash, graffiti or homeless there! I come back to California and bang..Trash, Graffiti and Homeless! Sad for Cali..
I’m in East central Indiana and thank you! I’ve heard from other people how nice and green we are! A friend of mine comes to visit every year from South Dakota and she always talks about how beautiful and green we are!!!
I giggled at Hannah climbing up the bench, wow time sure flies. Happy Father's Day to Adam! We are missing our Man. He works away from home 2 weeks at a time. We are so thankful of his hard work 💞 How awesome the deck is finished just in time for summer!!! Way to go! 🎉
Blessed Sunday, Jessica! The deck looks wonderful- enjoy it in good health and I pray you feel better! My Korean cherry bush finally produced cherries and the birds didn’t eat them! I cooked them down to make jelly but didn’t add enough lemon juice by accident, never jelled with Pomona’s pectin, so redid it by adding a little sugar, more lemon juice and cooking it down. Now, it’s REALLY jelled so will be melting it down a bit and using to frost a cake! I did call Pomona’s and they called me back and were wonderful assisting me and we had a good laugh! Have a very Blessed week you and all!
Always a Blessing waking up to your videos 🙌🏼 🙏🏼 🤍 😌 🙋🏼♀️ Just got done My Morning 🌄 Homestead/Farm Chores 🏡 📃 grabbed my coffee ☕ and now watching your video 😌💗 Today is our youngest daughter's birthday ♥ 🥳 🎂 So I'm drinking my coffee, watching your video and waiting for our little birthday princess 👸🏼 to wake up and get her birthday started ♥ 🤗 I'm in my kitchen baking up a storm and always love having you in my kitchen with me [via your videos 😊]. Good morning to all of you and Happy Father's Day to Adam! Congrtats on your new deck! What a lovely addition to your farmhouse. It's beautiful and so useful. I hope you all have a wondrful blessed week ahead. 💙💙💙
Your new deck is a treat for all of you and made with precision! Thank you for all the good information and your Azure experience. Happy Father's Day to Mister Adam. God Bless all of you!
I completely agree that you shouldn't have had to pay full price for potatoes that are sprouting. I just got 35 pounds of assorted organic potatoes at just $10, because they are beginning to sprout. I did spend 2 days canning them all, but it was great to have my potatoes restocked for the year, at a discounted price.
Having the bonus scapes from discarded bulbs is nice. I like to make garlic scape butter and freeze it into pucks like you do with your garlic. We love it with so many things. Your pesto looks yummy!
Hi! Archery Coach here, quick tip: the arrow goes on the other side of the bow, above the bow hand. The arrow will stay on easier and sweet little Miss won't have to shoot off her hand if she tries it this way! So cute 🎯 😊🎉
What a super space outside and how lovely to be able to be outside. In the NW of the UK we’ve had a very cold, wet spring and start to summer. High temperatures seem a long way away or never to happen. I’d be really interested in seeing how you can potatoes if you haven’t already done a video on that. Our potatoes from this year will soon be ready to harvest and ways to make them last longer are always welcome. Have a good week. Thank you.
I used to organize co-op orders from Azure Standard back in the 90s when I lived in Alaska. I wish I could still order from them now but they don’t ship to Ecuador.
Thank you for sharing. I made garlic scape pesto last week with my first harvest and used it as sauce on pizza. It was so good. I plan on making it again. I also like to dehydrate the scapes and grind them up to use as I would garlic powder. Have a great weekend.
Happy Sunday Everyone!! 🙌🏾 Happy Father's Day Adam 🏅 Another Great and informative video as Always Jessica🥳 Have A Blessed Week Everyone🙏🏾 Much Love From Okc ❤
I love garlic scapes! I fermented some along with carrots. I took it down to my son😊 he has stomach issues, so I enjoy making him sourdough bread, and many types of fermented. Cabbage is next for saurekrut. They all have jobs and animals, a huge garden, so Grammy helps out with healthy foods for their tummy health 😊 Chocolate mint tea is fabulous. I add some lemon balm, raspberry leaves, to this tea. 😋

Calendula: when my kids were in diapers, my friend sent me a homemade salve made from calendula from a neighbor of hers in Israel. It was magical on a diaper rash! I understand it is great for all kinds of skin issues. The neighbor moved away, alas. But I found a recipe for a calendula salve in a book. Let me know if you want it and I will write it out for you. I've never made it myself, as I am just a city-girl, homesteading-fan only.

I am single and a senior but I started using Azure to access products I like to use and have on hand in my pantry. One of those things is buckwheat, for example. I use it more often than rice in bowls. I grew up on buckwheat and love it. No longer does Bob's Red Mill carry it in their bulk foods. Jessica, have you ever cooked your broccoli stocks until tender? I’ve also read that you can cook the big broccoli leaves with bacon and white wine vinegar for a cooked green side dish.
I said it backwards in the video. It's hard neck garlic that produces scapes and soft neck that is better for storage. Sorry about the mix up!

Jessica, have you ever cooked your broccoli stocks until tender? I’ve also read that you can cook the big broccoli leaves with bacon and white wine vinegar for a cooked green side dish.
The garlic scape comes from Hardneck Garlics. I believe you misspoke and said they come from soft neck varieties.
