  • I took a long overdue trip to the water recently to do some kayak fishing - The kayak of course had to be my Viking Kayaks Reload simply because it's such a super kayak to fish from and of course to make the most out of the session and practically double my time fishing I just had to bring the Bixpy Jet - It turned out a thoroughly enjoyable afternoons fishing on a glorious day in great company - there were plenty of fish too !! Here's a video of my exploits for the day and if it tempts you to have a go at some kayak fishing then that's great - a fabulously relaxing and sociable pastime that most definitely helps to give an appreciation of our environment.

Thanks John, the weather that day was amazing and the fish were biting so it was definitely a day to remember ! Yes I'm having a great time with the Jet, very happy with it allowing for completely hands free fishing and it's so easy to set up and use.

Hi Darren How much trouble is it to install the Bixpy and then take it off at the end of the day? How does the performance compare to your trolling motor set up? Thanks

Hi Mal, I have the Bixpy Jet permanently attached to the rudder blade so to set it up I simply - drop the rudder pin into the stock and secure with r-clip - pass the uphaul cord through 2 D-rings up to the seating area - secure the battery in the tank well - the whole procedure only takes about 2 minutes - I also leave the battery permanently attached to the motor as this saves on risk of damaging connectors constantly remating - the Bixpy gives me at least 10 hrs slow speed hands free trolling and it's super light weight compared to a traditional trolling motor set up with leisure battery - you can check out how easy it is to rig on this video - ua-cam.com/video/B4__HUHRGDc/v-deo.html - hope this helps :-)

Darren I'm looking into a Profish Reload but with a bad elbow I will be wanting to add a motor. I would love your thoughts on the Bixpy compared to the Torqueedo.

Hi Jerry, very nice kayak choice :-) re the motors I would say just ask yourself what you will mostly be doing - if you think your main goal is covering distances and often against winds and tides then I would lean towards the Torqeedo as it has more torque to push through those conditions - if on the other hand you think you will be travelling at slower speeds in calmer conditions then the Bixpy is very hard to beat, I have to say that I just love my own one, particularly for slow speed trolling for fish - it is very easy to rig, is super quiet and I like the clutter free deck the bluetooth remote offers....hope this helps :-)

@@darrenskayaks6463 I appreciate the feedback. At times I'll be in some choppy waters and current but for 95% of where I fish I'll be in lakes and bays. I try to avoid being in rough water if possible. I might be on the water 6-8 hours on a full day of fishing. Most of the time I would be using the motor maybe half that time. I'd like to be able to cruise at 3-4 mph. Sounds like the Bixpy would handle that load?

Hi Jerry, for slow speed trolling of around 1 to 2 mph you will get approximately 10 hrs from the Bixpy and at speeds of around 4 to 5 mph you will get approximately 4 hrs......so if going by your assumption that you will be motoring for around 4 hrs in total on a day trip and that time will be spent between slow speed trolling and half speed cruising then it sounds like the Bixpy Jet would do the job fine for you.......hope this helps :-)
