  • To the surprise of many, a spectacular event filled the southwestern sky tonight as a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was launched from Vandenberg Air Force base at 5:27pm Pacific Standard Time. These dusk launches can be quite a sight, and this event was no exception. For those of us that knew it was coming it was a great show. For anyone caught by surprise it may have looked like a Nuke from North Korea! Fortunately this rocket was only carrying 10 Iridium satellites, which are part of a new 75-satellite network that will provide massive global bandwidth for mobile communications as well as other functions (such as tracking aircraft and ships at sea to help avoid collisions, etc.).
    Images were filmed with a tripod-mounted Canon 5D Mk2 using a 17-40mm f/4.0L lens and 4-second exposures at ISO 800.
The soundtrack is "Preparing for Launch" from the "Mission Control" CD by Technician (yours truly), MP3 album and single track available on iTunes at: itunes.apple.com/us/album/mis... full artist discography and CDs available at HTTP://technician.jcmdi.com
Contains JCMDI video catalog #s: V23174,V23175

That's exactly what I saw here in LA CA. Thanks for the repeat with info. Also thankful for the internet when I saw this. Confirmation we would all be OK. Surreal.

There is another launch scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 6:17 a.m. PST. This upcoming one has been rescheduled several times but if it goes up as planned, the pre-sunrise light show could be another spectacular one worth getting up early for. Most if not all of the Vandenberg AF Base rocket launches are visible from the Los Angeles area. You can monitor the launch schedules here: www.vandenberg.af.mil/ Thanks for watching and commenting! =)

Great Video! Looks awesome on my new 4k TV... Where about was your location that you filmed this from? You had such a great view !

Cool that you were able to watch it on a big, high-res TV! This was filmed from Santa Clarita, CA. I wish I had remembered the launch schedule sooner - there are much better vantage points in the area. By the time I thought of it I had only 20 minutes to prepare, so I was barely able to make it to the street and set up in time. There were trees in the way so I completely missed the first part of the launch. Anyway, thanks a bunch for watching and commenting! =)

awesome, maybe you are the one to solve the flat Earth riddle lol

Thanks for the view and comment =) .. Yea, I looked at a LOT of different flat Earth models and documentaries but most of them draw some pretty silly conclusions about some things without valid/provable documentation. One thing NONE of them can fit into a flat Earth model is the midnight sun inside the arctic circle in mid summer while observers at the equator see the sun travel east-to-west, more-or-less overhead. Still, it's fun to muse!
