I just did 16.5 hrs of a forklift this weekend, doing load in, load at Arrowhead stadium with the Taylor Swift tour staging crew. First extended time on a forklift in 20 YEARS. This video helped. Got my brain RE oriented. Ha
Driving a forklift isn't hard at all. I currently drive a sit down clamp truck, and double fork. My trainer was very patient and made sure I knew everything before releasing me. I didn't have a trainer at my last job. I ended up failing, but I was bless with a better job. I started off as a temp, and now I'm going full time this week. Edit: I can now drive a standup forklift(its not a reach truck),reach truck, a standup clamp truck, a walkie and OP. I also work for a new company.😀
@@theloniouszappa it's pretty good. I'm working at a warehouse that just turned a year old this month so my pay will eventually increase the longer I stay.

My father drove truck by trade his entire adult life so, for me, working a similar role in the same industry would come naturally & easy for me. However, I entered the workforce as a young teen in the restaurant industry instead, though. Working my way up from entry level teen busboy/dshwshr to prep, line cook. I would eventually move up the ladder to the kitchen lead cook and then as Chef. All phases incl. server, bartender to various levels of kitchen & restaurant mgmt. over the course of 35 years. About half of those years, I've worked as a forklift operator, loading pallets, drums, bins, etc. for different manufacturing plants & inť l shipping warehouse companies. I started my first warehouse job learning forklift at 18 yrs old when my dad helped me get a job at one of the companies he used to make freight pickups & deliveries to. My point is, I've had both trades to fall back on, when I get burned out on one of them. I'll switch back to the other, around every 6-8 years or so. I happen to be in the middle if one of those transitions right now. I'm going back to operating forklift again starting on this next Tuesday. I like both fields & love the fact that I'm highly skilled in both industries, as it allows me to always enjoy going to work every day w/o getting burned out at either job type. I may or may not go back to being a Chef again in about 6 or 8 yrs from now...we'll see. @@m.c.ruckus2032 thats cool you can do that. 👍 i was a jockey back in the day but cant fall back on that anymore but i can do paving and landscaping if i need a change
Lights, levers, steering wheels, you get the idea. Knowing what the levers do would be nice, one raises and lowers the fork, another pushes it in and out, another must be forward and reverse
Idk if you saw it, but to the left of the steering wheel there was a lever for 'forward' and 'reverse.' The levers to the right of the steering wheel, starting with the one closest to the wheel, was to raise/lower the lift, the next one was the angle or pitch of the forks(raising or lowering the ends of the forks so they pitch up or down). I can only guess, since he didn't appear to use the 3rd or 4th levers, but I'd imagine the 3rd is for side shifting(where you slide the forks left of right). Not sure what the 4th one does... although on another youtube video they say it's to space out the forks(i.e. move them apart, or together). Although, it could be possible for extending the forks out, but idk how likely that is since I've never seen a sit down with extendable forks.
What would be nice is going to an actual course to learn about forklifts, watching videos on youtube does not teach you anything, there is more than just driving a forklift to think about, you need to know safety, what to do in different situations, how to check on maintenence on the forklift, know what it can carry and not and so on.
This video is really good. I paid for forklift training in Brisbane, Australia, and the instructor was so awful I considered walking out and paying take a class another place. It's great to be able to watch a pro on UA-cam.
It's just kinda cool watching other people do it on different lifts and environemnts. Like I drive an electric one in a recycling center environment and I've always wondered what gas lifts or straight warehouse is like.
It's an old video but wth, I'll mention it anyway. That button on the second lever (from the left), your pitch lever, is to straighten your forks to true straight. That way there's no guesswork. You just tilt your forks all the way back, and as you tilt them back to the forward position, you keep your finger on that button. It will stop the forks when they are straight. It won't go any further when holding the button, so when it stops, that's when you know the forks are level. ✌️ Best of luck to anyone new out there. It's easier than you'd think.
I learned this by accident as I spent months wondering what that button was for (I mostly drive Reach or the bigger Hysters so I have limited experience with something like this). I thought I broke something at first until I realized the forks were perfectly level!
As someone with ADHD (or ADD depending on which DSM you're looking at) I must say it looks fun. It gets boring for me in forklift simulators and consruction simulator 2015 has a nice forklift I don't like that much after a while, like it doesn't keep my focus. But in real life that'd be a lot different.. I used to love just driving a toro lawn tractor and couldn't wait to cut the lawn when I was younger... so yeah. Easily amused a bit

Where I live im not required to take classes to become a forklift operator. My boss literally just pulled out a forklift and told me to go at it. 7 months in and Ive only had a single accident, glad that I can make a liveable wage off of doing this. :)
Where is that? And is not about "having to be trained" or not. It's about your safety. Trust me when I say this that people lose their lives because they don't know what their doing. I would still take a class. Go to online.lifttraining.com. take the course. It could save your life.
First time using a forklift. Did a test today and I pass. Did the performance test, and I did OKAY. But I still need to practice more before I even get certified or I say I can able to use it. So I can get comfortable.
I haven't touched a forklift in years and I'm drafting a survey for forklift operators to compare a new model vs the old model. What questions would a daily forklift operator appreciate to be asked about a new model vs an old model? Thanks!
Old forklift are as good as the new ones I prefer the older one than a brand new Toyota, sure there are some thing better but the gas pedal sensitivity is better on older models but its not very different than a newer one
+KHALIFA KUSH yes, most are new. It's cheaper to maintain as they are under warranty that way. The one in this video is new and it's a Toyota counterbalance propane. There are many different makes but all are similar to one another. Before you go for your test, make sure you received professional training from a reputable provider. Good luck!
Didnt lie or anything lmao. Im here because my supervisor told me and another guy “I’m giving yall your forlift test tommorow cause I want to see you win” ….. nice but, the problem is I’ve never used a forklift lol
Hi Sean, That is great you found these videos helpful, But there is a lot more to driving a lift truck than just watching a video. Make sure you receive proper training from a reputable training provider who not only teach you how to operate the equipment, but also give you a theory lessons on the law and how to protect you and others around you. Good luck on your test!
We have 15 minutes to unload a truck. I spend way too much time making sure my forks go in without puncturing the product. Other drivers go in, pick their pallet, back out, and park it in seconds. I take minutes 😭😭😭. Ive always driven standup trucks where we extend our forks and then pick up the pallet. I think it's a psychological thing. I get nervous when the truck is so close to product 🤦🏽♀️. I talk to myself out load and say...come on dummy just pick up the damn pallet 🤣

Currently have a busted ass 1998 Clark propane powered forklift at my job. Mostly use it to push semi trucks and other vehicles with compromised engines. The propane valve leaks. The hydraulic lines are leaking, the back rest is gone. The horn and lights don't work. No backup alarm. Have to adjust the forks manually. Just threw a starter in it last year the ring gear is fucking toast. Haven't changed the oil on it in about 3 years according to my company. The Guages do not work and the coolant tank stays empty. The wheels wobble and should have been replaced 10 years ago. But God damn it keeps on going.
I was trusted to pull the forklift in for the night and there was a zero turn deck on the forks and I hit a door and shattered the window, I've never felt like a complete dumbass. And now its 1:30 am and I'm here
It's strange, on reachers they dont have you tilt back the pallet. I understand this is to prevent from anything falling off but why is this feature not on reachers?
Lmfoa this helps I have a interview tomorrow for a wear house job and they said they need at least 1 year experience lmao ima lie I really need this job
I just remembered that I used to be terrified or forklifts in stores when I was a kid, like up through age 7 maybe or even 8 or 9? They scared me when they'd beep the horn and I didn't know why they were beeping (the reverse beep) - I'd start crying and asking my mother and or father if they were going to run us over. They'd of course assure me the forklift would never do such a thing but I kept it in my mind "Well what if"? What if the forklift driver gets mad and does this? This is probably because I'm autism spectrum, and also because I was abused at the least, psychologically, or emotionally whatever you want to call it, from a young age with borderline personality disorder in my family, mom's side and myself... Holy crap that was cathartic. Thank you for the video. How did you mount the camera in so many places? Or cameras?
Not a dumb question at all. In fact it's something that most people forget to do. Yes, you should always put the lift truck in neutral to prevent accidental movement while lifting or lowering a load. I have seen people fail the job interview because of not doing that.
The right hand controls would throw me right off from the trucks I've trained up on. Fingertip controls make life so much easier. Even if some bastard has limited the speed of the thing to 6mph
I don’t know why people commenting on here are against the guy making the video talking a bit I mean usually how to videos come with a little bit of dialogue sure he shows what he’s doing but obviously speaking as he does things like in any other instructional video would help a bit more

Who lied on their resume and still got the job after watching this? 😂🤣👍💯💯....
Lmao me! 😂 Bout to start a new forklift job tomorrow that’s why I’m here
@@kashteller7466 Lmfao, nice goodluck and best wishes 😂🤣🙏🙏🙏💯💯..
😂😂😂
I’m here after lying in an interview.
Ok
xXlegit_ opsXx ...he lied to secure the job 💯
They don’t make you show them a certification?
Wow so amazing to watch.. I really love to learn to operate that machine and make it as a carrer.
Thanks a lot your helping a lot of people
This was really helpful, thanks.
Im a woman interested in becoming a forklift operator... Do many women join this field.???
CherryAppetite yes, it's very popular for women and becoming more popular with women every day!
yeah I used to work at a warehouse and there was about 6 women using a forklift young and older.
CherryAppetite
Maybe 23, maybe 24. Never can tell these days I guess.
Either way, God is still good and still in charge. Amen? Amen!
Nice video 💯
I kinda fucked up, I lied on my job interview and now I'm here, I start in 48 hours wish me luck.
Really hope you get a good job now
Well?
Hey bro do it properly engage your parking brake when making transitions
this will help, today i have my forklift test.. with ill walk like if i know what im doing
Hope it helps! Good luck.
What i heard about the forklifts in this factory that their are brand new
+KHALIFA KUSH yes, most are new. It's cheaper to maintain as they are under warranty that way. The one in this video is new and it's a Toyota counterbalance propane. There are many different makes but all are similar to one another. Before you go for your test, make sure you received professional training from a reputable provider. Good luck!
I start at FedEx on the 3rd. Just tryna learn some basics lol
Excellent.
i got and interview to work one of these things, im trying to learn how to drive them over youtube videos cuz ive never driven one before
I got it thank you now I know
Thanks for this, high quality video!
The C-5 series of gas loaders are the most enduring gas forklifts with the longest service life. baltic-forklift.prom.ua/g5584715-gazovye-pogruzchiki
Didnt lie or anything lmao. Im here because my supervisor told me and another guy “I’m giving yall your forlift test tommorow cause I want to see you win” ….. nice but, the problem is I’ve never used a forklift lol
pray for me i start operating a forklift at work tomorrow
how did it go ?
@@adrianalvarez8059 i am now certified thank you :D
Just started driving a forklift at work didn't know there was licence
Jordan Cato 😂😂😂
Jordan Cato it isnt..its a certification..not a license
Your individual company may require it. However the state doesn't care as long as you stay off their roads.
@@hood2hood757 its still a license to operate one
You dont even need the certificate to get the job, or to even drive one. I just started working at a warehouse and only 1 person out of 15 has one.
i have my test this wednesday and thursday and i think i already knw what to do thanks youtube lol
1:27 “I wonder if you know, how they live in tokyo! if you see it then you mean it, then you know you have to go”
good video mate!! brazil whatching your videos! tks man
I learned how to operate one right as I started using it.
How u doing NOW??
@@danielletaylor4056 unfortunately I am awaiting surgery on my ankle and out of work. I had gotten to the point where I could grab pallettes in record speed with my eyes closed lol. I miss it so much.
@@MsCoolVibez oh no!! Sorry to hear that. I’m getting certified soon and was trying to get familiar before my test. Looks satisfying
@@danielletaylor4056 aww thank you, these things happen💕 and yes it's very satisfying, just take your time and build your muscle memory. You got this 🤗💪🏽
I was trained that you are to honk when you start moving and change directions. (Also at intersections, rounding blind corners, and going through doorways)
Don't forget to hook more when your boss on the floor....:-)
Very helpful video thanks dear bro
Would be nice if he speaks out, for the newbies, like me. Unless he can't speak, eres mudo?
NICE INTRO
God bless UA-cam lol. I have a driving test tomorrow. They think I have experience hahaha.
How did it go??
I'm literally in a class to get the license eating pizza because of this video
Very cool as a training video. Not doing that inspection shit everyday. I’ve tried. You can’t and you don’t.
I always wanted to learn how to operate a forklift
i didn't lie on my resume. I'm serious on getting a little extra dough and am getting my forklift certificate next week.
I was trusted to pull the forklift in for the night and there was a zero turn deck on the forks and I hit a door and shattered the window, I've never felt like a complete dumbass. And now its 1:30 am and I'm here
Hahahaha oh my lawd I just got hired at amazon warehouse and stupidly volunteered to learn how to drive this thing 🤣🤣 I'm so worried now
It's strange, on reachers they dont have you tilt back the pallet. I understand this is to prevent from anything falling off but why is this feature not on reachers?
On reach trucks you still must tilt back. Every lift truck that has a tilt function (reach does) must secure the load.
Or cameras?
Can you make a video on clamp trucks? Thanks!
How easy is this if you drive a car????
Easy
Very easy to drive
Nice
do you have to put the lift in neutral before loading or unloading a pallet of a rack? Sorry for the dumb question
Not a dumb question at all. In fact it's something that most people forget to do. Yes, you should always put the lift truck in neutral to prevent accidental movement while lifting or lowering a load. I have seen people fail the job interview because of not doing that.
+L.I.F.T. Training - Forklift Training School - #1 Certificate thanks
I gotta get this fucking skid inside and my boss usually does it but he left lmao
didn't lie in interview, have driven multiple types of industrial trucks...now I'm here, I don't know why.
When you lift the fork up. Do you put the emergency brake or press on the brake? Or do I put it in neutral
Always tilt first before you lift a load
The right hand controls would throw me right off from the trucks I've trained up on. Fingertip controls make life so much easier. Even if some bastard has limited the speed of the thing to 6mph
I don’t know why people commenting on here are against the guy making the video talking a bit I mean usually how to videos come with a little bit of dialogue sure he shows what he’s doing but obviously speaking as he does things like in any other instructional video would help a bit more
Got a driving test tomorrow 👍
I can do this easily at a warehouse no problem, but in a tight aisle at Lowes with customers watching, it's tough.
I'm here cause I wanted to get a job doing this seems like fun maybe I'm the only women into doing this I have learned a few things on youtube but I would like to give it a go I don’t like lying if I want to do something I learn it before saying I do. 🙂
