This is a departure from my usual jazz transcriptions, but Back At One is one of my favorite songs and Brian McKnight is a lowkey piano genius :) enjoy! FYI- just a few more hours left on the Summer Sale: www.gondolamusic.com/shop Today's sheet music trivia (first to answer correctly gets PDF): Spot the right-hand chord with the most notes.
The true ones know that Brian McKnight has been GOAT status since, well, forever. Solo live albums rival some of the best live jazz albums (bc it is one).
His solo work for promoting his song in early 2000s are fking legendary, you should listen him playing his own tune, one last cry in South korea,if the video still up, highly recommended
McKnight, mega talented artist. I thought he was just that vocally, but years ago I heard him playing a piano/vocal only version of 'Anytime'; the thing was so damn Jazzy I knew immediately he had the piano chops too.
Used to HATE B Natural (& STILL hate it every now & then)... Came to a point where I constantly had to learn songs that required me to play in B Natural. This forced me to learn how to play in B Natural. The first song that ALWAYS comes to mind (when thinking of all the songs that required me to play in B Natural); "Back At One" lol ❤
Sorry if this is a dumb question (I read chord notations but am self-taught so I could just be ignorant). At 0:25 it looks like the chord notation says G#77. I know it obviously isn’t a G# with the 77th note in the scale on top. Is that a typo or is a #77 actually a thing (like an inversion where you play the 7th on the bottom and top of the chord or something)?
Glad this video is getting the recognition it deserves. I first listened to this recording over 10 years ago and couldn’t believe the level of musicianship. In an ever changing world of pre-recorded beats, autotune, and zero music theory, Brian McKnight is a beacon of hope for us all. If popular music was actually about the quality of music instead of the fame of the artist, the world would be a much better place.
You need page tuning pedal. They work well. They connect via Bluetooth. I'm kind of uncomfortable seen you seating at the piano. I feel my butt and back hurting. A unique interpretation. Never heard it interpreted as such.
sure lots in the classical world, thousands of prodigies! But in the jazz scene there are young players who can creatively voice complex chords in real time that classical musicians can't seem to do
@@NebkadBible You sound like someone that is used to controlling what others say and do. Your gate keeping isn’t required here bro I’ll say whatever the fork I want to say. Move on if you don’t like it
@@poerava He is also saying whatever the fork he wants to say. Move on if you don't like it. And why are you patronizing UA-cam features of an artist you dislike, if I may ask?
@@darelet Two quick points. 1. You seem to not heed your own advice about ‘moving on’ from things you don’t like. 2. You assume I don’t ‘like’ Brian McKnight Do you want to check your own misunderstanding and re consider your comment?
Well, I was expecting him to swing it or something. He may be a genius as asserted in many comments but for me this is kind of soggy and awful. Why not pick up the tempo and get out of emo mode, show a sense of humor? The sentimentality here is cloying. The lyrics are as corny as a 1970s Hallmark card's, without evidence of wit or self-awareness or perspective. The vocal is warbling and whiny and begging to be parodied. It's like Benson Boone before Benson Boone. Or maybe Louis Capaldi is a more apt comparison. Is there a 20th century jazz great who would think this is good music? In a way, this is like the early 1920s sentimental music that Louis Armstrong reacted against, the musical equivalent of a warm Snickers bar on a summer day in Miami.
This is so much better than the studio version, which is so cheesy and cringeworthy. It is so bad that I didn't even know he was talented (besides having a good voice or whatever, which I personally don't even think is the case, since the nasal quality bothers me a lot), let alone this talented.
@@justinb7674 Do you want me to say he's Jesus reincarnated? People, especially successful people, can and should be criticized. I really enjoyed this version, I think it's amazing and shows he's incredibly talented; I'm not destroying him with words.

I saw Brian McKnight knock down 9 threes and throw the go ahead game winning lob to his son in a game at Venice Beach. Dude is multi-talented man
Years ago I saw him play in the NBA-E League. He's very talented
i had 50 that day if i remember correctly
He's also incredible on guitar.
this is absolutely incredible. I'm ready to make it an official jazz standard at this point

Do yourself a favor, Google "Brian McKnight Justin Timberlake Wayne Brady"
That INTRO!!!
wow, I had no idea he could play that well
My favorite solo male vocalist.
I am such a fan of tasteful use of the Aeolian mode/scale. And man did he use it tastefully.
Churchy chord changes😀🔥🎶🎶🎶
Hell yeah
Everyone got started in church lol
No words, just from heaven
This is some solid piano playing and chord voicings. Thanks for sharing this!
Always loved and respected his music and talent ♥️♥️♥️✊🏿‼️
What?!? No vocal score? Jk, this is top tier composing, playing, singing AND of course, transcribing! More R&B transcriptions pls!

I think notating a B# would be more appropriate instead of a C natural. It functions as a secondary dominant of the supertonic.
素敵な声とピアノ演奏ですね~👍👍👍👍
incredible
ooh. this rendition hits different.
ICON.
Omg. The Sirius XM version though…. I’d like to see that genius transcribed … please……. lol
My u cake Melvin Ragin aka Wah Wah Watson played guitar on Brian’s first single Is This The Way Love Goes! RIP to Wah Wah Watson!!!!

the Grammy's so wrong not to award him with anything..
