I've been playing in pits since I was 14 in 1978 as a trial by fire. I started switching with Alto sax (my normal horn) and then Bb clarinet and Bass Clarinet. I'm just getting back into it now. Thank you for this video! I can now show normal folks what I mean!
Such versatility, I almost expected, at the critical moment, you to throw a "sandy" carpet on and jump onto the stage barking (perfect articulation and pitch of course!). But seriously, magnificently performed, wonderful musicianship!!! Really dazzling!!
When doing shows on Maui with limited budget I would be given 2 or 3 multiple wind books and try to discern after first rehearsal what most important parts were and sometimes bring 6 or 7 instruments to the show-I wasn't bored (-:
Thanks for listening! I did- I majored in music education and saxophone performance in college, and went on to graduate school to pursue a degree in multiple woodwind performance. Reed players are required to double in almost every show, so it is important to be well rounded on all woodwind instruments and to be able to play all different styles of music! :)
Hi David! I believe there were 10 of us in the band. 3 Reeds, 2 Strings, 2 Brass, 2 Keys, 1 Drummer. The Reed players doubled on different flutes, clarinets and saxophones and the trombone player also played bass trombone.
casbont Thanks for listening! Reed books in musical theater require doubling so you're in luck if that's what you're interested in doing. I would look up the names of music directors in the area and reach out to them. They are most like involved with many regional theaters and schools and always looking for good woodwind doublers for shows!
Leonard W Hey! I play a Buffet (R-13) and use a RICO reserve mouthpiece and optimum ligature! I recommend trying several different brands and seeing what works best for you!
Sebastian Martinez Hey! The way I got the bend from the D#-E was by slowly sliding my right ring finger off of the D key (keeping right pinky down) and by changing my embouchure from slightly loose to firm. Hope that helps! Let me know how it works out for you :)
Erika, I can seriously listen to you play all day. You are so amazing on all those woodwinds. Such an iconic score. You shine!!
Your doubling is outstanding. Beautiful work!!!

As Reed doublers, I think it’s safe to say that we never get bored! Sounds like you must have been playing non-stop if you were covering 2 or 3 books!
@@erikafriedmanmusicYou Bet , I didn't even need a "warmer" to keep instruments in tune in cold AC (-:
Wow this is awesome! I’m a junior in high school and would love to do this one day, what did you major in, in college? Performance?

Erika Friedman awesome! Thank you so much for the advice!
Nice!
Hey just a quick question how big was your band and who was playing/how many doubling?

Sounds nice Erika! Any advice for a someone trying to get into a first gig? I play single reeds and flute.

What's your soprano clarinet setup? Do I need to invest in a Buffet or something?

Hi what brand Bari sax stand are you using.
Mr. Josh SaxMan Hi! I use “On Stage Stands” for Bari!
How do you bend the Note at 3:29?!! I play that solo and I want to bend that note.
Sebastian Martinez Hey! The way I got the bend from the D#-E was by slowly sliding my right ring finger off of the D key (keeping right pinky down) and by changing my embouchure from slightly loose to firm. Hope that helps! Let me know how it works out for you :)
I was also in love with that!
