You got a lot done in the hours you had to work! The shelter is looking good, I sure hope you don’t have to stay in it for very long but as well built as you made it you should stay safe and dry! Keeping y’all in my prayers! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️💙❣️
I'd be tempted to get some temporary gutters up... Maybe some dwv pipe cut in half, screwed to the fascia. Could at least let you control where the water goes
I understand the need to prep for a hurricane...last year we had two hit us pretty much dead on...back-to-back about two weeks apart...no power for days...then for days again.
How high above sea level is the bunker? Flooding for me is not really possible but then I am more then 5,000 feet above sea level here in AZ but have to deal with dry air as the humidity is only 20%. If you don't mind digging a 10 or so foot deep trench in the yard you can give basic AC/humidity control to the bunker using just a small solar panel to run it. A long loop of pipe down 10+ feet will quickly cool off the water/coolant inside the pipe and work really well if into the ground water so you just need a car radiator inside the building with a fan and circulation pump to have 50-60F water filling the radiator letting you blow cool air and to condense the humidity out of the air. Yes not as good as a compressor driven heat pump but those can be power hungry where this is just an emergency keep the shelter from becoming really bad.
I love the scaffold setup on the tractor… you are definitely well setup down there. That storm shelter looks cozy…and when momma gets mad at ya your dog house has a comfy couch. Stay safe down there…hopefully Elsa doesn’t pay a visit..
Hi Andrew n Tiffany n Bullet I hope everything goes smooth with the tornado. B safe n take care 2u all who r in this situation. From Australia down under
You did a good job of preparing for the storm buddy. I'm glad you're doing what you doing cuz you can never tell what the storms is going to do. I hope and pray it doesn't be too bad cuz I'm about to head that way in about a half an hour. You and Tiffany Stay safe man.
@@TKCL It finally stopped raining here. We got water out in the barn and parts of the back of our property to our knees! There's a creek a few acres back behind our property line so I'm guessing it overflowed. Definitely time to move lol.
Andrew, keeping you & your family in our prayers as you weather the storms of Elsa! You’ve done some great prep work it seems. (Of course we’re in the Midwest [Missouri]!) You could give some great prep advice to another channel we watch: What the Hales. He’s moved to FL from Ohio & is really freaking out in this storm. Not even sure where he is from your location but that boy needs LOTS of hurricane advice! Lol. God bless & protect you all.
@@TKCL Thankful for that! We experienced 2 typhoons in Okinawa 3 years ago when visiting our son. I never really felt afraid! Don’t know why but guess I just figured their buildings were meant to withstand those storms as is yours mostly.
Hello, I've just started watching your videos about a week ago. I was curious as why the storm shelter seems a far distance from your home?? I've enjoyed the ice maker/freezer you made. good job. It seems as if you have and are doing a lot of work by yourself, WOW.. Ah, to be young again and be able to do what you are doing. All the best to you. 🤩🤩🤩
The shelter was built well before the house and was placed as a best guess for location and curb appeal. Most of its use will be hurricanes, so we get plenty of notice for those. Distance won't be much of a problem in that scenario. Thanks for watching
It seems with that type of soil that you are going to be fighting a constant battle against erosion. It may be worth the money that you are invensting into the polebarn house to do some significant work on the soil around the house. Something as "least expensive" as digging out a lot of soil and then replacing it with rock and a significant french drain system with dry wells to outright putting in a external foundation footer down deep to stouter soil to underpin your slab. Of course I am a random youtube observer, so my best suggestion is to consult a engineer.
I do have plans for building the soil up, grass is my best friend for holding soil down. I do not want to invest in the yard until the house is done for fear of destroying everything.
Prayers, you guys stay safe and sound and no damage. If that metal had been on the ground here in north Alabama there would have been a nasty copper head under there. I’ll take the spider any day
I live in Florida bout 12 or so miles from Orlando. Where r you two located at? Or close too, if you don't want to give exact location. Thanks, BTW I'm new too your yt channel.
Hard to believe our beautiful blue Florida skies can turn angry and produce a hurricane with damaging winds, lighting and way too much rain. Hoping you, family, buildings and property made out okay!
I would remove the sand replace it with gravel, tamp it good then put the sand back on it. The gravel won't wash out as easily. The sand cover won't wash as bad either. No undermining of slabs.
I wish I would’ve thought of that. I always use my tires to find and pick up nails. Using a rake is a much smarter and better option for sure. 😂 Now the sound is what’s there but with water erosion sound is a horrible option I would definitely try to get some dirt in there later when you have a chance let it get some grass and roots going to hold all that together. That was a problem I was had when I was in Florida, we couldn’t get grass to grow well because the dirt we had was mostly sand anyway and it would dry out every day pretty much and then in the morning it would be nice and wet from the do but it will start browning after just a few hours it was always patchy and thin anyway. I’m guessing it’s harder to get dirt there come out around here there construction places that let you come get free dirt that’s all we have here, and have to go buy expensive sand. Lol

About 100ft above sea level, it's 30ft of elevation change to our first pond.

The one thing being born and raised in Florida is concrete block structure vs stick or metal frame structure because of hurricanes and such
Wood can be unbelievably strong if built correctly. A lot of homes and hotels on the coast out of wood and standing fine. No doubt concrete is strong.

Why on earth would you build a straight up storm shelter? Build on to withstand winds, angled walls for a better structure. Just Asking 🌟😎🌟
We don't get the kinds of winds here that out west sees. This is beyond strong enough for us and it looks like a simple shed in the yard.
