0:43 precisely why I loved them for over 15 years and keep coming back. And new layers unfold every time I listen. I guess it's just a matter of folding time and space :)
After this track I think is where Bedlam really starts to get interesting. I mean obviously it’s great up to this point but they backloaded this album with the best tracks in my opinion. Soothsayer is my favorite off this.
Not sure if it is backloaded or just a jam session that continued to get better with each song. If he thought this song went with the album art then soothsayer and ouroboros will be ingrained in his mind like it is mine.. lol
Disagree, I feel like after this it was sort of a descent into Hell. Like literally, Soothsayer takes over the end of the album and tries to curse you. The tracks Aberinkula, Metratron, and Goliath all have such a rush to them that dissipates into a genuine terror in Askepios's "What have you got for my appetite" is the culmination of it. Anyway, some people think Hell is cool, but I sure don't. I often struggle to listen to the end of the album for that reason too despite loving it as a whole.
It was funny when you were trying to figure out the time signature it was in 4/4, but the section with "you've got that guilty smile...", that part I won't say what the time signature is because it's so fun to figure out, they even give you multiple repeats of it at the end.
Always look forward to this series! I hope you continue with the last 2 albums! They seem to be the least popular but I think they are great! Their overall tone and frantic-ness are toned down quite a bit, but that same unique Mars Volta sound and creativity are unmistakable. Next up on this album is 'Agadez' one of my personal favorites and probably the most common TMV song that gets stuck in my head at the most random times. Cheers Dean, catch you on the next one!
I actually think Dean will love Octahedron, considering he’s such a fan of classic 70s Prog. I think its objectively their least creative album, but its still really good. Noctourniquet on the other hand is just criminally underrated. I think its one of their best.
@@TheAlibabatree I was actually lucky enough to get to see them live in Houston right before Noctourniquet released and they played the full album. Cedric was even singing the lyrics from a notebook he was holding most of the show. Those songs live are even better than the recorded album! I highly recommend checking out their performance of 'The Malkin Jewel' which they followed up with an unreleased track called 'Broken English'. It's mind wonderful ! ua-cam.com/video/AWQTLs00VzU/v-deo.html
Each listen TMV always surprise... Now for me, the best surprises are live TMV tracks.... Yesterday listen televators Live - electric ballroom 2003 - and I can't believe what I'm listen.... The next track this album it's something... Absolutely fresh and Surprise.
There is definitely flute on this. The saxophonist Adrián also plays flute and hand percussion, and I believe he also played bass clarinet on the record. Also as far as the bass effects, Juan uses a shit ton of pedals and even has one of the most popular pedal channels on UA-cam called Pedals and Effects. He's also done a rig rundown. Probably his defining sound comes from the Boss vibrato pedal and that his bass is fretless.
I'd like to congratulate you Dean for now having officially listened to the two most insane, off the wall tracks in their catalogue now, the other being Day of the Baphomets imo
I know they’re not a popular band, but I’d love to see a reaction of Kaskadeur from you. I think it’d be right up your alley. Love all your videos, keep it up
Don’t forget to do “Mr Muggs”! It’s a really creepy short soundscape. Sounds like accordion. It came on a 7” with the vinyl for this album. You will see it when you search. By the way, I gotta tell you man. You’re a king! Absolutely my favorite reaction channel! If you got some shirts or pins made that would be really cool man. Also, what are your favorite 3 bands? I have over 800 vinyls and would love to send you one just for doing all these Mars Volta reactions. I think you like Yes. I have all theirs on first pressings. Give me an email or some way to contact you and we can set it up. Keep the videos coming my friend! This one cheered up my night.
Maybe my least favorite track on the album, but hey it's still crazy Volta music so I won't complain! Next 3 songs are golden though, and they flow into each other so nicely.

We never got to hear it live. big sad.
The rest of the songs are my favourites, both the most experimental and both rocking of the album.
