If we could get Sowell and Peterson together, it will help to cement that there’s no scalable way to get equity or equality of outcome in any natural sample size population, especially not under socialism or communism. The patterns of moral authoritarianism under the smiling guise of populism, (False populism), are well documented.

The idea that higher education is a kind of manners is well observed. Autodidacts avoid the bear traps academia surrounds itself with. I recall the first class of an MA where blue collar me thought the lecturer's questions were genuine, not rhetorical. I hadn't realised the question was posed to illustrate there was only one correct answer, and the tutor would lead us from ignorance - of a subject I knew more than he did.

Stupid politicians are using 'camps' to exploit the feeble minded into believing that they care that politicians care about them the people thus they can just lock up anyone that disagrees with their politics under the guise of quarantine. But dont forget that immigration can kill and Australia is an island and if it was a true out break than the quarantine makes sense. All this is because of bent politicians and mainstream media. I don't know much of her, but I know what I have read (which isn't terribly much) of Quilette was the pieces I came across were rather well balanced. People in the centre, by definition of the Left moving further left are pushed the other way in an opposing view. In this interview, as Peterson did, she said she never considered herself a conservative in it's full. While I don't know her stand on Australian covid camps, I do know you don't have to agree 100% with someone to share a lot of commonality. By definition, all or none is a terrible stance to have in life or politics...by definition, it's polarizing.

On the subject of Leftwing authoritarianism, there actually is one worthwhile book on the matter: 'Roots of Radicalism' by Rothmann and Lichter. The authors are trained in psychoanalysis and sometimes apply highly psychoanalytical frameworks to understand their subjects, but they nonetheless did a descent job at researching the student activist movements of the 1960s and arrived at a basic psychological profile of the Leftwing radical/authoritarian (having to do with often concealed aggressive impulses, a hunger for power, projection of this strong desire for power onto political opponents, and need to 'personalize' the external world into an extension of the self through political transformation). They also discussed the biased nature of the social sciences and how earlier portrayals of the student radical were heavily biased in favor of Leftist radicalism.
Rothmann's and Lichter's book touches upon some very controversial ground as well, but the authors felt like they had no other choice since according their estimates the majority of the student activist group leaders, protest organizers, and the supportive university faculty came from a certain ethnic minority. For this reason the authors took a brief overview of previous waves of radical Leftism in Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and America, documenting the extent to which Communist and Socialist parties in these places were led by members of this ethnic minority (figures ranging from 11% in the German SPD to 80% in the Hungarian Communism of Bela Kun). Thus, properly understanding Leftwing authoritarianism is not possible without examining this angle. The authors furthermore discussed how individuals of this ethnic background in Weimar Germany "created" a Leftwing intellectual movement dedicated to attacking the social norms of the German society and pushing for feminism, "sexual liberation" and such. They tied this to a larger phenomenon, spreading to America in the 1960s, of intellectuals of this ethnicity seeking to demonstrate the "sickness" of the society for the purpose of undermining it. These intellectuals, no matter how estranged from their ethnic heritage, often carried a deep aversion towards the Christian culture of the West, whose light-skinned recipients were all assumed to be evil antisemites and racists. It's a good reading, if you think you can handle such heavy facts and the psychoanalytical babble the authors occasionally engage in.

Tim pool looks at the philosophy but emphasizes the importance of judging individuals based upon the actions they take.
Peterson isn't deeply in touch with the behaviors of many of the people he brings on so he often brings on guests that Tim would press far harder.
I've grown accustom to conducting a more indepth assessment of Petersons guests for this reason, as much as I respect the man, I don't believe he pushes back on his guests or has even done the research to know where to push back. It's not a critique of the man per say, more just that I don't think that's in his wheel house.

Claire is a good example of anti left wing authoritarianism to a degree... understood by her as an individual. Once the levels and root of the authoritarianism extends beyond the understanding you see the same individual in support of the very values once widely fought against.
It's the affect of scientism and the lens that gives to the rational mind concerned primarily with empiricism.
The deeper realms of the spiritual nature of our psychology and religious instincts hide left wing authoritarianism from the rational.

She should have been outraged at the degree of authoritarian actions by the Aussie government but the response to Covid amongst the populace has not been drastically different between the left and right from a citizen's perspective. I left LA in '21, after 6 years living there, to explore the EU. I had had just absolutely enough of it and desperately needed inspiration, along with restored hope for humanity--and simply, for my own life. About two months later, in the middle of Croatia, I stopped off at the tiniest town of 100 people where there's a lone waterfall. This was no where near the coast or in any sense a touristy area, and not at all like the larger national parks. I walked out to the waterfall, off the path from the small road, and there on a tiny stone building, some rubble of the prior '91 Croatian war for indepedence, was graffiti: A.C.A.B. - complete with the periods, confirming it wasn't just some foreign word, but the abbreviation. My heart sank. "Here?! Even, here?!"
Two months later, walking around Turku, Finland, there's more ACAB graffiti on boards put up around some of the city's renovations, along with hammer and sickle and anarchy signs. I just couldn't believe it. Turku was one of the most serene, clean, and peaceful cities I have ever had the fortune to experience, and so I stayed there for three months. And, yet, even there. It's hard to imagine a better place where it's possible to live--perhaps, slightly warmer...anteeksi ;) It's been a year now, living overseas across Croatia, Finland, and the UK. In every place, I found amazing qualities, envied by myself, as an American. One host in Croatia, a working-class family, talked about excitement at the idea of Starbucks--something American, modern, a little self-indulgent luxury. The view from her home, on top of a hillside, with a clear view of the Adriatic and neighboring islands off Split, was absolutely breathtaking. The water and the air were so clean. I felt like she had a rich life, and told her when I left, that I hoped she never traded the view for a Starbucks.
The constancy of human-dissatisfaction, I found, was everywhere I went, no matter what good was there to be found. I set out from the US seeking perspective--real and lived, not through an IG filter--with no small part of me wishing to find a new home, somewhere else, somewhere 'better.' Now I'm making plans to settle back into the states--and make a home, a home worthy of all that is good, in spite of, and perhaps, *because* of the absolute mess that is American culture. That's my gd mess. Leaving for somewhere else can't be the solution; fixing what is ours has to be. Sisyphus had his rock, and that was enough. Let's imagine ourselves happy.

As a Croatian who left for the same reasons you describe and came to the same conclusions you describe, I found solace in your comment, though I am not ready to go back having made my life elsewhere. But you are right - it’s the same everywhere, with its advantages and drawbacks. We’re all human in the end. As for graffiti - it must have been some young rebellious tourist not appreciating public property, almost regardless of what the graffiti itself said. We can hope life teaches them with time that things are not so simple to fix and that there is not much courage in calling out a problem (which probably you don’t even have first experience of) without offering the potential solution. It’s easy to critique. However, I do believe it is good that people travel (despite the immaturity in destroying the surroundings) because I am convinced it broadens one’s horizons even if subtly and not immediately. As for Starbucks- it’s the advertising from the American TV we were all raised on and the lack of travel (due the to financial situation) and knowing people from different cultures and the absence of diverse thinking. Croatia is very homogenous. With lack of experience, people judge superficially. Hoping you find your place under the sun, Martina

I live in a suburb of Portland, Oregon. My wife has lived in the PDX area for her entire life and is very outgoing and well loved and knows countless people all over the area. During the BLM riot period, which we haven't really entirely come out of yet (because the same people are in power and nothing has really changed), phone video clips got passed around, and private social media posts got passed around. I've done work for the department of corrections and so have some of my friends. My wife knows people who are married to policemen and people who own businesses downtown, and.. oh a lot of people. During the era launching riots, there were people who locked other people into buildings and set those buildings on fire. There were people who violently attacked groups who had just come to pray over the city and worship God, and these people verbally attacked random innocent bystanders, and threatened them without any provocation. There were people who drove along back roads and threw burning bottles of gas into brush and started such conflagrations that entire small towns were burned to the ground. A few of these people came forward, after they witnessed what they'd become a part of, and told police and others that they and the people they'd come in with weren't from Oregon at all. They weren't from the area. They were flown in and paid to do the things they were doing. They were receiving and passing along instructions from out of state. It was an orchestrated political event, paid for by people with a lot of money. There were murderers that video evidence could convict, who walked free because the D.A. wouldn't prosecute them. The refusal to prosecute criminals was so rampant that the Portland Emergency Response team, a police team that responds quickly when someone calls 911 saying they or their property are under violent attack (for example), quit. They all walked off their jobs, because nothing they did stuck, and the mainstream media and the D.A.'s office seemed to be entirely against them.
It is an undeniable fact, at this point, it is an inescapable conclusion, that there are incredibly amoral enemies of western civil society in general, active in the world, who have a lot of money and are willing to go as far as paying groups of thugs to commit arson and murder to achieve their ends, and they are able, somehow, to effectively pressure public officials.

Don't you find the same in almost every popular/mainstream platform. I deleted all forms of social media some years ago except reddit because I actually liked some of the conversation there but today all I see from 90% of the top comments is point scoring/finger pointing/soap opera blame games. Nobody actually wants to have open discussions right now, even more so from the so called left in which I associated myself with since a young teenager. I would still call my views somewhat socialistic although for personal development I definitely see the handicaps in socialistic movements. My main socialistic stance is that we are all humans on one planet and there are far too many suffering literally to make others richer beyond comprehension.
As soon as you say anything that opposes another view you are instantly ridiculed, name called or pigeonholed into some derogatory category. I have slowly accepted that the general population will more or less blindly follow beliefs deep rooted from early stages in their life, attacking anyone who opposes them because it is easier to do that than consider their long standing opinion might be wrong. Add on the fact that said belief can be approved with hundreds of likes on a social media platform and you have a very very hard wall to break.
Thankfully I have found some good friends who share all sorts of opposing political views and I tend to just keep my discussions within those smaller circles. I think it would be extremely idealistic to ever expect a mass adopted platform to have sensible reasonable discussion on.

Without defining the terms right, left, conservative, liberal, or moderate precisely, the discussion is fairly pointless. The simplest and, IMO, most accurate scale is reflected in percent of government control needed for a given ideology. The left-most ideology, communism, requires 100% government control of everything. There have been no communist regimes where that wasn't the case. The opposite pole is logically anarchy or 0% government. Socialism is to the right of communism. Libertarianism is to the left of anarchy, and small government conservatism is to the left of libertarianism. Fill in the rest of the political spectrum, then look at history. All of the great authoritarian regimes of the last century have been communist or socialist. There have never been libertarian or small gov conservative authoritarians. The "right-wing authoritarians" Peterson mentions are Nazis, which were national socialists. They're right-wing only if you limit the political spectrum to Stalin's, in which there's left-wing communists and right-wing socialists. But that leaves out everything that's not Marxist and makes zero sense.

I too disagree with her stance on the covid pandemic, but that isn't to say that she is still great and has worthy points. Limiting yourself of great minds simply because of one differential opinion is quite narrow minded.
I think this ultimately plays into our current cultures inability (for the most part) to have healthy debates and simply "agree to disagree." Ego is constantly getting in the way, competition has almost been ingrained into us, and unless you come out as 'right' at the end of the argument, respect is loss on both sides. I think it's intelligent and beautiful to respect defying opinions. This is the basis of a democracy; to speak your opinion, even it's wrong. As soon as you go shutting people down (or canceling them) because you don't agree, it is no longer a democracy.

@@77XTINA That's all good and well but the pandemic is not really something we need an opinion on. People will just go along with whatever their governments put forward. It was government and media shills who created the pandemic for whatever reasons; incompetence, money, social change or all three which is most likely. What our countries have done is/was disgusting and completely irrational and unnecessary.
If someone can't see the problem from the beginning then they're not paying attention and therefore their opinion is not really worth anything and shouldn't be taken seriously. The problem is that the people who can't see the problems are the same people who make the rules and have informative platforms which millions of people consume.
I'm very political and I could see straight through the pandemic nonsense from the offset. Why? I follow the principles of Objectivism. I reject altruism and more importantly, I understand people and myself. I easily predicted all of the outcomes of the pandemic, even before many very well known and followed public speakers did. That's not to say that anyone who doesn't follow the principles I follow is a bad person or is alway wrong. I remembered some people talking about covid on Question Time a few months before lockdown. They were talking about a virus in China and as you may well know, a lot of the audience is hand-picked. Why were they talking about it? I looked into it. Based on the information, which was enough, I came to the conclusion that it was a fairly mild/moderate flu that will affect some people more than others but won't be a massive problem. I made a mistake myself in underestimating the stupidity and corruption in our societies.
I'm not a particularly smart person, I didn't go to University and I don't proclaim to know everything. However, when it comes to state control of our entire lives, the destruction of the economy (and therefore our livelihoods) and the pushing of pseudo-moralistic values and propaganda spouted from the mouths of vile hypocrites who will never suffer the consequences... It's not up for debate. It should never have happened. The people who have power today aren't always competent and they don't always know what they're talking about. They just read what someone who is "informed" has written and take it as gospel. Scientists are wrong all the time and they shouldn't be in control of our countries. That's what happened though. Large pharmaceutical companies and the government propaganda machine started rolling out the misinformation and raking in the cash for themselves as well as all the other very predictable outcomes.
In conclusion, why does her opinion or the opinion of her employees matter? They don't matter! Very few opinions matter when it comes to these things. So why are we taking it all on board and letting these people run everything? Altruism and the philosophies which reject reality and reason. We have to create a better society so that the people in general but most importantly those in charge aren't whimsical people and we'll be prosperous and see much better progress in all parts of human life and civilisation.

I would never change my entire belief system or outlook on life on a whim. *Dr. Peterson said he likes smart working class writers. C. Lehman said she hires such writers, they are a unique voice.*
One of them said newsrooms have been taken over, by the children of the upper classes. *I read in The Harvard Crimson, a stat:* the average Harvard student, comes from a family income 3X the American average. This explains a lot of the decline in the Democrat Party.
*In the Kennedy era* lots of Democrats came from the working class. Even the ones that went to Harvard. They had sympathy, since that's where their roots were. The Studs Terkel type. *Charles Murray had a similar insight in Coming Apart.* When smart women started going to university, this meant the upper classes tended to marry someone else, from the upper classes. This put a brake on class mobility.
The upper classes used to contain more folks, who originally were from the lower classes. No more. Upper class people are now a self-contained eco-system. *Funny the Woke Crowd are not aware of this. Oh wait...they are all upper class and upper class wannabees, reflecting the neurotic post-modernists, who have very limited interaction with the lower classes they pretend to understand.*
*This is solvable* by recognizing the importance of class in America, adjusting hiring requirements to be along class lines. But the upper class university system has largely become a system of inter-generational wealth transfer and nepotism, for the upper classes. Geography and where different sorts of people chose to live plays a large role. Liberal types like big cities, along the coast. Conservatives, smaller cities, not in the coast, so much. Guess where the vast majority of applicants to elite colleges are picked from? Liberal elite cities. The elite university system is a positive feedback loop of upper class privilege, tearing America apart. All this ends in elite disdain for most Americans, they don't understand. Contempt for voters is not a solid basis, for legitimacy for the ruling class.
*Donald Trump grew up rich.* But his dad made him work with plumbers and electricians a few summers in his youth. So what am I explaining? Why Trump got elected and Democrats turned into bad, bad people. The American upper classes are lacking in self-awareness.

One of the things that progressives get wrong, is about women. Are women an economically oppressed group? Depends on who they marry.
My sister Norma, like me, is from the working class. Norma never went to university, worked as a secretary. Yet she's worth millions. Happily retired, life of luxury. How did that happen? Norma married a successful lawyer. All his money, became hers.
My other sister Cheryl married a truck driver. Lower middle class poverty, all the way. His lack of money, became her lack of money.
The progressive fairy tale about the economic prospects of women and needing quotas doesn't take into account marriage. Young women from the upper classes are born into privilege, then go to university where they are trained to think of themselves as "oppressed". Yet white working class male truck drivers earning low wages from long hours, supposedly have "white male privilege". Most upper class liberal women, even the men, buy into this progressive fairy tale, even when their dad's a lawyer and mom's an accountant. I've seen it.
The privileged pretend they are oppressed, while looking down on the actual oppressed, as supposedly privileged. It's absurd. It's a feature of clown world.

As Jesse Watters pointed out a couple days ago on Fox, he showed a chart comparing a variety of racial groups in America, how well different groups are doing, economically. Whites are economically in the middle. Not at the top. Black Americans are at the bottom economically, but Indian Americans from India are at the top, and Chinese, Japanese, Filipino Americans are more economically successful than white people as a whole. As are Nigerian Americans, curiously. They also earn more money, than whites.
This data puts into doubt, the whole progressive left wing agenda, their agenda includes at the very top of their to-do list, their desire to discriminate against white males in particular.
This inclination to go after white men, it comes out of their view of history, with white Christian males as being supposedly the villain of history, the bad guy, the source of all evil in the world.
I started noticing some of this long ago, in the late 1970s when I was in university. I picked up a library reference book full of official American government statistics.
(A Statistical Abstract of the United States)
I had many Chinese and Japanese friends at the time, so I was curious, how well Chinese and Japanese Americans were doing? Was racism holding them back? At first I was just another brain washed liberal. But the stats said: Even in the late 1970s/early 1980s these non-white groups were already economically outperforming whites, according to official U.S. gov't stats.
We've been lied to, for decades. The lies continue. But, some people are starting to tell truths.
      Thanks.

@@gailhill8391 Good comment on white Christian men needing to go to college. I agree. I also agree with Dr. Peterson, who tells them to step up their game, be responsible. You're not wrong, about that.
A couple of mistakes by Woke progressives, added to this trend:
-Dr. Christina Hoff Sommers, a friend of Dr. Peterson wrote a book called The War on Boys. Basically, our elite decided decades ago, to make schools, more girl friendly. It was all about helping girls get ahead, not boys. They changed many things to encourage this trend. So did government. Progressives succeeded spectacularly. Girls are now vastly out-performing guys, in school. This is usually a good predictor of who will do well in life, economically. The Woke Progressives succeeded in their goal.
What progressive liberals forgot or ignored: Women choose which men to marry, based on how well men do in life. And women do the choosing, when it comes to sex and who to marry, far far more than men do. That's just nature. J. Peterson shed some light on this recently: Dr. Peterson talked to Dr. David Buss recently. Dr. Buss is the world's top evolutionary thinker, on human mating. Dr. Buss said women evolved to chose males, on the basis of how well males can help women, with resources. This makes sense, for women to do so. Also: Women evolved to marry across and up. That means women tend to only want men who are on their level economically, or higher than the women.
      Practical example:
Female doctors mostly only marry male doctors, not male plumbers. But male doctors, will marry pretty women who work at Safeway. Or male doctors will gladly marry female doctors. Men don't care about female economic status. Women just think we do.
This female mating strategy makes sense and is reasonable for women to do this because: women get pregnant, invest heavily in offspring, so they need useful men around, to help them out. The opposite is not true. That's why men don't care about a woman's economic status. The reason: Men don't get pregnant. We don't need to do that.
Now think about this new progressive mating pattern, in regards to how we re-shaped school to favor girls, how we re-shaped government to advantage women over men, how progressive politics wants to advantage women over men. What effect does all this have, on women? Does it help women?
Most people think this always helps women, but I don't think so. For obvious reasons: This liberal pattern in the real world, it creates a shortage of available men, for the women to marry....because women now outcompete men. Thanks to progressives, there are now far far more women that would make outstanding wives, than there are men, who would make outstanding husbands. That's the end result of progressive ideas. So by advantaging women over men, we end up in the long run, creating hardship for women....a shortage of quality men.
Men are being left behind on the good job category, as you pointed out. Yes, men suffer from this. But so do women, if they want a life partner. This hurts women:
You put it well, when you said, "what my daughter is going through trying to find a decent marriage prospect among her white peers, who isn't earning something close to minimum wage."
Exactly. Not much of a future, if your daughter's husband is on minimum wage. Hope it gets better, for your daughter.

But much to the guest's point I was extremely socially anxious before I took that job and after leaving it I at the very least could function in society without being so terrified of interaction as to be broken. Another thing that it did was it put a mirror in front of my own actions and interactions especially with individuals who aren't readily within my Dunbar's number group, I truly believe that you leave a service industry job in one of two states, either supremely jaded and unable to care for the average human or expressly capable of treating fellow humans as people even if you don't recognize them subconsciously as someone you have a connection to.

I feel the heat of the kitchen brings out both the best and the worst of people, but I definitely grew to be more resilient. I learnt to be less anxious about what people around me think of me and keep a single minded focus on the job at hand. Also to add to your point at the end, I feel a little bit of both. I'm definitely exhausted and couldn't care less for the people I worked with, even the ones I got along with, but I also feel that I'm more understanding of their struggles and why they act in a certain way, whether positively or negatively towards me and I was especially good at training new employees since I can understand and sympathize with who they are and their way of adapting to this environment. It's just that, at the end of the day, I recognize there's no point in trying too hard to figure these people out since I could barely figure out myself and my own life anyway.

Another view of the ' choice about smothering the baby to save all the other people in the attic' dilemma is, for one thing, this:- ......
Consideration that the nazis would also harm the baby if they hear and find all the people who are hiding, and that harming would be likely to be far worse and ordeal than if the mother smothered her baby,
The mother obviously do this in the most compassionate, careful, loving way possible, through all her tears.
There's the other dilemma in a similar situation, that is well known, of the choice faced by a mother in a concentration camp, to choose between one of her two children as to which one will stay with the mother, and which be killed (I believe the is the detail for the horrific choice).
I have not heard anyone suggest that it might be a choice that the children both go together, rather than one alone.
It would all depend on the exact circumstances I guess, such as the ages, strength, closeness of the children etc; and also depend on how horrific the exact circumstances of choice were.
In this suggested choice, the crumb of comfort is that the mother takes on the whole of the horror of guilt , regret and responsibility, and the children at least have the crumb of comfort of being together at the last (though, of-course, with nazi, such a comfort would not be in the least guaranteed).
Mothers have faced such horrific choices down through the ages. I feel that these things ar not talked of enough. Folks hide from such terrible thoughts.

I’m a step parent and I’d die for my kids. I never forced my authority on them or perused a relationship with them. Rather I allowed us to grow together over the last 10 years. They trust me, because I trust them , I may not always treat them as adults or equals as they have much to learn and grow as people. But I do treat them as human beings. They often astound me.

These people are afraid of real equality. The idea that we would be living in 'the rubble' together scares the crap out of these people.. Why? Because deep down they realise that they are parasites that wouldn't be tolerated in a real equal society. Today they are the esteemed educators and thinkers. In this scenario they become worthless welfare recipients as they poses no real skill set.
The real question is what do these people provide in such a situation. As a farmer I'd be happy to "pay" for Jordan Petterson's wisdom in this new society. The overweight blue haired SJW? Not a chance.

Claire, I feel like I see your honesty. For the cynic that is me, it is difficult to have the idea that I truly see someone's heart. To steal a phrase, 'stay golden', because that light is beautiful to see. Best wishes.

Awesome episode! Claire Lehmann was an awesome guest. What a treat that conversation was. Super interesting, but somewhat scary considering how far left and how far right people are drifting. We need more middle ground people and media outlets like Quillette.

The thing about the Floyd video is that they didn't show him refusing police orders to sit in the squad car and saying "I can't breathe" MULTIPLE TIMES before ever being put on the ground.
