      What a brilliant insight you’ve provided. What about this as an idea though: I feel like if Sean were a better fighter, it would greatly increase his chance of winning fights. I know it’s kind of an unorthodox idea, but hear me out. If you look at the current and former champions in the UFC, they tend to be better fighters than the opponents they face. In fact, not only do they seem to be better fighters, they seem to win most of the fights they have against fighters who are not as good as them. Do you think the two might be connected?
      Sorry to bombard you with questions. It’s just so rare that I get to pick the brain of a master strategist like yourself.

    Yes, Sean has improved a lot since this fight. But, for those that don’t know, he had a bad concussion the weeks going into this and was throwing up in the middle of the night. He weighed in at 136 and fought at 138 the next day...Its pretty obvious he isn’t himself and doesn’t have much energy. It makes this finish that much more impressive when you realize he did it without the speed/explosiveness he has now

    • @bekindrewind1145

      @sheepzhead 2 роки тому +1

      @@bekindrewind1145 For one, two completely separate situations. And Chimaev missed weight by 7 whole pounds out of spite, for no real reason at all. O'malley never chose this weight class for a height advantage, and he isn't the only tall and lanky fighter in this division. Look at Cory Sandhagen. Are you saying he has the same motive because he's a tall fighter? You obviously don't know enough about the fight game to even make a real argument; trying to attribute a concussion to cutting weight. Though it is possible, he would have to rapidly cut weight before and during weigh-ins for that to be possible. Just hating without good reason, I see.

    • @brunonator
      @brunonator 6 років тому +21

      well when you check a kick you are blocking with the thickest part of your tibia, and you are checking it at their weakest (lower portion of the tibia).

    • @tylerblair318
      @tylerblair318 6 років тому +17

      He doesn't need to worry about leg kicks. He is so quick with his legs and hands that if you for that he could easily counter and hook something in. He does need to work on his clinch, because his wrestling will never be top tier. He's not built for wrestling. He needs to basically watch a lot of Dominick Cruz, Diaz brothers, and Daniel Cormier tape to see things that people can counter that he does and see things that he can perfect. A lot of talent here.

    • @brunonator
      @brunonator 6 років тому +11

      I still remember when Chris Weidman checked Anderson Silva's kick and his tibia broke in half lol. Playing the kicking leg game is for very long fights, they won't hurt your opponent until late in the 2nd or 3rd round...and they can terribly backire e.g Anderson Silva vs Chris Weidman. Kicks are better served in the chin/neck, liver, or right kidney. Setting up your opponent for foot sweeps even if you don't intend to go to the ground with them is more effective than kicking their quadriceps.

      @mre1995 You clearly don't understand the nuances of fighting. Blocking a punch or a kick with 4 ounce gloves will rattle your brain. Do you know how to avoid taking hits? You avoid taking hits by completely avoiding the hits... you would think that would be obvious. Sean O'Malley did have his hands up, just not in a typical boxing guard - he would extend his arms out to catch incoming shots and avoid them with his foot work. Keeping your hands to your side or down helps defend against takedowns. Keeping your hands up wouldn't allow you to move in certain ways. Sean O'Malley clearly knows how to fight. You clearly don't know how to fight.
      What about Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson? What about Michael "Venom" Page?
      I don't think you understand because you are critiquing a fight from the safety of your computer chair. It's a fight... sometimes you get hit.
      Why don't you give advice to the fighter that was KO'd?

      Dude watch the fight and see how many clean shots he takes that he has no reason too, then tell me that shit's gonna work against top level opponents. Maybe you should think about the competition he'll be up against next, instead of the success he's had against low level opponents. I don't see why you would bring up Wonderboy and MVP either, Wonderboy has impeccable defence and MVP's never fought a top level opponent in his life so until he does you can't really judge his skills to the full extent.

      With your logic every punch is a one punch knockout. What if someone had someone mounted and punched him 10 times in a row and the last punch knocked him out, is that still considered a one punch knockout? I mean it was the last punch that knocked him out? There was a culmination of punches to the head in this fight, you low T beta casual.

      If you’re a really good striker, you can kinda get away with having your hands down (in MMA at least). Especially if you have a reach advantage. It’s harder to see the punches coming from the hip and makes it more difficult for your opponent to gauge the distance they can be hit from. Helps with takedown defense as well.
