    We generally have a good handle on the form of Pog, Rog and Remco. The only question mark is Jonas' fitness which the first week should make clear. But he has what I would term 'plausible excusability' if he is not on top form. And if he does manage to win, well then that would be nothing short of incredible and a real psychological blow to Pog and the rest.

      Yeah. As a dane, I wouldn't be dissapointed if Jonas does not win the Tour.
      That crash was horrible, and I totally understand if he isn't 100% at this years tour.
      Will also add some extra tension and questions. Hopefully won't just be the "Pog show", but a great competition.

      Indeed no one outside of the team really knows what Jonas is capable of. They really waited until about the last moment to announce his participation. The team hasn't made any bold predictions, more so they have tempered the hopes for Jonas a bit. I really wouldn't be surprised if he finishes off the podium or even at all. The guy is made of different stuff that is for sure so maybe we will see a solid Jonas. I think we may see some drama in Visma, if Jonas is not quite there, then do they turn to Jorgenson who has looked great this year, or Kuss who has only looked so so. I so suspect UAE are going to take it to Visma in week one and try and test them early. Man, it's going to be a fun watch this year. I am going on holiday during week one so I will try my best to catch up on the races whilst travelling.

    Oh, you are so young! :) I am Dane, and lived in Germany back in 1996 when Bjarne Riis won. That summer we had borrowed a holiday home up in Thy and followed the Tour. Funny to think that there was a woman 4 months pregnant a few kilometers away carrying our next champion :)

      I know the feeling. I think 1992 was yesterday when my German spouse and I slammed our suitcases into the car in a backyard in Frankfurt to go on holiday in Denmark. It was hot and everyone had their windows open. Suddenly there was a huge roar from everyone's windows and we looked at each other and thought that Germany got their first goal.
      We could have listened on the radio, but didn't. It wasn't until we passed the border to Denmark that we discovered what had happened. Everyone was out partying and celebrating like crazy! The roar in Frankfurt had been in pain, not joy.

    This is the video that I've been waiting for, except for the absence of Ewan. All of the speculation about Jonas will be wiped away soon enough. I think Jonas is too much of a professional to put himself into the TdF if he didn't know that he can perform. I hope that you're wrong for the third time Scott!

    The last 10 days are so hard we could have a second tier winner…I think UAE which looks like a great climbing team will not be around as it is too hard…Visma looks to be the better team for this but it will depend upon how Jonas/Sepp/Matteo are going

    • @BenjaminUbayyed-po9tc
      @BenjaminUbayyed-po9tc 6 місяців тому +6

      lol you think that uae woun't be around in the last 10 days? they have the best team at the tour. they will either be driving that part hard or defending but they will be the decding factor. Visma have Kuss, who looks to be suffering this year, and Wout, whose form is still in question but probably good, and that's really it. This team is not the same as Jumbo

    • @swissbiggy
      @swissbiggy 6 місяців тому +3

      @@BenjaminUbayyed-po9tc Indeed it is not Jumbo, but even better than last years team... Do not forget that Roglic did not ride for Jumbo in the Tour last year, thus having Jorgenson next to Vingegaard is already a huge improvement...
      Kuss hasn't been great so far this season, but he has never been great in one week races anyway. (Only one top ten result ever in a one week race in his whole career. Dauphine 2020)... Thus Kuss will as always be in shape in time to help in the three or four stages that it is needed... He can use all the other stages as semi rest days...
      Benoot has been in great shape the whole season already, thus I would not know why he would not be in great shape during the Tour ?
      Van Aert will be in great shape, he did race far less because of his injuries.. But he's already back on the bike for two months and has ridden the tour of Norway as a small warming up without taking anyr isk.. And has spend the last month on altitude... Tip, check the numbers he posted, they are crazy good. On that same altitude camp Laporte and Tratnik also did some important work and hard training, and they are great domestics.. Laporte was a bit unlucky during the spring with sickness, but in good shape he's a world class domestic ... Tratnik was on the TdF shortlist since last december already and is in great shape...
      Kelderman just finished top ten in Switzerland, thus it looks like he's in great shape too.
      That brings us to Jonas who's the main men... Visma told several times already to the entire world press, that if he could not compete for the win, that he would not be present... Well he's present, thus we can expect him to be in great shape... Which is what his numbers from the altitudecamp in Tignes do prove...
      I would be more worried about UAE to be honest.... Ayuso and Pollit crashed very hard in the Dauphine... And Yates and Almeida are in to good shape to early already... They are already in their very best shape at thsi moment, while the last week of the Tour is still more than a mmonth from now.. It is impossible to keep this shape for that long...
      As you can see, we can approach each team from every direction, and we can all give our personal twist on it.. 😉

    • @swissbiggy
      @swissbiggy 6 місяців тому +2

      @@recrevs963 Just look back the last three editions of the Tour and you will undertstand. Because yes even in 2021 in the Tour that Pogacar won, it was Vingegaard who was the better of the two after the 11th stage...
      Pogacar does waste to much energy in stupid sprints and attacks that bring almost no time gain, and Jonas does put the hammer down two or three times and gaines 5/6/7 minutes....
      Jonas his endurance is just bigger in a three week race.... Which is the reason that Visma does keep the pace very high each stage.
      Pogacar will always beat Vingegaard in a one day race or a race of just one week... But in a race of three weeks I do never see Pogacar beat Vingegaard, the difference is just to big between the both...
      But this said, this season could be different since we do not know in what shape Jonas is... But if both are in top shape/fitness Vingegaard will win his third in a row without any problem..

      @@recrevs963 based upon looking at some of the results from the TdF the last few years, longer hard days with heat seem to really impact his performance vs Jonas…I have no secret information but if you just look at results there is a pattern…lets see if the pattern holds…I think though that the terrain suites Pogi much more in the first 10 days so my guess is he will be in the lead maybe by minutes
