Does anyone know why the bassdrummer often looks back and at one point even walked backwards? Often see this with the RM never seen the Guards doing that.
Watch closely at Trooping the Colour. When the Escort to the Colour approaches the formed companies just before the Troop, the music changes from "Escort to the Colour" by Richard Ridings to the "Grenadiers Slow March". Between the marches you will see the lead bass drummer facing Escort while the rest of the Massed Band faces away in the other direction, in order to keep his beat in time with the Guards' pace.
Superb performance again by the best military band in the world. Well done all of you. A pleasure to be able to watch.
Enjoyed. Thanks for posting.
For info: the first march is 'On the Quarter Deck' by Kenneth J Alford.
First March is "On the Quarterdeck" -Kenneth Alford

He is watching the `lead` band so that the separate bands all keep in step for when they re-form as one group
