    Nice vid! I also have a Alienware Area 51 R2 so if I do need to change my fan in the future I can do it. Thanks for the video!

      Very easy procedure isn't it. Glad you enjoyed the video.

    Hi, Nice video very helpful, thanks. Just wondered why you thought it needed up-grading of the fans? What improvement did you get? Did you do a before & after test?

  • @yungennix4070

    Cool video man.. thanks can you post the exact size of radiator screws you used for the fan?
    thanks~ and would a sp120 LED work? or do i really need a pwm fan?

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому +2

      +Yung Ennix Thanks for watching, yes you could use a led sp120 and it would work it just might be loud so use the supplied voltage drop down cable. And the screws are standard 6-32 1/4 inch hard drive mount screws but the ones in the case already will work. And for the radiator you'll need 6-32 1/2 inch screws which will be longer. Hope this helps.

      thanks for answering. follow up question can you still control the fan speed of the non PWM using Command center or will it only run on full RPM? another question would be the added rad fan, can you control the speed of it or will it only run on a static speed with the pump fan? Thanks sorry for asking too many questions

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому

      +Yung Ennix No worries. In comand centre to change speeds it has to be PWM and same with the radiator fan, the original fan pulling air through the radiator is PWM and the new one would have to be PWM to adjust speeds. Always happy to help.

      k thanks man. kinda weird tho command center only shows top fan and PCI fan controls and my CPU fan is always on idle.

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому

      +Yung Ennix oh sorry you meant will it show up in command centre. I used a splitter cable which means the one fan speed is the same for both.

    The diameter of 6/32" is too wide to fit on the radiator. What diameter did you use?

    Years later I can find a video to show how I can swap out the stock fans for corsair ml 120 fans and a deep cool gammaxx L120

    Hi there, nice video mate, could you please tell me where did you get that sli bridge? Did Dell shipped your pc with it? Mine only has that ugly bendy sli connector.
    Thanks in advance.

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому

      +Julius Razbadauskas Thanks for watching dude. The SLI bridge came with the PC as standard for me, not sure where you would get the solid one from.

    • @Razbadukas
      @Razbadukas 8 років тому +1

      +Hugo Scott thanks for reply. Consider yourself lucky as eveyone I know/seen got their Alienware with ugly sli bridge! Dang...

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому

      +Julius Razbadauskas Wow that is lucky. I don't often look into the case unless I'm modifying or cleaning the inside though it nice to have the SLI bridge glowing green. Just checked Google shopping and they're about £40. Not sure if the one I have is high memory bandwidth compared to the ribbon cable but it does look cool either way. Thanks for the heads up.

    • @Razbadukas
      @Razbadukas 8 років тому

      Hugo Scott the ones you were looking at does not fit on Alienware unfortunately. PCI-E slots have larger spacings between them thus standard SLI bridge won't do. I've searched everywhere and others tried contacting Dell for spare parts, but with no luck.

    Hello, Nice video very helpful. I'm looking to upgrade the ram in my Alienware 51 r2 to 32gb.. Would you know what ones are compatible to buy? Thanks

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому +1

      +Daniel Kilgour Glad you enjoyed the video, I haven't got round to upgrading the ram yet. Any desktop ddr4 ram should suffice. Be careful on the how big the heat spreaders are on some sticks. Low profile would be more like the ram installed at the moment.

    • @danielkilgour5414
      @danielkilgour5414 8 років тому +1

      cheers bro... I have also looked into maybe getting the 1080 gtx gpu but don't know if it compatible either.

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому

      +Daniel Kilgour The GTX1080 is compatible, you can also unscrew the custom alienware support bracket off your original card and add it to the 1080 which makes things more secure.

    • @danielkilgour5414
      @danielkilgour5414 8 років тому +1

      thanks mate you know your stuff. One last hope im no annoying ye lol Is the 1080 gtx better than the titan x card if so why?

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому

      +Daniel Kilgour No.worries, just stuff I've read really. I know the 980ti card was as a good at gaming as the Titan but Titan was more for making content rather than 980ti for playing. And I know the 1080 is marginally better again than the 980ti but same applies in terms of making graphically intensive content and gaming. So 1080 is better at gaming than Titan but Titan is better for work related graphically tasks. Hope this helps. Thanks again for watching.

  • @kebab4eva

    why did you feel the need to change the fan and radiator

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому +1

      Mainly because I could but I did want to swap out the stock bottom fan because it had a slight knocking sound to it. The corsair was an amazing replacement. So smooth and silent. The added radiator fan was just for fun though, extra performance.

    Do you have the part# or item# for that 2 way wire to do the push pull?

  • @gibby231

    Do you use Alienware Command Center to control your fans? (and if you do you leave them on auto or do you use your own curve?)
    If not what software do you use to control the fans? or do you do it in the BIOS?
    Sorry I'm new but I want to try this!

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому

      The Alienware command centre starts up in the back ground and leave that to control the fans. You can take it off auto but I like it quiet. Hope this helps, sorry for the late reply.

    I wanna replace the whole liquid GPU cooler. But idk if a 120 mm would fit in this case. Also besides making sure that the new radiator is compatible with my i7 8700K and a z370 chipset mother board what else would I need to check for command center to still work?

    • @danielmaia6135

  • @BramSLI1

    Did this increase or decrease the fan noise you were getting previously?

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  9 років тому +1

      I did notice a decrease in sound from the front fans maybe due to a better design of blade but If you put your ear to the rear case fan it's pushing more air out so slightly louder than before on the radiator fans.. As long as your using 4 pinned fans they should be regulated at the same speed.. Hope this helps.

    Hi can you still control the fan speed of the corsair sp120 in the alienware command center?

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  9 років тому +1

      Yes as long as they are sp120 PWM fans they can be controlled exactly the same. Hope this helps.

    What type of screw you use to fix the fan to the radiator? thank you

    • @MechanicFoxx
      @MechanicFoxx  8 років тому +2

      They are 6/32 half inch screws. The ones I used needed a flat head screw driver rather than phillips head. Hope this helps.

    Thank gtx 1080 is compatible alienware area 51 R2 2015 ?

    • @ThiefOfNavarre
      @ThiefOfNavarre 6 років тому

      It is. I would go for a reference\blower card if you don't want to upgrade the vents & fans. The generally more powerful open cards recirculate the heat inside the case if you dont.
