I have a bias to concord grape wine, perhaps its because i been making wine inmate style for ages with welches grape juice. Now i make it more properly with concord grapes and while I enjoy a Pinot Noir, Concord is still my fav... im watching this with some Concord grape wine i made inmate style just to watch this video.. 17..... Cheers
I like concord grape wine, Merlot second then Pinot Noir... Not really a fan of the white wine... but i have a bias fpr concord grape, probably bc i lived in a dry community and had to make my own with what was available locally and welches concord grape juice was all we had. :) and it worked well....
Contacted John and I have to say it was a pleasure talking to him. Just like any artist passionate about their craft. Get the pleasure of tasting his wines in a couple of days and can't wait!
I'm far from a connoisseur of wines but thoroughly enjoyed this man's journey, his heartfelt passion and the way the story was told. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I had the chance to sit with Mr. Saemann through a full tasting and pairing of all his wines. All beautiful wines, but the best experience was spending the afternoon talking wine, food and life with Mr. Saemann. What a great guy with a wonderful story!
I just opened my first bottle of 2012 on 3/28/2016. Celebrating one of the best breaks between school semesters I have ever had. Thank you clouds Rest and God bless. Great finish - Excellent body - Perfect nose
I attended the STARS of Pinot Noir at the Sofitel. Wow..60 different winemakers presented their art. Wine from the same grape, yet so varied. You should not have missed it, it was exciting and educational.
Don't forget about Oregon Pinot. The best Pinot I have ever had came from the Willamette Valley AVA in Oregon. Specifically Ankeny, King Estate, and Trinity Vineyards.
I Couldn't agree more, had a bottle of Pinot from Willamette Valley and it was hands down the best Pinot Noir I ever tasted! That area is the best kept secret
Yes ... and Domaine Drouhin is direct descendant of Joseph Drouhin from Burgundy, France! Dundee Hills region of Willamette Valley. Both consistently perfect vintage to vintage!
Im from Northern California and now live in Northern Arizona.and I can love many wines and dislike many wines but I hate generalizing but like they said in the movie, and Im paraphrasing You can drink a wine made by machines and it can be good but when someone or a group of people literally put they're blood sweat and tears and LOVE then it transcends into a sublime nectar.
Hold on a minute........ The winemaker was standing their at the cold soak doing punchdown for colour & flavour extraction. He said that happens for a week before actual fermentation starts....... But then he said they are going to press it out after a week to 14 days & put straight into oak barrels, is that without the fermentation stage???? Cant be, something got cut out here or the script is wrong..........
Thanks for the Video! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you ever tried - Lammywalness Green Grapes Guide (do a search on google)? It is an awesome one off product for learning how to become a successful grape grower without the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate after many years got great success with it.
Pinot Noir is the best of the red varietals - bar none. I'm only disappointed they didn't feature any of the fine Noirs from Northern Santa Barbara County and the Santa Rita Valley near Lompoc! They're making some of the best tasting and smoothest I've ever had.
beautiful story of passion inspiration & faith :') i waanna grow grapes NoW! so lucky to live here in Santa Maria Valley (wine country) were pinot is king Crop....everywere i look you got merlot, shiraz, cabernnay & others i cant even pronounce, but noirs are a household name here. Our smurf village is surrounded by Dem smurfberries as if their indigenous here oh ya & strawberrys too haha!!!
I love a good wine. I have tried so many pinot noir wines from Oregon to California, but Burgundy wines is heavenly awesome especially highly acclaimed Domaine De La Romaneé-Conti
Great story! John Saemann seems like a really great guy with incredible passion! Wish I can try the wine but can't get it here in Canada. All the best to him and his family.
Great documentary. ..its def. my go-to grape...but id still rather enjoy a nicely balanced IPA because I've never really considered myself a wine snob anyway...
Best wine for the money at any price level. My all-time favorite is Savigny les Beaune, but it has gotten too costly for me to enjoy except for a really special occasion.
Romanee Conti is fermenter with 100% stems... just saying, depends which type of wine you want and the quality of your grapes, Henri Jayer on the other side was indeed removing all, its up to you and both can make fantastic wines
So funny to hear about Pinot Noir delicacy and elegance from people outside Burgundy... Not that they don't make great wines, but not so much about that delicacy, complexity, temperament, and elegance that makes the grape reputation.
"The toughest grape". Sure it's a demanding grape, but the toughest? In Switzerland we basically only grow Pinot Noir because nothing else will grow here
Thanks for a great video! Well done indeed.. I love my Pinot and would dearly love to try some of Clouds Rest vintages. Nothing like a good Pinot... :-)
I like the fruit forwardness of N America PN's however the terroir of French make PNs that the rest of the world can not duplicate even if they want to try. Every terroir land parcel has its minerals temperatures humidity and everyone is different
Amen to Pinot Noir, don't forget fruit wines like pineapple, banana, peach, they may suprise you. I know because once i started making them i haven't been able to stop.
One correction I'd like to make is wine was first made in Georgia at least 8000 years ago, a recent discovery found a clay pot they used for wine just like the ones the use today I think they are called quivi or something like that
Would like to try this California Pino Noir. Interesting that in Burgundy even though this is a native grape variety and beautiful, they are most famous for their Chardonnay. Also Alsace, though known for white wines especially Riesling we are also here growing nice Pinot Noir; but this will not be a Grand Cru even if grown on Grand Cur land because it is not a noble grape in Alsace. Adding to my wish list try Pino Noir from Clouds Rest Vineyards. Very nice documentary!
I have only been drinking wine seriously for about 6 months or so. I thought wine was going to be sweet. So you could imagine my shock drinking cab. It took me the whole bottle before I started to get it and like it. Once I did, every other wine I had didn't stand up to a good cab. Being new to wine, I didn't know it was the tannins that I was enjoying so much. So Pinot just tastes bland, as do the others I have tried except riesling. I don't hate it, I just think they're overreacting to it. Again I am new, so it may be a flawed opinion. That's how I feel right now.
PN is probably my least favorite red wine grape. The wines are often thin, watery and with too little tannin, almost like grape juice. Cab Sauv all the way!
Ya I'm assuming you think the same of Okanagan wines in canada? Each country has their own take on wine. You have to learn to appreciate wines from all countries.
aaron vandereyk True, each country has its own distinctive class of wine production but I am sure we can all agree that some wines are finer than others thus my previous comment on US wines.
I'm drinking PN, puffing a good C-Gar and watching this documentary at the same time...makes it all the better. Cheers & Bottoms up.
I have a bias to concord grape wine, perhaps its because i been making wine inmate style for ages with welches grape juice. Really good video
To John Saemann... I get it. Your passion is what so many of us, successful or not, desire. Very inspirational. Well played.

I love how thorough this video is, and see how the master crafter's of Wine have a universality... It is anaet and passion, not a commodity.

matthew calidonna hmm..must experience this today

Willamette Valley Vineyards (Turner/Salem, OR) makes the best U. S. Pinot Noir, especially the owner’s reserve available only at the winery. A must.
John - I’m buying your wine! Amazing. Jonny Weiss “Highway to America.” 🎶
Thank you for the video. I feel pleasure when I try wine and see your videos
Thee most informative video I`ve seen so far.
Fantastic story, loved every moment of it

John Saemann, your words at the end meant a lot to me :) Something that you have put so much passion in must be amazing. I cannot wait to try some.
He stopped for 2 seconds there because of overflowing emotions.
Excellent story. Pinot Noir my favorite

BoogieB0nes well that’s kind of what the video is about...

Inspired by desire and cradled in love. Well done indeed Clouds Rest.
It's sounds good all of them I might start drinking more
Totally buying a bottle. I am looking up Cloud's Rest right now!
I can't find. nevermind ... i knew it would be expensive... but wow! It's ouuta my league...Great story though.
My second time watching this. Inspirational! Now I need to find myself a nice rock garden haha. Congradulations Mr. Saemann!

Pinot Noir is probably the most fresh of the red wines
Great story. Makes me want to order a bottle.
Beautiful Staff... Thank you for sharing!
I love a good wine. I have tried so many pinot noir wines from Oregon to California, but Burgundy wines is heavenly awesome especially highly acclaimed Domaine De La Romaneé-Conti
I suggest you drink a glass of Pinot Noir while you watch this video
Lol he cried at the end lol. Must be my juicy memories
Great story! John Saemann seems like a really great guy with incredible passion! Wish I can try the wine but can't get it here in Canada. All the best to him and his family.
Pinot is amazing....this video is a little outdated but still amazing.
Great story.
Thanks for the video! Great stuff.
Tony austin you said its precision i think its simplicity of wine making gentle wine
Pinot noir makes me want to live forever
Paul Giamatti (Sideways) approves. Havent seen the movie? Watch it now. Right now.
exitthegame ughh...horrible movie. enjoyable, entertaining, sure...but horrible.
My name is king kong from hong kong and i play ping pong.
My hobbies are film noir and pinot noir.
Love Pinot!

Great documentary. ..its def. my go-to grape...but id still rather enjoy a nicely balanced IPA because I've never really considered myself a wine snob anyway...
No comparison. You can brew a US style IPA anywhere in world. Beer has no element of terroir.
Superb Dokumentary.
Zinfandel must be the Ace of Spades.
I am from Austria and i Love Pinot Noir too🇦🇹❤🇦🇹Austrian Pinot Noir is also very good 👧🙌🍷🍷
Miles from Sideways 🍷 brought me here.
Bloody good doco
Pino noir is awesome
Perfect...
Holy is the word.
Thank you.

you're talking with Americans, so it's about the same as if they'd talk about Röstis. They know and understand shit.
Simon Brunel as an American I can 100% confirm this
Really? Elaborate please.
Thanks for a great video! Well done indeed.. I love my Pinot and would dearly love to try some of Clouds Rest vintages. Nothing like a good Pinot... :-)
Carlo Rossi gallon jug of Pinot Noir?
One can wish.....
Let's drink!

Do u get a buzz after drinking Pinot.
Yes

Zerothe everyone is entitled to their own opinion on wine, it is a very personal thing. I teach that to everyone that is new to the industry
It's not Welch's grape juice that's for sure
too true cab sauv is much better once you get the taste for it. PN is for new drinkers imho
Seems like the glasses are really small.
It's good for men helps with testosterone and blood flow
And then the next morning, he wakes up shaking his head while looking at the ugly bitch laying in his bed.
The brunette woman was one of the testers from bottle shock movie.
With this rather rapid turnover in barrels, what most are tasting is from the new oak of the barrels and not necessarily the grape.
PINOOOOOOOOOOTT NOOOOOOIIIIIR!!! - Titus
If wine wouldn't get you drunk, not so many would be interested
who else after watching this wants to go buy some pinot noir
I agree with the title
I want to listen to Tom Beren-jar.
PN is probably my least favorite red wine grape. The wines are often thin, watery and with too little tannin, almost like grape juice. Cab Sauv all the way!
packer812 you need to spend huge money to get great Pinot
I agree! Cabernet Sauvignon is full of flavor!
minute 11 to 12. volcanic rock and ash are the most nutritious elements for any plant. quit saying it was hard and tough to grow vines there
1,000th like!
Bannockburn New Zealand ! Enough said
Why is the video only 360p??
good
Damn stumbled across this documentary while I was looking for the recipe of making prison wine.
You guys sure you dont use commercial yeast all natural after soaking and extraction no yeast addition
Sonoma County has the best wine, the best bud, and the most flavorful meth in the world!
Agreed
J - Try “Rutherford Wine.” Sonoma County. Red Wine. 🍷
wine is good for you and bud is good for you when eaten and meth is horrible and tastes like batteries.
Be warned this isn't about Pinot Noir it's an infomercial for Clouds Rest,
citizenschallengeYT Miles????
Yeah.... Where's the Vodka??? 😂😹
Tony r u still there
I wouldn't think of a queen as sexy but ok
pinooooot noooiiiirrrr
This is the most overdramatic video for booze that I can’t take it seriously.
Shouldn't a master sommelier be able to pronounce Beaulieu correctly?
Perhaps I am being a bit biased here but US wine doesn't make the cut for my palate. Chilean, French and Italian wines... now we are talking.
***** I can't make head nor tail of anything you are saying.
***** Whatever floats your boat I guess. You're right, I am wrong. Happy now Jack?
