I damaged the paper removing a splotch. I let it dry completely and then used 1200 grit sandpaper to smooth it out. It worked better than I expected. Sandpaper is available at many very fine grits. Start too fine, like 2000, and use lower numbers to get coarser if you need to. Blend the sanding out past the damaged area, too, just like with paint. That doesn't fix the color issues, of course, but minimizes your eye going to a different texture. I swear sometimes that most artistic endeavors are about creatively fixing mistakes.
What a clever idea Paul! I suppose it can also depend on the quality of the watercolour paper, and whether it would stand up to sanding in this way. But I may try this idea out on some scrap watercolour paper and see how well it works for reapplying paint. Paul 🎨
