Before listening to this interview, i thought he was supreme in the art of song writing and one of the greatest indian lyricists- if not the greatest, but i am now convinced he was also a great conversationalist, especially the way he uses difficult Urdu words, making it sound simpler and easy to listen to. Rajendra KrishanJi was a poet extraordinaire but sadly, in his lifetime, he remained greatly underaprreciated. 💔 His solos and duets resonated with the listeners. There was a certain gentle sweetness in his lyrics. The sad ones reached the core of your heart and touched your soul. In tenderness and sensitivity of expression, I put him in the same class as ShailendraJi and Sahir Ludhiyanvi Saheb, with one huge difference: his lament was restrained. He challenged a system but without a revolt, if that is possible. This was in sharp contrast to the preferred style of Shailendra and Sahir both of whom didn't mince words. They called a spade a spade! The protest in their poetry was sharp and left behind a sting. Never mind his Hindu background, he was born in pre partition India which was called Hindustan. During that era they all literally spoke Urdu fluently besides their own dialects such as Punjabi or Hindi.
