- This video shows some off-ride footage of Top Thrill Dragster, the new-for-2003 strata coaster manufactured by Intamin. In 2024, Cedar Point opened Top Thrill 2, a reimagined version of the coaster manufactured by Zamperla. While this was recorded on two separate days in 2004 (May and late June), this video was released exactly twenty years to the day most of it was recorded.

The sounds of that cable are crazy!
That was my favorite sound the original produced. I don't know how the new version sounds as I am purposely avoiding any video of the ride testing or operating with guest. I won't be visiting the park this season so I will eagerly await my first ride on it next year.
@@SeanFlaharty Probably a good call to wait till next year, these big new prototype rides take time to get running smoothly! Won't be surprised if I don't get on it this year either but at least there are other good rides at the park too
Even though I'm going to dearly miss that launch, It's very encouraging seeing the reviews for TT2, at least, for the few people who managed to ride it.
The only few seconds of video I have seen regarding the ride were a couple of renderings when they announced the ride last year.. I have decided to do my best to ignore construction,, testing and ride videos of new rides. That way I can be surprised when I see or ride something for the first time. My absolute favorite part of the original was the launch.I know the ride is having issues and I know it has to be a nightmare for the park. I won't be visiting the park this year so hopefully things will be better next year.
Watching this while sitting next to a closed TT2 right now. Im sure TT2 will be great but man I really miss the original Dragster.
that loud "arms down, head back, and hold on" into dragster engine sounds was such a huge part of this ride
I haven't read a review or seen a single video of TT2 testing, running or anything like that. I want to go in totally blind and be surprised. What I shouldn't be surprised at is I heard the ride is having a lot of issues already and is down a lot of the time. While I don't have any plans on visiting the park this season, I hope the ride will have its issues worked out soon.. I hope to ride it next year or the year after at the latest. It's just not a priority for me this year.
@@SeanFlaharty it definitely hasnt been down most of the time, whoever said that exaggerated, it did go down a couple times yes, but it was only down for like 10-20 minutes. no one knows for sure all the issues TT2 is having but one consensus is the the problem lies in the wheel bogies/wheels themselves
@@michaelanderson5209 Oh ok. Thanks for the explanation.. I was under the impression the ride was closed for a week or something.. So much for believing that. Lol. While I am sure the park is going to continue to fine-tune the ride, it's good to know it hasn't been down for very long. That is a lot more promising than the original. I need to stop listening to my friends. Ha ha. I have a buddy that is visiting the park next week from Europe. I know he will be patient with the ride and just wait it out until it opens when he is there if it has a delayed opening. I think he has three days at the park. Hopefully he will get a ride or two on it.
@@SeanFlaharty Just to clarify for you and your friend's sake from Europe. The ride is on an extended closure. It's posted on the CP main website homepage, but I get why you'd want to avoid that page, and I suggest you do to remain spoiler free. The ride has been closed since May 12th. What I think Michael was saying that for the times that it has been operating, it's downtime has been pretty minimal comparatively to the original. Since May 12th, it has not been open to the public, there's been test runs seen since, but never open, and at this stage the only activity that's been seen has been the trains have the wheels and related assemblies removed. Nothing else regarding a re-opening date has been announced yet.
But as a side note, big thank you to all the footage and content over the years, been watching your content for probably close to 15 years now since I was a kid, so to be an adult now and to see a ride like this re-open in this era that I can actually remember has been quite enjoyable to see!
Wow watching this (second time or more on a different day mind you) takes me back to a different time. A time that was otherwise literally just that but a time before the experience of life had shaped my perception and enjoyment for coasters and theme parks. In 2004, I had no second thought before jumping in the car and driving overnight from NYC to Sandusky. Now I fly in 😂

Ha ha. Other than an international trip I am doing soon, I don't do much vlogging anymore. I ended my vlogging series last year. I hope to ride TTD next year or at least the year after. Just don't have time for it this year.

It certainly was a lot different. For me personally, I would visit the park at least ten times a season Sometimes more. Now I try to visit once a year. This year I have zero plans on visiting.

Also, I guess those giant tires (and shorter trains) didnt last long, did they?
I thought that kid doing those moves was funny. The tires and spoilers were removed shortly after the ride opened as one of the big tires flew off the ride during a test ride.
this really makes me sad but angry too! I'll miss the sound and how intense that launch was! It's just not the same, but not sure when I'll ride TT2
I hope to ride TT2 next year. I heard the ride is having a lot of issues so hopefully those will be fixed by next season of the one after.

That system has had issues since the debut. While it provides stunning acceleration, it comes with a lot of downtime. I won't be riding Top Thrill 2 this year Hopefully when I visit the park next year the bugs will be worked out. I accept that the main reason I would ride the original version is no longer something offered on the new ride so I just have to find something new to love about it now.
