I’ve got a similar one - but fully loaded. Whoever bought it first went mad with the spec list. I bought it at 90k miles fourteen years ago. I’ve still got it - and it’s just ticked over 310,000 miles. And nothing has broken on it - its an absolute trooper.

hey what about this geartronic, I have got mine 3 weeks ago at 84k miles and no trace of gearbox been serviced. So now I am not sure should I look for someone who can change the fluid or just leave it as it is.. 1 lady owner since new, but she is from London so I guess this car went through a lot of city traffic and less motorway.

Have an 02 D5 with the AW box.
Bought it after I sold my A3 8V 1.8 TFSI back in 2019. Was just buying it as a cheap runabout, and me being anti Volvo (as up until then, it was Saab or nothing) but seeing as the 2.2 lump in the 9-5 left me beyond dissapointed I bit the bullet.
Comfortable, best seats I’ve ever had, all blonde leather and retrofitted wood inlays + steering wheel and a modified exhaust so sounds lovely.
40+ MPG without issues, close to 500K km’s and runs like a clock! Love it to bits.
Almost 4 years into ownership, and the biggest repair? An intercooler. Beyond amazed and will keep mine for years.
Will do a full refurb of the exterior as it deserves it. When the exterior and the Titanium trims are fitted it will look perfect.

I have a P2 V70 2.4 Turbo (petrol). She's just turned 178,000 miles and drives like a brand new car. I've just come back from a family holiday in the Welsh mountains. Such a pleasure to drive on a long run. I'm intrigued to know more about the extra rear lights, as I've considered doing that to mine.

Had two 850 diesels years ago, then a V50 which had the PSA engine and blew up! Then got a V70 p2 auto petrol, full history, beautiful car but so so thirsty. Next a C70 P2 181 bhp D5, full history, which I still have at the minute and is an absolute rocket ship. Also now have a V70 p2 163bhp D5 02, again full history, unfortunately didn’t have cruise or heated seats but it had so much money spent at main dealers on clutch, services etc. This beauty undoubtedly saved me after it had been to a garage for the a/c condenser to be changed, as coming home from work at 60mph she launched with no warning off the road and into a field. I seriously thought she was going to flip over as she bounced out of control over the ruts. Thought it was a blow out, but turned out the nut had come off the o/s ball joint leaving me with no steering. Damage- a cut into the plastic under tray and that was it. I’ve replaced all the drop links inner and outer tie rods and ball joints. With reference to you changing the cambelt, I’d never done one ever before, but I changed this one and the P2 engines aren’t that hard to do. These cars are so much more comfy than the C70, but that is a fun car to drive with the roof down and you can feel the chassis flexing when you pop her into a bend.

Mine, 2001 V70 D5, just passed 600.000km mark. 🎉 Which is pretty good considering I traded it with gypsies for a Peugeot 206 which I got for free 😅
Volvo had no service history, ABS light on and MOT due in couple of weeks. Managed to negotiate extra 100€ + Volvo in exchange for the Peugeot 😂
ABS light turned out to be a bad fuse connection so it was free to sort out. Took me few weeks to find that pesky fault though. Needed new rear shocks for MOT but that's all the mandatory stuff I had to do.
It's obviously seen better days and if I end up keeping it, I think full set of engine mounts is next on the list.
Anyway, mine came with Opel (Vauxhall) wheels. Tyres were in their late teens so obviously started looking for new ones. I didn't realise it at first, but what the crafty "businessmen" before me had done, was they had sold a nice set of 17" Volvo Thor wheels, probably worth half the value of the car. They had then put on just some wheels that fit... But here's the thing: Volvo and Opel/Vauxhall wheels aren't interchangeable 😮 Yes, they kinda fit but that Volvo V70 has 5x108 lug pattern where as Opel/Vauxhall is 5x110.
It's not the end of the world, Volvo enthusiasts have fitted Saab wheels since early days of automobiles and vice versa. But if you wanna do it right, get proper Volvo wheels and sell those Vauxhall ones...
Carrying on with the budget theme of mine, I managed to find a set of those 17" Volvo Thor wheels for sale less than an hour away for 40€/set because the tyres on them were bad 😅 Normally they sell here for 300-600€, depending on the condition.
Otherwise a very clean looking motor you got there. It'll be an excellent car for years to come! 👌

    Less than 6 month ago I bought my first Volvo ever... a P2 V70 D5 2.4D 163 hp from 2006, with 300 000 km at the meter !
It is same colour as yours with the simplistic 'Kinetic' finishing : no fancy option or leather seats, but everything works as expected.
I love the car, its comfort, the space inside, the look especially the back has always been fascinating to me with the big red lights... and the good Volvo wheels 😀 you're absolutely right the wheels on yours do not fit, swap them with original Volvo ones and that will make a big difference + removing this anaesthetic red finishing is a must, should be the first thing to do.
The engine... what to say ? it's a piece of mechanic art IMHO, runs smoothly, powerful, low diesel consumption around 6.5 l/100 km (this is how we count here in France 😁) I expect to drive this car for many years. I opted for this car with the manual gear box... just in case to save some unexpected problem with a not-well serviced automatic one, but that's not an issue as the selector is so smooth and precise that you change gears without noticing it.
I absolutely agree with you, that generation of Volvo wagons are the last of what one can call a 'true Volvo' for it is well conceived up to every detail, simple, spacy, comfortable, efficient, robust etc... This one I bought comes from the Alps where the owner worked in a ski resort, and I can't even see a single spot of rust anywhere !!
Also I found a second hand Volvo 'dog grill' from a Swedish website that fits perfectly into the pre-existing fitting holes at the ceiling and can be lifted if necessary as it's equipped with 2 gas lifters ! this is where you see the attention to details that the Nordic guys had at that time, my 🐕‍🦺 loves the spacy trunk.
So, definitely love the car ! Long life old Volvos !

it's good to find a channel who loves Volvo's, i have had most most and among my favourites were a S40 T4 in yellow, then after looking for a long time a 850R then went German for a few years and other makes in between Volvo's. my last Volvo was a flash green S60R which no one knew i was buying and got it delivered on transporter and as it passed my brothers work (someone else who likes Volvo's and he had a V70 D5 among others ) said to a work mate as a joke i bet that's going to my brothers and that's where it went!

I need to change the wheels tho as they are 225 and rub it’s meant to have 205 so I bought some v70 205 wheels but turned out they were off a mk3 and they have a smaller bore than the mk2 🤦‍♂️. Did not know this so sold tho and I’m still looking for a new set. Almost all marketplace wheel sellers don’t specify wheel bore so don’t make the same mistake. Looking forward to seeing what happens with this 👍

I upgraded ? To a P3 and what a shock all the running gear was covered in rust due to Ford cheapskate production. I had Volvos for over 20 years. Mines a 2003 212bhp Mystic silver (426) 2.5T S80 petrol. I've had it since 2014 and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, she's starting to rust pretty bad around the door bottoms and one of the wings. I bought it because I've always been cursed with rusting cars despite taking care of them, so I initially got the big Swede because you never see a rusty Volvo. . . . Ha ha, there you go.
Dreading looking for another car as this one's like driving around in your living room, and I love scaring the hell out of the occasional Audi or BMW that thinks he's going to take Grandad's Volvo on the inside! I'm thinking about going for a 2011+ D5 S8 or S60 as the Tax on the newer petrols just gone over £700 a year! But I'd much rather keep the old barge to be honest. 😒

@Simpson's Classics The best V70 D5 to get is a Euro 3 D5 Manual, The Aisin warner auto's are not good and there is no getting away from it with trans fluid changes, The valve block in the auto box simply wears out. It's for that reason after a bit of gearbox research i drive a 2003 V70 D5 manual, 243K miles on it and it runs flawless. As for wheels, I took the Volvo Thor alloys off as they were scabby and put a set of refurbed Volvo Nebula alloy's on it and they look great! 👍 P.S When you get the timing belt done pay special attention to the front auxiliary drive belt system including the alternator clutch pulley, A common D5 fault is the auxiliary belt failing and being dragged in by the timing belt causing engine failure, Lots of info about this on the internet!!

I have one, a 2003 D5 silver as well, but almost never use it anymore as my daily is a V70 D5 2011, love them both but have to say the 2011 is the better car. The engine is more powerful and smooth compared to the 2003, but the older one is more fuel efficient. Than the comfort, both OK, but do not compare those V70's with a Mercedes-Benz E-class from the same age, those are the better rides IF well maintained. Love the seats from the older one but the 2011 is a bit bigger, more loading space and better designed. Also no cracks, crinchy plastic sounds etc....the 2003 oh man....after those years you definitely will have some squeaky interior parts. The instrument panel, both great. Than about the body, both great, almost no rust at all, very sturdy tank like build. One major difference on the 2011 model: the whole headlight unit can be removed by moving 2 metal pins, absolutely great design. Conclusion: if you want a save, solid and relative spacious car the V70's are the way to go ( this goes also for the 850/V70 classic, stunning appearance in my opinion! ) and far more friendly to maintain compared to bigger SUV's....( monsters :)
But at the moment ( I live in the Netherlands ) prices are nearly insane for a V70/E-class/A6/BMW-5 occasion, just insane for such old cars. Why? our stupid government is on a crusade for EV's, so the current 2nd hand stock of benzin/diesel cars is going to be depleted within some years.....if you want a nice, well maintained 10-20 years old car, you will pay. Those car dealers a clever, there is always a customer that will pay to much for an old dino. But hey, EV's down here are almost company cars alone, 2nd hand market for those dinky toys is also very pricey for a normal private consumer...I have to say, drove in the Skoda Enyaq sometimes, that is a nice comfy ride I have to say. Not 'a bit difference' compared to older fuel cars but a galaxy ahead and that my friends is the simple truth. For now I will drive my V70 at least for a couple years and than it will be a decent EV some day, there is no other choice here, the government is on collision course to destroy the normal fuel powered cars, jay.........

I had a Mk1 S60 (post face-lift) diesel. It wasn't the most reliable car I've ever had - I spent way more money on repairs and maintenance on that car than any other I've owned. But I absolutely loved that car, best I've ever had - and I had it longer than any other. I was very sad to see it go when I changed it for a Mk2 post face-lift S60 diesel R Design - which I also love. As I understand it, Volvo aren't stopping making saloon cars and estates. They're just stopping selling them in the UK, apparently they sell far more SUV's here than cars. An utterly perverse decision if you ask me, the cars will become like rocking horse shit on the used market.

The last real Volvos were the 700 Series, they had a straight motor with rear wheel drive like every Volvo since 1927.
The 850 / V 70 was a complete change with 5 Cylinder traverse Motor and front wheel drive.
"This is not your Uncle Olaf's car".
If you study the development of the 850 you'll see that it is a complete other car compared
    to its earlier siblings.

Just picked up a manual V70 t5 for car booting and the odd long run and a C70 2.0t convertible for "shits and giggles" as the cars were very local and at the right price, seems a pattern with me why buy one when you can have many? Eventually they will replace Wife's Mazda and my Chrysler 300c touring. I have had most of the Volvo offerings in the past, except an Amazon and find it is an easy decision to buy them when the World seems plastic cross over SUV thingy mad! My other passion/monkey is Range Rovers so can stand a bit of pain and do my own maintenance. I do like the early pre dpf D5, they are great work horses and a pleasure to drive.
