Zf8 shifts are not slow by any means “200 millisecond”… especially with a transmission tune which takes it down to 60 milliseconds. Compared to a dct 50-75 milliseconds… most people can’t feel the difference between 100-200 milliseconds because it’s so minuscule. @@MrHCars so I’ve heard, you made me curious, lol. Google says upshifts take 50-60 ms for the pdk, while downshifts are around 90ms depending on conditions. instead of those odd looking flags and stripes on the sides, I think the side badge above the front wheel arches would look better. maybe even carry over the black bottom sides from the M240i too. the S58 is what makes this car so good though. id like to drop the S58 in the old M2 Comp!
Agree with everything except for having lower black bits like the M240, I love the body colored rockers and side of the diffuser. Those M performance fender flicks and winglets look tacky and unnecessary, looks much cleaner without them. Just drop it with some spacers, throw on a front splitter and a better trunk spoiler lip and this thing looks brutally good!
Good review. Have ordered one to replace my M2 Comp - both manual. One disappointment you didn't mention - although the new car is bigger in every direction the old one could take adults in the back comfortably, the new one can't because of reduced headroom. The better refinement suits me. (If I wanted a pure sports car everyone agrees a Cayman GTS 4.0 is better). Changing for that, the tech, the improved interior and generally being more modern. I buy for cash, otherwise I wouldn't change a car at current finance rates.
Good point on the back seats! I’ve read the m240i has poor head room in the back, so suspect the m2 is the same. My old f87 was brilliant for carrying 2 adults in the rear
This was a good and fair review as you talked about most the things ive noticed about both the F87 and G87. For example, the exhaust "utter" and i really dont like the spoedo and tach on the G87. I just want normal looking gauges. I owned an original 2017 M2.
Great vid! Are you lining one up when the gt4 comes off finance?! I saw a new one at a dealer next to the old M2, which I think now looks a bit dated. Quite like the square/ boxy shape. Loose the extra aero bits, lowering springs and sorted
I was on the same debate and ended up going with the an F87 Comp. The G87 is really fast and the interior is very techy and upgraded etc…. But I can’t stand how it looks…… the F87 just makes you FEEL like you are driving a drivers car and not a modern BMW like the G87 makes you feel….. sometimes it’s how it makes you feel etc
Great video and review. But those monthlies are nearly the same as my mortgage and my house is worth more than £75k. Surely it won’t be long before manufacturers are giving serious discounts to move units ?
I always thought E9x non-M and all F8x M cars had artificially heavy steering. My Z4M had the best steering of any BMW I have driven and it was very light, lighter than an E92 335i and lighter than my F87 M2 Competition. I don't think weight is necessarily correlated with feel or being good steering. The E36 had telepathic steering and was a bit heavy but I don't think that relationship has held over time. Actually, my old 2010 Mazda 3 has better steering feel than most modern cars but it is very light.
Just to add something about the hanging exhausts... there is actually a reason for them. nothing to do with being rushed etc... The hanging exhaust is a design feature for the M-Cars for better top speed. It is to eliminate the parachute effect from the rear bumper and create a cleaner streamlined airflow under the vehicle. This information came up during the development of a rear race diffuser for the F87 from a German engineering company.
@@MrHCars the OG wasn’t really a real M. No under floor M Aero, no M Mirrors no M seats etc etc. I have the M2 OG and Comp. The exhaust on the M2 OG is a modified M240i exhaust. The M2 also doesn’t have the option to exceed 250km/h from factory like all other M cars do
@@Hobby_Racer you’re playing with fire with that statement. I’m not coming to save you when the other viewers see it 😂 What about M5 then? No rear udder on that?
@@MrHCars haha no all good. I own my OG M2 since 2018 and love it!! I even got 102.000km on it. Especially the sound. Only have the M2 comp since 2 months and it sounds kinda trash compared 😂😂 But back to the Aero. The M5, M6 and M8 all have factory diffusers. The exhausts are twin pipe right and left and in the middle there are aero plates and even air tunnels for better high speed. There are more options on these higher priced cars than with the M2/M3/M4.
Great video as always 👏🏻👏🏻 The updates on the iD8 is up and coming taking it to iD8.5, which has taking on board customer feedback. Remember you can always use the 'Personal Assistant' function, which allows certain commands to be carried out, without the need to touch the screen etc. Looking forward to the next video.
Ah yes forgot the assistant 😅 Can tell I’m used to “old” 2018 tech 8.5 will be interesting to see. There’s a reason bmw still make the eBay infotainment. Appreciate the feedback Tim 👊🏼
M2 CS is just beautifull and very unique, especialy from front, with that hexagon modern angel eyes signature. G87 is just NEW,, but cube design will loose attraction very soon…and i yes, i saw many times g87 life. Its a huge GT car now like m4. Im not hater, g87 is quite ok to me, bud f87 CS is another level of design.
Pretty good analysis of the old M2 and the new M2. But my take on it: An M2 is not meant to be a daily usable sports car and that BMW now thinks otherwise, I personally think this is a turnaround that cannot be reconciled with the original idea Of "M-Sport" cars! BMW seems to have lost track for a while now, given also the multiple strange design deviations of several models that are really no improvement, in my humble opinion. As for the new M2, apart from the not very pleasing-looking model, the lack of Angel Eyes alone is also a signal to me that the current leadership at BMW has lost track quite a bit. I own an M2 and, given BMW's current trend, that may well be my last....
@@jamesrick7351 also in the UK insurance premiums are going through the roof due to the escalating cost of repairs and theft due to “keyless go”. As a result of this many companies won’t accept modifications and if they do the cost is crazy.
Very good review. I personally really like the styling of the new G87 M2 while I was never a huge fan of the F87. The issue is the new cars are so neutered that they don't feel special unless you are doing 100mph. I recently test drove the G80 M3 and was shocked that it feels more like a 5series saloon than an M3. My F80 maybe stiff and have a DCT that is jerky at slow speeds but it is raw experience and actually requires you to drive it. The new M cars can be driven by any random person, there is no edge to them which is great for sitting in traffic, sipping coffee and checking social media.
You are absolutely right I have a 23 M240X Dr. and it’s definitely only fun once you start to get on it. Besides you actually Horning around it is very nice and comfortable to live with essentially what BMW was going for is a daily driver that looks good and goes fast while being comfortable and they’re trying to move away from the more F-series sports car chassis.
Personally if I was looking to trade up to the new M2cs I'd have to know aside from the clear cabin development does the new car do the job of driving better because its a lot of money for a new dashboard otherwise.
There getting a bit fat beemers these days I’ve had a cs lovely and I do regret selling it. I’m driving a 1M now and I’ll never look back. I don’t think it could get any better.
My F87 Comp is coming up to three years old. While it is having it's brake fluid changed next month, I will have a test drive of the G87 but to be honest it is not making my wallet twitch!🤔
The old car is a work of art compared to the new one. The design of the new M2 is so wrong in so many ways. I’m sure it will sell, as they say there is beauty in the beholder, just like the person I saw today driving a Bentley Bentayga😂. Sorry but you can have all the money in the world, but it doesn’t automatically give you good taste!
Track users keep the competition with some suspension and brake pad-brake cooling upgrades max a cs software for the engine, for road keep the og m2. Skip this, with this wheel and tyre size mixed with the big weight the running cost is a lot for wearables, not talking about the list price for the new car is ridiculous

Just buy it in cash, don't pay 8,9% of interest rates... but yeah, like the old M2, also the new is not a "perfect car" and i always have the feeling, that i should wait for the competition/facelift. and why is erveryone comparing a brandnew M2 with a 2018 cayman GT4? at first, a GT4 is not a daily, you can't flip the backseats, the trunk is small, repair and service is way more expensive and yeah... 4 years old. at next we can compare, how many used sailing boats you could buy for that money or so :D

@@seanpoore500 probably the best gearbox on the market and lightning fast!
Be interesting to know the actual speed of that vs the others. I’ll have a google.
But I’d recommend getting behind the wheel of one just to exp it
@@MrHCars so I’ve heard, you made me curious, lol. Google says upshifts take 50-60 ms for the pdk, while downshifts are around 90ms depending on conditions. I think we can all agree that is lightening fast. One day hopefully soon I would love to experience a Porsche pdk. Until then I will continue to enjoy my zf8hp45 and n55. 🤙
instead of those odd looking flags and stripes on the sides, I think the side badge above the front wheel arches would look better. maybe even carry over the black bottom sides from the M240i too. the S58 is what makes this car so good though. id like to drop the S58 in the old M2 Comp!
Could probably be done, an engine swap 🤔
F87. OG to be specific! Tuned by Bend Calibration 💪🏾
This was a good and fair review as you talked about most the things ive noticed about both the F87 and G87. For example, the exhaust "utter" and i really dont like the spoedo and tach on the G87. I just want normal looking gauges. I owned an original 2017 M2.
The F87 is basically the peak baby M car. It looks stunning, it's fast, it's fun, and it's not too heavy or big.
F87 M2 comp is 1657 kg with full tank, its quite heavy too
@@KarolMaciejewski-b5z It's not a lightweight I agree, but it's not like the M4 which is nearing 2 ton.
Great vid! Are you lining one up when the gt4 comes off finance?!
I saw a new one at a dealer next to the old M2, which I think now looks a bit dated. Quite like the square/ boxy shape. Loose the extra aero bits, lowering springs and sorted
Ha no not yet, GT4 is sticking with me for a the time being.
Agreed! Some tasteful mods can make the g87 look really good
F87 all day. I even prefer the interior and simple screens.
Thanks Damian!!
But can your house do donuts? I didn’t think so 🤪
It has donuts as residents, does that count ?
@@damianmkv ill allow you that one 😂
Nice video mate, good job 🤙🏾
Thanks dude 👊🏼 appreciate it
I always thought E9x non-M and all F8x M cars had artificially heavy steering.
Great review, its rare to find a genuinely objective and balanced reviews these days
Thanks Jason! Appreciate the feedback 👊🏼
Makes sense.
But that doesn't explain the OG M2.... that didnt have a hanging udder and is an M car
I’m not coming to save you when the other viewers see it 😂
What about M5 then? No rear udder on that?
@@MrHCars haha no all good. I own my OG M2 since 2018 and love it!! I even got 102.000km on it. Especially the sound. Only have the M2 comp since 2 months and it sounds kinda trash compared 😂😂
But back to the Aero. The M5, M6 and M8 all have factory diffusers. The exhausts are twin pipe right and left and in the middle there are aero plates and even air tunnels for better high speed. There are more options on these higher priced cars than with the M2/M3/M4.
I've had the G87 for 2 months now, and I have an old F87. Both manual. Kept both....
Your thoughts on g87 against f87?
Great video, i like how you're not afraid to criticise the car.
Still a very beautiful car (the new M2)
F87 m2 CS is best M car in nearly 20 years
Great video as always 👏🏻👏🏻 The updates on the iD8 is up and coming taking it to iD8.5, which has taking on board customer feedback. Remember you can always use the 'Personal Assistant' function, which allows certain commands to be carried out, without the need to touch the screen etc. Looking forward to the next video.
Ah yes forgot the assistant 😅
Can tell I’m used to “old” 2018 tech
8.5 will be interesting to see. There’s a reason bmw still make the eBay infotainment.
Appreciate the feedback Tim 👊🏼
Also can’t you use the rotary control rather than touching the screen?
M2 CS is just beautifull and very unique, especialy from front, with that hexagon modern angel eyes signature. G87 is just NEW,, but cube design will loose attraction very soon…and i yes, i saw many times g87 life. Its a huge GT car now like m4. Im not hater, g87 is quite ok to me, bud f87 CS is another level of design.
Pretty good analysis of the old M2 and the new M2.
But my take on it:
An M2 is not meant to be a daily usable sports car and that BMW now thinks otherwise, I personally think this is a turnaround that cannot be reconciled with the original idea Of "M-Sport" cars!
Darker colors perfectly complement the boxy aggressive look
Has the older one sold can’t find it on their site
Great video!!! 😂 if I say so myself
The new M2 is highly constricted, it needs a stage 1 remap to bring out the potential. Great review 😊
I hear what you are saying but what about the warranty and insurance implications??
@@hpman911 if you got the money to mod BMWs then you oviously don't care about warranty
F87 without any doubt .......
Best review I ever got thank you
Glad I could help! Appreciate the feedback 👊🏼
I like the g87 ngl. Not a fan of any ot those M performance parts. BMW needs to leave that stuff to the aftermarket companies
Agreed! Some awesome kits that are available for the g80/82s!
You should try the m240i RWD and compare it to the new M2
good on bmw for the auto trans! dat always needs huge$$$ down the road for repairs
The new one is a lot more striking. People will definitely notice it because of its unique design
As an M2C owner I can't see any added value of owning this new M2. The next real step up is super car.
"Blocky"...lol well said!
Are GT4's really a similar price to a M2 in the UK? They're almost double the price in Australia
Great review as usual. Good as the G87 is, I just couldn’t live with the boxy, Lego design, so it’d be the F87 for me 😀
Appreciate the feedback 👊🏼
There getting a bit fat beemers these days I’ve had a cs lovely and I do regret selling it.
I’m driving a 1M now and I’ll never look back.
I don’t think it could get any better.
1M, something I’m yet to experience! But no doubt, one of the good ones. Enjoy!
The new M2 is a beast. Finally the size of a Classic: M3 e46
Keep your F87 CS and wait to see what the G87 CS offers. I'd still keep the F87 CS.
Why gt4s are so cheap in eu 😭 you got my hopes up and I checked the us price
The new M2 is top ❤
My F87 Comp is coming up to three years old. While it is having it's brake fluid changed next month, I will have a test drive of the G87 but to be honest it is not making my wallet twitch!🤔
Best G87 review I have a seen!
Appreciate for the feedback 👊🏼
Ur wrong about the shifts. The ms are faster then in a g82 m4
Dope car. Wish the steering was heavier. Might upgrade to one from a GR Supra 3.0
That steering is very light too, I know this because I own one. Really hate the overall light steering
The new m2 looks like it’s JDM.
No usable back seats tho
F87 is still CBU in germany, G87 is made in mexico....
F87 is a playful car, G87 is a fast car....
F87 is best lokin wif sharp curve, G87 loks SQ tat dun las long
Driving a german QC car wif satisfaction tats F87
Stock exhaust?
Completely stock
Thanks Tim, very informative.
Brilliant 🥲😂
That carbon pack on the G87. 🤮
I mean it does look cracking in person, however, those side blades are fucking awful
😂😂 I’ll wait to see what other brands can produce
They are an optional extra cost add on and I agree no way would I spec them !!
It's sad that the old model looks like the new model.
Great spec on that cs! 🤌🏼
///M2 is a beautiful car, the front shares e46 vibes and the rear shares e90 vibes, the only sad thing is that BMW became a troll object on social media.
I'm fascinated by these M2's.. This is coming from a C7 Corvette owner. Regarding the financing.. Why would a guy only put down $4500.. That's crazy! Should put down at least 20k. JMO of course.
Maybe not quite as exotic / Supercar feeling. But definitely extremely engaging.
Not financial advice, but not everyone can afford a deposit that’s 1/3 of the car value + some would rather deposit less and keep 15k in their bank for other things
@@MrHCars I get that, I don't use all my money on a down payment either, but $1000/mo? 80% of people can't do that. I wish I could find one of these cars to drive.
@@failingup4907 oh I get you. Put more down so the monthly’s are more manageable.
For sure! But shows how expensive these cars currently are in 2023 😕
@@MrHCars I totally agree and the out of control interest.
I’m glad I didn’t see this review before getting my 2023 M2C. It’s amazing…and I traded in a 2020 M2C. I hope all of the fan boys have a great time commenting. I’m just chilling with my new 2023 M2C.
The new M2 is really a smaller version of M3 and M4. Keeping my OG M2^^
Why is there an ad like every 5 minutes lol
Do voice commands work for climate control?
Yep they do
Was looking to trade the JCW up to a F series M240i, but the finance is currently a disgusting 12.9% at most dealers. And for BMW approved used they are at 13.9% 🤮🤮
Tried Charles & Dean? 🤓 tell them I sent you 🤪
Love the Bauhaus look of the G87....
I AM AGREE WITH YOU , THE NEW M2 LOOKS EXTRANGE , LOOKS LIKE THE FIRS ONE 1M WHAT LOOKS LIKE A FRANKEINSTEIN!!!
G87 is going next to my F87 in a few years
Looks are subjective but the old gen looks objectively better.
Let’s cut straight to the chase. The G87 is a Lego set assembled in Mexico and looks similar to a thoroughly used public toilet. But that F87 is a timeless and beautiful masterpiece and the last true M2 made in Germany
i have an m2 cs, for me thé only move now is porsche…i can’t understand what BMW are doing to their long term fans, the new pricing strategy and design is not for me
new one actually looks better/more aggressive. no doubt it'll also be a better driving machine like the g80/82 is over the f80/82.
❤😎💪🏽M2!!!
I love the color
For me, boxy design is a win, it gives more character and unique among all sport cars on roads today.
Great video bro
Thanks mate ❤️❤️
yr
traded my 16 in for a 24 its on order
Giddy up Batman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately you can only get the new M2 in black to hide some of the ugliness. The previous model looked good in any color.
I like the new m2. It costs 102000 english pounds in my country. Id rather buy a porsche for that kind of money.
New M2 looks way better
You’re smoking crack
