One of my all-time favourite live experiences was Black Grape at T in the Park 96 (I think). Baking hot, the air full of dust from the crowd going mental and Shaun and the boys rocking the afternoon. Magic.
Come on... this should have way more views/listens. I remember my older brother got me onto happy mondays and then the later black grape stuff was really underrated imo
Album changed my life. Bez looks fantastic in that suit. Shaun got one thing mixed up: Alan Shepard, America's 1st man in space, brought a golf club "6 iron" head (and two balls to hit) on Apollo 14. Fixed the head to the end of a sample collecting tool and swung it one-armed due to the limitations of the space suit. First one was a duff, second went about five yards, described on-camera as "Miles and miles and miles." Golf balls are still where they landed, the makeshift club is in the Smithsonian. So it was the "first big suit" but not Armstrong. We forgive the mistake many times over! and listen/watch in just as much awe as in 1995. Now give me my Jellies.
@@hernanbruno4178 me too, we technically shouldn't even know this band since they weren't known in the US, MTV was very helpful in that respect as long as a band had a catchy video
Sean’s career now consists of touring the world telling people about his ufo experience. He wasn’t exactly abducted, he ....err,....... saw some lights in the sky. Well, fair enough, we can’t all get stolen off the streets and have an aliens finger up the arse. Meanwhile this is their best song, it’s as derivative as fuck but catchy pop songs are, I love it.
This is almost perfect accidental comedy...love the self-possessed furrowed brows and completely off, mixed metaphors...delivered with such conviction! This isn't so wrong it's good - it's so bad it's absolutely hilarious but quite sweet in a way...Good job boys you saved Africa from the white imperialist devils with your rock and roll and deep insight!!! lol...
Muscial masterpiece; feel-good dancable music driven by witty verse. The sort of music that played loudly won't annoy the neighbours. Conversly, it'll attract them ;0)

I appreciate sean was trying to do something different with black grape but I never liked the inclusion of kermit it felt out of place, had some decent tunes but the production was too clean.. I used to know the guitarist Wags back in the day and I remember he gave me a cassette recording he had of the band jamming in the studio and it was fucking fantastic. Like a mixture of Love, Can, and Beefheart but with that unique sleazy urban grittiness and wit that made the mondays so special... I wish I still had a copy of that cassette as it really was very special
It reminds me of Big Audio Dynamite 🧨 Don Letts helped to add a lot to their tunes, I would say that Kermit did similar here, and with this band . He seems like he’ll be a great toast too when I hopefully see them in November …
The whole album is a masterpiece

Heard this song on the radio in New Orleans back in 1996. Didn't know the name of it. Took me 20 years of searching to finally find it.
I heard it for the first time on MTV. Seems like yesterday.
