Many people don't know that Van Halen opened for Y&T. As did Motley Crue & Metallica. And Dave was asked to join Ozzie Osborn when Randy passed. Y&T was one of the most undertreated bands of all time.
Saw them 83 in the Festhalle Frankfurt and it was a brutal kick ass gig. Crystal clear and brutally loud. One of the best 3 gigs i´ve seen of my plus 1500 gigs.
My first job as a guitar instructor was when I worked in Dave Menikettis' grandfathers music/furniture store in Oakland Ca. Mr Meniketti could rip on accordian.
Praise the lord!!! Finally, after requesting almost a year ago!!! Y&T's the best live and I've ever seen, and that's coming from an Aussie who catches them on every trip to the US. If you haven't seen them live, you don't know what you're missing. Dave Meniketti is a major unsung hero, criminally underrated and unfortunately much neglected in the US, compared to the European market. More Y&T please Dave Brewster!!!
Back to the days where there were still music stores: I had heard "Rescue Me" on the radio and I went to the store and said: Looking for an album by a band which I guess is called "Earthshaker". And the guy said, "nah, boy, Earthshaker is the album, the band is called Y&T". - Loved them ever since.
Awesome Chordplay David. Y&T usually tour the UK every Autumn (fall) and still kick ass live. Dave Meniketti still has the voice and the chops, killer musician.
Y&T is my favorite band, and i enjoyed this video so much. All those songs are so special to me and to hear someone else play them other than Dave is awesome. You are such a great player and made them sound amazing, thank you!!!!!!!!
Hey David, great choice. I saw Dave Meniketti and band (Yesterday and Today) at Winterland on Steiner in SF when I was fourteen. They were one of my favorites since then. I was born in 56 and Meniketti wasn't too much older. This is one of those bands that should've been bigger than they were but. Over the years I've seen them at nightclubs mostly. Peace out.
I am so proud that you have done an episode in my fave band from the bay area. The orig line up was amazing to watch hear and open for back in the 80s we played 3 huge shows with them. All were sell outs
Saw Y&T the first time in 1985 at Day on the Green with Metallica, Ratt. Scorpions and Yngwie and Y&T they were awesome and saw them again a couple of years ago at Thunder Valley Casino and Dave's voice and playing were still awesome....great bay area Band.
Killer Vid! Thick, kick-ass chords, and heavy rock and roll. She's on a Mean Streak. She's been on a mean streak for a while. His guitar, that is. The delay on this is just killer, too. I mean.... even that acoustic line is just a stone-cold killer. Yeah. This is good stuff.
In 2009 I was in a band called Sekshun 8, and we got to open for Y&T, Meneketti has always been one of my favorite players. He was such a nice guy, and he played through my rig. He’s what a rock star should be!!
How did I miss this? I wish I could have seen them live! Dave Meniketti - talented man. Check out his version of Loan Me a Dime! Might be revealing my trailer park boy roots but April Wine? Killer live.
Frickin' GREAT Lesson! I knew, and Loved the Y&T "Black Tiger" album years ago, but I really didn't realize there was so much More Y&T Killer Riffage! Thanks Dave!
@@RiffMusic1970 I know! I have never doubted that!, We Do have characteristic resemblance's (Portuguese Name/Heritage for Sure) All my Alves Side of family originally came from Merced & Nor Cal! Which Y & T definitely is from Nor Cal & Bay Area!
Absolutely loved them back in the late 70s into mid 80s, one of my favorite bands. I remember having Y&T, Whitespace, Dokken and others on regular rotation in the Kraco in my car in '82, '83 and '84 before most were really into them.
👍👍👍 Such a great band and Dave has always been an awesome six stringer. Heard them back in the late 70's before the name change and have followed them since. Sad that Dave is the only original founding member left, Rip to Joey, Phil and Leonard as all have passed away. Great lesson and thanks for doin Y&T...😉
In my opinion Earthshaker is one of the 5 best metal Albums of all time. Bought it when it came out and still love it today. Play nearly every song of it on my ESP.....and that kicked ass.
Really enjoy how you go into such depp on every episode of the different styles of music that you cover. I would love for you to do a feature on one of my top 5 metal guitarist/ CHRIS OLIVA of Salvatage ! Thks, n keep up the great work !!
Contagious should have been Y&Ts break-through album, it's absolutely amazing - but 1987 man between Whitesnake, Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet gaining traction, Hysteria, and Guns and Roses debut it just got absolutely buried by other massive breakout hits.
Good job. Need some Meniketti licks, too, when you get a chance. KILLER lead player and a great guy, too (I've interviewed him twice). I always kind of thought of his lead style as sort of a cross between Schenker and Gary Moore -- you said Sykes -- which is the same tree (and right up my alley).
Great video! I heard of Y&T back in the day bet never listened to them except when I heard them on The Dee Snider show or Eddie Trunk. Love the beginning riff!
Great band! Contagious is just such a great jam! I F'n love that song, and the video! And don't get me started on Summertime Girls! Such a great rockin tune man. And again, the video is what the 80's was all about! GREAT video bro!
They took "Yesterday and Today" from The Beatles' album if the same name. Y&T also shared management with Journey when they began, but the management team split with Herbie Herbert taking Journey to major label success. The other manager did get Yesterday and Today signed to London Records for their first two albums, which unfortunately caused them to only be available in the United States as imports. Dave Meniketti isn't underrated just as a guitarist, but also as a vocalist, though he did get the honor of Ronnie James Dio choosing him to kick the first verse of the charity song "STARS" for Dio's Hear'N'Aid project. Other really cool songs to explore for future lessons might be "Forever", "Wind of Change", and "I Believe in You". I consider the last one Dave's tour-de-force both instrumentals and vocally....Metal-Soul Music!
Like you I played guitar most my life up until 2017,when my 'ol lady divorced me. I have not played since. Hell of a thing divorce. I do ,however really enjoied watching your lessons alot. Thank you
Think Dave Menikketti owes you a bottle of his wine,👍saw them on 45th anniversary tour in Newcastle, packed crowd still amazing, specially I believe in you solo
Great episode! Been waiting for this one. Y&T as well as other pop metal bands took a back seat to VH's endless assault up into the mid 80's. It's amazing how many bands there actually was back then. Great stuff. A lot of guitar laden rock. It was endless. "In Rock We Trust" was a great album, back when you could still get albums. I miss those day's.
Hey How about doing a video about Neil Giraldo? One of the great underrated players I think. You could talk about his work with Rick Springfield on the song "Jessie's girl" as well as maybe dissecting some of the great song, "Hell is for children".
Well, you know they have a song called "beautiful dreamer", and Van Halen opened up for them at least 3 nights in Hollywood back in the early days per Mike Anthony. They say great minds think alike. Check out "On with the Show", Yesterday and Today (Y&T) documentary. Eye opening stuff. Dave Meniketti is another one of those great guitar players that doesn't get that recognition. He has so many tasty solos! And Joey Alves had some of the monster riffs we're familiar with like "Rescue Me"! The Bon Jovi stuff is a producer they had. Thanks for this Y&T moment!🎸✌🏽
As always brother. Your lessons are outstanding. I always am riveted how you explain. I have started my channel. Very novice and I’m doing one take ideas while I’m motivated. It’s harder than people think. I would appreciate your input. Peace and love
Hey David, how about Krokus, Eddie Money or Loverboy? What's the difference with the Phase 90 and Phase 95 you have posted on your video? LED lights? Don't Stop Runnin' Reminded me a little of Bon Jovi's "She Don't Know Me" song on a slower tempo and with slight chord variations.
Always good guitar knowledge coming from your channel. Thanks. I know you did a ChordPlay of Thin Lizzy about 6 months ago, but would love to get your take on the solo style of Scott Gorham.
Too many “Y&T was” or “Y&T were” comments. Dave Meniketti still sings great and his playing is spot on. I’m pretty sure they’re still performing.
Y&T in their day, we’re such an underrated band with a lot of great tunes
I have their first 5 albums on vinyl. So underrated. Thanks for the video sir!
Many people don't know that Van Halen opened for Y&T. As did Motley Crue & Metallica. And Dave was asked to join Ozzie Osborn when Randy passed. Y&T was one of the most undertreated bands of all time.
Saw this band live three times and they always delivered! Dave Meniketti is a gifted guitarist AND a great singer!
Saw them 83 in the Festhalle Frankfurt and it was a brutal kick ass gig. Crystal clear and brutally loud. One of the best 3 gigs i´ve seen of my plus 1500 gigs.
Thank you. Y & T forever. Seen these guys four times and twice just prior to COVID. Unsung heroes of Rock. Dave still delivers like he is 25.
My first job as a guitar instructor was when I worked in Dave Menikettis' grandfathers music/furniture store in Oakland Ca.
Mr Meniketti could rip on accordian.
Bought my first Guitar there in 87 ish a Ibanez destroyer there was a big poster of Y & T behind the counter
I saw these guys in Modesto California in 2002 in a really small venue. They were awesome. What a treat.
One of my all time favourite bands so underrated
Such an underrated band, Dave Meneketti's vibrato is killer
Praise the lord!!! Finally, after requesting almost a year ago!!! Y&T's the best live and I've ever seen, and that's coming from an Aussie who catches them on every trip to the US. This lesson is "getting dangerous, it's contagious,
(Ohh - ohh -ohh)
It's outragious, it's contagious"
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Personal favs: 1st IN ROCK WE TRUST, 2nd MEANSTREAK, 3rd BLACK TIGER. Pretty much have all their albums.
Lipstick and Leather:) Black and Red !!Whoa Yeahhhhhh!!!!
Awesome Chordplay David. Y&T usually tour the UK every Autumn (fall) and still kick ass live. Dave Meniketti still has the voice and the chops, killer musician.
I saw them back in the 80's and I remember thinking that he was so awesome because he did it all, lead singer and rhythm/lead guitarist
I Agree, I thought the same thing! I even thought he was like a Better Paul Stanley than Paul Stanley himself! Lol😆
Y&T is my favorite band, and i enjoyed this video so much. All those songs are so special to me and to hear someone else play them other than Dave is awesome. You are such a great player and made them sound amazing, thank you!!!!!!!!
Dave Meniketti such good coz and vibrato on the guitars Mean Streak!! They still play live and are just as good as in the 80’s.
Don't stop Running my favorite been working on that one - great job! Bought my first Guitar in Oakland at the Music and Furniture Store

Band.
Yeah saw that concert when they opened for Tesla there. It was such a great show!
I’ve haven’t heard Y & T for years such a killer band

I was really hoping to see Struck Down and Mean Streak, their 2 best tunes, featured here. Oh well, maybe next time.
Thank you!! More please. Forever; Ballroom Boogie, Meanstreak, 🤘🏼
Dave Meniketti- on the blue side! Awesome album,, thanks Dave,,🤘🤘
In 2009 I was in a band called Sekshun 8, and we got to open for Y&T, Meneketti has always been one of my favorite players. He was such a nice guy, and he played through my rig. He’s what a rock star should be!!
That was killer. Loved it. Very underrated band
open fire live ! is a fantastic album. Wish there was more "in the style of " Dave on the web
Their rhythm guitar player was Joey Alves. You might be related!

Thanks for taking the time for one of my favorite bands!
Thanks for going over all of these underrated guitarists! More Steve Clark for me please!

love the show and at last Y AND T yeah
cool riffs. I never listen to y n t but they have some great guitar player and thanks David always have fun with the lessons .
Contagious should have been Y&Ts break-through album, it's absolutely amazing - but 1987 man between Whitesnake, Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet gaining traction, Hysteria, and Guns and Roses debut it just got absolutely buried by other massive breakout hits.
Thanks for doing this breakdown on one of my favorites Dave!
Y&T generally doesn't get enough love or respect.
Awesome David, I’ve been waiting for some Dave Meniketti, one of my favorites! Please do 3 Meniketti licks next!!! 🤘🎸👌
Oh yeah! This is gonna be real good. Please
keep up the awesome work. There is nothing like it on the net.
Heck yeah. I’ve played many Y&T song’s in the bars. My two favorites to play were Black Tiger and Forever. Mean Streak was killer also. Good stuff.
FYI Van Halen used to open for Y&T, so maybe Little Dreamer was lifted from Y&T?
73 van halen opened up for y&t in the 70's at the starwood in LA
Ooooh, saw Y&T.....knew it would be good....awesome David!!!
This is great David. Great riffs. Thanks
👍👏😃
cool band!! thank

Y&T were awesome. Gotta love those Meniketti changes. Can you do a Tygers Of Pan Tang lesson?
Awesome job breaking these down! Thank you! Criminally underrated band with killer riffs. Cheers!

The riff before solo in Forever is sick
Great!
I always liked Summertime Girls. The release of Contagious really made me a fan.
Saw them in Detriot Hapos in the 80s. They were fantastic.
Harpos god I spent a lot of time going to shows there during the 80s. Saw Static X there last year. Same old shit-hole!
So pleased you opened up with Pleasure In My Heart. One of my all time favourite Y & T tracks !!
The pedeling B note was played by Joey Alves
Love your work brother!! 👍🏻
What’s great is the man behind the killer guitar also has a killer voice. They are good time rock n roll!
Yay! Y&T!!!
Thank you!
Side note: Black Tiger and Mean Streak are my favorites!!
Mean streak is a great album, I saw Y & T at Donnington Monsters of Rock back in the eighties.
They did a version of your mama don’t dance the was cool. Rocked it
they're my favorite band Dave Rocks 1st time I seen them was new years eve 82 at the cowpalace in San Francisco
Just notice in background Jeff Beck , have the same framed album in my music room & know how too play Where were you . YEP Y&T .
Good lesson. Thanks Dave. How about a Helix lesson?
Dreams of Egypt is a cool track
Is that a V-Amp Pro I see? Love mine. Love Y&T also!
Can you do the chords of Triumph?
Yeah!!!! Spot on Dave!! 😎😎
Y&T was Oakland Cali band. They probably saw VH in the clubs.
I saw Y&T in the 80s at the Channel in Boston in a midday show sponsored by WBCN FM for $2, a free beer, and 1 free hot dog. They were a R&R machine!
I’m going to see them for the 3rd time in the Netherlands. First time was in 1982 !!
Cool lesson David, I was waiting for Summertime Girls haha. Please do another Ratt and Yngwie chordplay lesson!

I Love your Stuff brother you are So Authentic Thank You Man🙏👊
Thank you for some Y&T!
Is there a chance for some Pete Lasperence from Harem Scarem any time soon?
Sir love your lessons, i was wondering whether you can show us some of Scott mishoes style from his omnidirectional album, thanks.....
How about doing the Chords of the Killer Dwarfs? Lots to choose from there. Maybe Stand Tall, Power, and I'm Alive?
Try doing an episode on the chords of Rob Dean from Japan. He’s not quite a guitar hero per se but he did some interesting work in that group.
