U.S. Army Reception Battalion

  • Reception Battalion (RECBN) is the period that begins when the recruit arrives at the Army post where he or she is to undergo Basic Training. Instead of spending a full day processing each individual, the US Army likes to spread out the processing to offer each soldier plenty of waiting time each day for the one to three weeks that it can take to finish the entry processing.

    If you want to experience what Reception is like before shipping, go to a hospital and find a bench to sit on. You can't look at your phone, you can't talk to anyone, you can't sleep, you just sit and wait. After an hour, get up, fill out a piece of paper with your personal information, find a new bench to sit on for another hour, and repeat. Your only breaks are a 30 minute break for lunch and dinner.
    Reception is my worst nightmare. I'm not exaggerating, I have had nightmares about being back at Reception. Comparing the worst parts of Red Phase (having to wake up in the middle of the night to get smoked because someone fell asleep on fireguard) to Reception, I'd rather do Red Phase again.

      I was in Reception for 16 days in September 1997. Too many incoming soldiers, not enough available units. I agree, it is like prison. At least Once you get to basic you can count down the days. Reception was like anticipating Day 0 for over 2 striaghr weeks.

      Funko, You must score a minimum of 31 on the Armed
      Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. This is a test that measures a person’s potential in given fields based on a person’s strengths and weaknesses. For enlistment, the test allows the Army to match these to all of its specialties in the Army and Army Reserve. The scores are used to determine
      career paths and incentives. You will received what is available to you during your enlistment process and you will get to pick out of the list. (DYR)

    I see the Army has added PT testing during reception. We had two guys that had to be recycled because they could not even train much less pass the APFT. I also have heard there is a PT standard prior to actual report to active duty, another good idea. During my day you had to complete SQT prior to graduation fron OSUT. I understand the Army is bringing back a form of SQT. Good deal, good luck to everybody joining.

    For people wondering reception is the worst experience you’ll ever go through especially in fort Leonard wood there’s no pt test no more they can’t smoke you in reception but they will yell at you if necessary also it will be the longest days of your life all you do there is sit stay quiet read you blue book and wait in line for hours it’s like meps but way worse and longer you’ll do hearing test dental, eye exam, blood drawn, you’ll get like 8 shots including butt shot then be shipped to basic within a week. Basic is much better you’ll get a lot of sleep compared to reception

  • @Zer0Mood

    • @FutureSoldierCenter
      @FutureSoldierCenter  7 років тому +3

      Reavis, no it is not the same. Meps Military Entrance Processing Station is a Department of Defense joint-service organization staffed with military and civilian professionals. MEPS determines applicant's physical qualifications, aptitude and moral standards as set by each branch of military service. Here is a link for more information: www.goarmy.com/learn/your-visit-to-meps.html The Reception BN is when new recruits arrive at their BT installation they process through the Reception Battalion prior to starting Basic. During the 4-7 day process, you will be issued uniforms, receive initial pay, visit the PX, barber shop, receive various briefings, complete personnel affairs documentation, receive shots and are given a thorough dental check. It’s wack that it’s 13. Weeks now BUT , thanksgiving and Christmas / New Years should make your training be shorter. I went from 9/14/15 to the day before thanksgiving and my training wasn’t exactly 10 weeks , it was 8.5. Just listen to your drill sergeants and keep your mind FOCUSED. It’s all a mental game barely physical. Good luck
