I HAD heard of it. I tried finding out more about it, but I had forgotten its name. I did my best to search for "upcoming pvp shooters" and similar, looked through lists of all upcoming games on gaming sites, but found nothing. So I was waiting for it to come out so there would be some buzz on the internet. Now I realize it's already out, but there was no buzz. I'll play it if they clean it up and make it better, and if they ever add text and voice chat.

I'd only heard of the cat/kangaroo character and kinda liked their character design, but yeah, other than that it's totally flown under my radar and that's probably just as well with a half formed game

My first thoughts
except paragon was really fun when it launched
Paragon I miss that game.
@THE VOID 2 weeks late but they radically changed their vision for how it runs as a MOBA multiple times. The game used to be a lot slower and had long play times due to the large map, so they re-designed the entire map to speed up gameplay. This rapidly shifted Jungling which they seemed to both like and dislike early on. They changed the way items worked multiple times. They continually shifted general stats and the way timers for things like Jungle mobs. The developers never really settled on their design. Maybe that changed towards the end but I can easily imagine them changing it massively again in another year.

- Never heard anything about this from anyone or any of my usual sources and haunts

I couldn't SAVE myself from the ad bombardment Amazon threw at me about this. Email, Prime Video, Amazon Frontpage... it's bloody everywhere in germany.
yeah this game has zero cross-over interests with the hero fighter genre. it's straight up anthem gameplay reskinned to look more stylized
@@titus17 It's a shame it's this bad, some of the character designs DO look really interesting. Here's hoping Amazon doesn't just drop the project and fire everyone involved. Shame their very first project is already going to test wether or not they have to the stamina to turn this thing into a Rainbow Six Siege / Warframe success story
The only reason I heard about it is because it occasionally popped up in articles about the LotR MMO Amazon is making. The other studio working on that is Athlon Games, which is brand new so it will be their first game. So one relatively new studio, and one brand new studio are working on an MMO together. I really hope it's good because I love LotR, but I'm like 99% sure it's going to suck.

deer people smh...but I think the more likely cause is the new regulations on USA games communication have to be accessible to everyone, like it needs text to voice, voice to text ect. cause apparently blind people play video games
When I tried the Anthem beta, there was no text either. They said that there were new rules stating that to have text chat, you HAD to add accessibility features like voice-to-text and text-to-voice. I'm currently playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It has text chat, but I don't think it has voice-to-text and text-to-voice. So what's going on? Is anyone familiar with what the rules are now?
"Third person shooter/brawler moba" seems to be a cursed genre.
At first, it was cursed because good games died due to executive decisions and all-around unfortunate situations that no one could have predicted. I did not expect that Paragon would die but Paladins would still be around. I like Paladins but I definitely preferred Paragon. Now executives decided it was alright to make an unholy abomination like Pizza Cake Icecream. Do you eat it hot or cold? No one can fucking tell. It doesn't help that the game is nauseating to watch, really dizzying anytime an enemy was on screen so no one wanted to watch it on Twitch.

Developers simply don't know how to make it work. Game developers need 1 smart person in their team. Listen and do what JUST he/she says.
I would be able to give game developers amazing full game details for multiple genres. These games would be the next hit.
Yep. Nothing about these games feel good. 3rd person games feel best as is single player experiences. 🤷♂️
@@thebeejabides9282 A lot of it comes down to if there's a focus on Player vs Player Combat.
Otherwise you can have a pretty rich hack&slash online experience with friends in a PvE environment like Dragon's Dogma Online, PSO2, and similar Dungeon/Instance-based Online RPGs- and those are old examples. Regardless, these feel good because of the amount of hit flash, stun/shake, haptic and similar time-dilation focused feedback elements when slicing up multiple Mobs at once.
Against another Player, being constantly juggled or stunned isn't fun so the real-time combat balance ends up becoming difficult.
A lot of these titles seem unsure of what they want to be at a core and where the key polish lies (Moba Composition / Brawler / TPS) which leads to confusion with genre naming what target audiences expects.
It really sucks the dev team pushed to have this game "release" when it did, there's a few things this game does so well, (characterization/backstory, world detail, gameplay loop, lore and design) and it deserves to try, but they shot themselves in the foot with this "launch."
This should have been early access at the least, if not a closed alpha/beta test. The sheer amount of server fixes within the first day should be indicative how well the team is able to fix problems, but first impressions are everything for multiplayer-only games, and Crucible is dropping the ball.

The fault of the devs is not putting it into the early access titles even though they refer to it as a beta time aka "Pre-season".
@@woolf123 I can get into a match in less than a minute. I also am connecting to NA west servers so it may be different for EU or NA east servers.

The mobility balance needs a major overhaul. You can just play as the flamethrower lady or the little teleporting bunny and literally dance around an enemy team, kill one of them, then dash away faster than any other character

This crucible is a terrible version of gambit, even gambit is terrible. Gambit prime is slightly better.
@@varnix1006 Gambit Prime is awesome when you know how to win in it and have at least one competent guy that knows his hammerhead. Shame I won't be playing D2 anymore since they've decided to ruin hours of my work by introducing weapon sunsetting.

@Christopher Simon Can confirm. The pay-to-win is real in D2. Basically, 90% of amazing weaponry is behind the paywall. Toaster, xenophage, Izanagi's burden, Anarchy, just to name a few.
I feel sorry for the artists that worked on the game. It must have felt awful knowing they were shipping an unfinished product.
I feel like you could have opened this video without saying it was like Anthem and just some cold footage and a "Look familiar?" would suffice, because wow it is tragically similar at the barest glance.
The gaming industry’s definition of innovation means going backwards. It’s a surprise that a near trillion dollar company only wants to make crap games based on market research to milk us dry. They can make an open world lord of the rings game that’s bigger and better looking than rdr2 with the change that falls out of bezos pocket. A game where I can ride ma steed to the shire and do a side quest for a drunk hobbit who lost his expensive barrels of wine, only to find them at his wife’s boyfriends house

The first time I heard about crucible was when I read an article saying it was cancelled. I had no idea this game even existed. Good job Amazon, dont market your first ever game as a publisher. I don't think I would buy an Amazon published game anyhow because seriously, Amazon is just going to be selling us everything soon and well have to beg for water rations from them in 20 years. Your review took the words right out of my mouth. Every hour I put into it I felt what they were going for but knew it didn't feel refined. When I alpha tested Anthem I had the same feeling and knowing that it was supposed to come out only a few months later I could only feel bad for the team working on it. They really need to either take it down and release it next year or offer the current player base a promise of improvements and rename it as a Testing phase where any money you spend will be refunded.
Even in Doom whenever I hear Crucible, I still hear Lennie James yelling.

It's simply crazy that in an industry where trends come and go so fast a significant percentage of players barely notices it, developers and publishers completely sh*t on their opportunity to make a good first impression. Crazy from financial and common sense perspective.

The appearance and aesthetic isn't appealing nor original, the graphic is alright but nothing to write home about, it stands in between Anthem and Dauntless, I prefer if it could commit and go in one way or the other instead of in this awkward state imo but it's a subjective preference I guess, the characters look meh, the weapon design looks fine, the shooting looks meh, the melee looks meh, the game mod sounds interesting but lack polishing

Warframe isn't perfect, it has a lot of flaws but at least it works as a game, same for Destiny but the same can't be said for Anthem or this game, such a shame
I bet if you took a peek at the source code in this game, you'll see much of it mirroring Anthems. I'm sure by not Anthem was sold, dissected and repackaged as a "new game" to Amazon.
Since you reminded me of Paragon, remember when Epic made new games, and not just one live service? I remember they’d make Gears of War, Unreal Tournament, and other projects like Paragon.
The little robot character literally has the little boy TTS voice from Twitch donations, they didn't even try.

Yeah ive been telling my clan mates that New world will be a flop, but they are so hyped and blind that there is no point. So i will just wait and see
I worked on New World as a freelancer for a single month, don't expect much from that game. My boss told me most of the people who worked on it left and got replaced, and they don't really know what they are doing.
Feels like these Amazon studios are only there for the paycheck.
@J Sure, different developers, but same publisher. And much like Crucible, New World also seems to have continuous identity crises. It started off as full loot full pvp sandbox mmo, and now it's just another pve focused, instanced themepark mmo.
The people in charge of these games have no idea what they want, or what customers want.
I had no hope for New World ever since I saw the first gameplay trailers. Budget WoW. The cinematic trailers were great. But I'm now of firm belief that you don't spend a cent until you see an external gameplay review.

So, amazon goes into the game industry in a way of "we want money from there", has no idea what it's doing, so makes a game that works for "everything and everyone", so it ends up working for no one....

This came out in May and no one I know (including me) knew about it until today, when we heard it was dead.
Skill up beat the dead horse that is Anthem to a bloodied pulp. Anthem's corpse has been on the ground for like 6 months and Skill up walks over and starts kicking it, hilarious.
You almost made me wake up my kid because I almost burst out laughing, 🤣.
this is a common trend for most video games now, they wanna make something that everybody likes, but ended up with something no one likes it much, and a few weeks later, it just fallen into obscure...
When you reminded me of paragon, I just wish they had made the game more like an arena brawl game as opposed to a MOBA. That game felt so smooth.

At least Cycle had alright shooting in it, and the movement felt at least good.
This one here is idk... if bazilliondollar companies cannot develop at least playable games, then I don't know what the hell we will be playing in 5 - 10 years besides remasters of remasters of remakes or indie games only.

An overwatch/Fortnite knockoff by AMAZON sounds like something that should stay in the oven.
Last thing we need is another multibillion corporation in the industry thinking producing mobile game level of multiplayer games will make them buckets of money. I'm very happy this thing flopped.
Niche is certainly there, you do not need proof just look at Warframe. The game you make just needs to be good.

A lot of Arenanet devs left Guild Wars 2 to go work for Amazon on this game, and just like previous project they had poor project management and a lack of singular, solid vision.

2:30 What is also brilliant about Crucible is that you may find it harder to find matches, because people are queueing up with the same hunter you've picked.
You can't have the same one in the team, so if you picked a popular one, you may end up waiting longer. 10/10 design.

The voice of Bugg is actually a text-to-speach program, no joke. If I'm not mistaken it uses Amazon's own Polly system.
7:36 So it's a hero shooter where you pick your hero and then the server randomly assigns you to a team. That right there is a Cursed Problem and the game is doomed unless they step back and completely change everything. Most everything else can be tweaked, but this is something they likely don't even realize is a game-ruiner. What a waste.

Skill Up you should take a look at The Cycle. Still in Early Access on Epic ( epic bad hehe ) but its alot of fun!

If like to inform you that one of the ads on this video were for crucible. Using the words ‘Best shooter of 2020’ were the central words of the ad. I know you can’t control that, I just found the ad placement amusing

The pun is actually great. What's bad is the delivery. Which is basically the entire game in a nutshell.

This game has a lot of potential, sad to see how it's not doing very good.

Ive been playing and enjoying Crucible, despite it's issues, and it takes me less than 30 seconds to find a match here in the US.
PvP games could act weird , a friend in Canada claimed it took him and his buddy 45 minutes to find a match for Apex. I haven't played Apex in months but don't even know how that could be possible.
Yeah but we have other games here that aren't like that, meaning that if other games can have decent international servers or net code, it is a valid point
At level 5 I didnt chose the bomb for tosca since it ruins her main strength stealth

@@807D14M0ND5 The fact they did zero research about the fact that Crucible is associated with Destiny and maybe they shouldn't use that name.
A month later and the game recedes back into alpha, like you suggested. Nice.
I know how they could improve this. After the respawn sequence, there should be a Suicide Squad intro with text with some tidbits about their history, and all the other characters should pause to give exposition about how badass they are.
The most important thing I got from this, is that skill up plays league.

Never played anthem, but this feels more akin to a moba than a looter shooter grind fest.
Looks graphically kinda like an extremely watered down Evolve too imo.

SOMETHING TO NOTE! This game I strongly believe is just a tech demo for their new video game developing software called LUMBERYARD. Lumberyard is Amazon's "unreal engine" and it's free to use. Until this game, no one ever used Lumberyard because Unreal and Unity were already great examples for developing video games for the market. Which would explain why the game has so much variety to it, to show that it's possible to make all these types of games in it.
I believe this will be used to market to other video game developers as an optional software alternative to Unreal and Unity. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon started making their own video game console too.

What's weird is the BR mode was what originally mentioned as what the game was about like 4 years ago...

I actually really like the game a lot. They've got a lot of potential. I also agree with your points entirely and imagine it would be best if they baked this in the oven for just a tad bit longer. I think New World is extremely promising especially since they made sure to push it back past it's release date. That's me being optimistic though.
Imagine being a game dev for one of if not the most grossing companies in america over 2010-2020 timeframe, and they wont give you any advertisement but want you to release early.
The fact that Amazon didn't bother to even market this game speaks for itself.
Surprised that this isn't a launch title for Stadia, given how both products are released officially unfinished with little fanfare
1. Slow the movement down by 35%
2. Reduce attack speed of melee by 50%,
Ranged by 60%
3. Semi auto damage up 120%(headshot 200%, automatic up 150% and melee damage up 200%
The game is way too spastic and everyone is too tanky to actually make plays it seems.
Maybe even restrict auto attacks to a specific range and increase ability range but thats drastic.
