You are a great couple . I love your travelogues . Mafra is one of my favourite places in Portugal - a couple of extra stories - The Basilica has SIX massive organs and I believe that there are some pieces of music that have been composed especially for the six. Each is the size of a large cathedral organ. ALSO in the library there are bats which eat the bookworms so the books do not deteriorate so much. FINALLY I think that Dom Manuel II ran away and stayed there during the republican revolution of 1910. When the republicans were getting near he escaped to Ericeira and was taken on board a British vessel and taken to England. And I find the hunting room a bit sinister also. You must do a visit to Queluz, Portugal's "mini-Versailles".
I went to school there, 5th and 6th grade. And my dad went in the army training there at the Tapada. I love that little town, but it's the coldest place I ever been to in Portugal. In the winter mornings, my fingers and toes would freeze and felt like they would break off. lol I love your videos. Thank you so much. Beijinhos.
WOW! 3:28 - Amazing! The palace is incredible! So many treasures!! (like Pena Palace, but I think I'll like this one even more!) Obrigada You Two xx I must admit, I envy everyone in Portugal over the past year... to see it with so few tourists. I spent a winter in Portugal and felt fortunate that I never saw too, too many tourists but there were still many. I think the best time to visit the 'sites' is in the winter, for sure! For this Canadian, the weather you are having is balmy for winter ;) Hey, those masks help keep your face warm!!
Yess it was beautiful, we were surprised as well! I guess every bad situation has a good part, and that’s the only good part in this one.. For sure this cold and wind is a piece of cake 😂 the masks helped a lot ❤️ thank you for watching!
Love the concept of your videos, showing off this amazing historic country in a simple walk through format and include those infectious incredible smiles from both of you. Very pleasant to watch, keep up the good work.
Great video!! Of all convents we visisted, including Alcobaça, Tomar and Batallha this is the one that we liked most. The library is unique... and the ill friars' cells where they assisted mass very touching....
Yes, really impressive! Pitty that you didn't show us the interior of the basilica, though, especially its six magnificent pipe organs -- quite unique in the world! Also, I would like to point out that the wealth of the Portuguese Crown didn't come only from its territories in South America (Brazil), as you mentioned at 0:50, but equally so from the riches of the colonies in Africa; and the extremely lucrative trade with the Orient (spices, gems, gold, ivory, etc.) of which Portugal had the monopoly for the best part of the XVI and XVII centuries until the British and the Dutch managed to beat us out of it! On a different note, I do understand your discomfort at the sight of so many stag antlers hanging on the walls of that room (minute 8:00), but in those days deer hunting was seen as quite the norm amongst the aristocracy. Today it is still practiced in the British Isles, particularly in Scotland, where the culling of such magnificent animals is seen as a necessary "evil" by those knowledgeable about such matters (rural folks, mostly)! And, you know what they say: There's no such a thing as bad weather -- just wrong clothes... Happy New Year!
Wow, what a beautiful structure! To think this was built just for the enjoyment of one man! Thank you, was the palace open to the public on the day of your visit, and you were the only visitors?
@@mikeadams8989 But what a lack of knowledge, a person without a culture is sometimes happier! It will be? Portugal has nothing to do with Spain! Portugal was once the largest Naval Power in the World and a great Empire, why confuse Portugal with Spain? Just a person without culture, sorry, but that is the reality, The Portuguese Discoveries were more important at the time than man going to the Moon!

Oh my god, I have to go to Mafra. The library was closed ??? So sad about Alentejo. Do you know Évora and Monsaraz ? So beautiful places !!! Maybe Next time ? 😉 P.S. Happy New Year !
No the library was open but you can’t pass in order to preserve the books. Yes we want to go explore Alentejo soon, it has so many beautiful things to see 😍 Thank you so much! And Happy new year to you too!
@@maria_dumin It is one of the most beautiful libaries in the world. Hope to see it one day. I know the one from Coimbra. About Alentejo... May be in spring or in autumn. The winter is too cold and the summer is too warm in this area. Have a nice day. P.S. Hope to see more videos about Portugal. Thank you for your great job. 😉
Guys, your videos are amazing as Portugal))) I'm just wondering how do you travel all over the country if now there a ban on travel between municipalities? My husband and I want to go to Algarve from Lisbon, but not sure if it is possible because of this restrictions(
You need to take the mask off when there are no other people anywhere near you. You’ll hate these videos in the future when you realize you didn’t need to wear the mask.

Passed by it and took pictures of the exterior, never went in! Thanks for the video.
One day you should, it’s worthy ☺️ Thank you for watching!

Canadian part of me: ....f......freezing........? (since there is no snow or any ice on the floor)
Built by D. JOAO V not D.JOAO IV 1717 to 1755 .
I was there in army in 1975. Great memories
Just saying cheers .
Yeah I got it wrong when I said it but we corrected it in the subtitles ☺️
