I've just bought the combo version of the special 6 ultra. Straight out of the box nice clean channel, smooth overdrive and none of the brittle / harsh sounds in this video. It's really worth a try (and only 250 euro's).

@XMetalChefX a LOT people like the small special 6 /ultra for modding. Very easy to swap tubes and what not. I agree that this is not the same amps as when Fryette had the company in his control.

I think it has been echoed by a few other posters, but I just want to get the word out to people who are not familiar with the difference between the VHT amps of before 2008 and the ones after. The VHT has nothing to do with the sound and style of the VHT in the past. Due to corporate underhandedness, the parent company of this new VHT, Axl Guitars obtained the brand name of VHT in a lawsuit. By all accounts the original owner of VHT, Steve Fryette did not re-register the trademarked name of VHT, and Axl swooped in and bought the name (which had been the name of Steve Fryette's company since 1989), and sued the Fryette owned company for using that name. Friggin crazy huh? Everyone should spread the word and do everything they can to make sure these Chinese corporate pirates do not make one more dollar off of the stolen name of VHT.
I used to have a VHT PITBULL 50 head from around 1996. I was so disappointed I have to sell it. When I saw the name on a new amp I was a little heatbroken because such a great amp in the past not to be confused with these cheap amps. I think they are probably okay for the price, some, but can't honestly buy one because I know it's not really a VHT. But the lastest Fryette Pitbull amps have really gone up in price. I bought my VHT just over $1000, now they're more like $3000 for a Fryette Pitbull.
I bought in my G&L Z3 and gave the amp a whirl at a local music shop. Decent for the price. You could do worse for more money. I found myself in the clean channel more than the "ultra" channel. I found the overdrive to be on the harsh side but clearly brighter than any modelling amp. Being able to adjust to wattage is a bonus.
Afterwards I played through a Fender Vibro Champ XD and was far more impressed with the versatility. Less money for the Fender. Both are made in China.
The Special 6 is a good small amp, and yes better tubes improve the sound. The local VHT dealer has sold several of these amps and has gotten very favorable comments about 'em. Seems that some buyers are replacing their half stacks with these for house and some stage use.
Forgive me, I was frustrated as I wanted to take a new USA made VHT amp for a test drive and could not find a dealer that had one in stock.
That texture switch is nice sounding.
Yikes! Tune that guitar! 😳 Amazing amp, though. (I guess they gave him a guitar that was in tune when he started playing again.) Right on.

Im buying this. I think with some humbuckers the distortion will smooth out a little bit...

The overdrive sounded too brittle for my taste and personally I don't think that it's so necessary to offer the option of reduction of the wattage to 0.5W when it's already 6W at full force...But an option to go up to 15W too could have been tempting. I'm frankly disturbed by the no-tweaking policy that almost all amplifier manufacturers producing a low-wattage amp is following this year though. I mean, how much could it add to the bill to just to put up a standard bass-mid-treble setup?

So can anyone tell me why my special 6 ultra sounds NOTHING like this? The gain on here sounds nice and smooth, mine sounds terrible. Those can't be the same tubes that come with them normally. I'd rather pay the extra $50 from the get go and get a better tubes stock than get one that sounds like shite thinking it will sound like these demos. VERY frustrating

So what the hell happened here... VHT... Fryette... I don't get it. Pick a brand and go with it. V-DRIVE LOOKS REALLY COOL!! lots of options!

I own a combo vht 1x12 a very cool amp, but this guy it seems is trying to scare the people xddddddd, didnt like any sound xd
does anybody notice that in the begining of the video that this guy hits almost the same chords as the intro to this video...i just thought that was intresting

I have noticed that many, many NAMM products are not shown in their best light because of the person demo-ing. Out of tune guitars, poor EQ settings, lack of talent, they all take away from what could be a sensational peice of gear. This guy sounds pretty good though.

This is a prime example of the Corporate Degradation of our World's, Honesty, and Quality being associated with a NAME! I blame everyone involved. How MUCH MONEY does one NEED, really, to be comfortable? I mean, WHO is going to think a person is seriously talking about a quality AMP when plugging in an AXL?(wtf?) guitar you buy a 4 year old until you learn 4year old is gonna be good. What, is this guy building Ceriatone part kits with VHT tags on it?

Your poor quality video performances cost the VHT dealer two sales.
First off, I want to try the overdrive pedal. Your demo seems to show how sturdy it is , not how it sounds. Scratch one sale.
I wanted to get a lead 20 or lead 40. The dealer wanted me to buy the amp with store credit towards another VHT amp if I didnt like it. No good videos or reviews of these amps.
I am not willing to order one of those amps without trying it first. Scratch the second sale.
I'm tempted to buy the head and gut it. I could replace all the tubes, do a few mods, and put an EQ in the loop. I have a 2x12 cab that isn't being used with a couple of Celestion V30's in it that this could pair up with just for messing around. I like the attenuator, effects loop, and the line out for the price.
It sounds like shit in this video, but it might be a cool toy or project amp once someone opens it up and 'fixes' it. I think I even have some JJs laying around.
vht- hmm way too low price.. is this guy gona find his tires popped in the parking lot.. hey don't freak out-- he did not claim to have affordable REVERB.

WTF is this demo! This guys go through all the trouble of making new amps and pedal and when it's time to demo it, they show it like this.
Overdrive sounds like what all you players play with. Every time I stroll into a music store all I hear is total overdrive--actually TOTAL DISTORTION---meaningless myriads of shred notes--you all end up sounding THE SAME ! CREATIVITY BECOMES INDIVIDUALITY ! Learn to really PLAY GUITAR--or any instrument for that matter !

the stock tubes in these things are awful- after a tube change they sound 10 times better.
And there are allot, of very favorable reviews about the VHT special 6 about the web.

He's not a great player- and neither am I or I would upload a demo because this amp is great. I actually like the sound of the stock tubes, but picked up an adapter & have been using an el84 more lately. I highly recommend trying one for yourself.
