@@AS-jo8qh It was given in the news because to make u understand the brutality of the case...You might ask how this was found in the murder....a sanitary napkin was found on the mouth of the victim..in that way
This case bothered me more than any of the others you’ve covered so far. It’s sad that I’m used to seeing cases where the police value people from middle to upper class more than poor people, but the thing that got me about this is that they had all the evidence to convict both men yet the corruption within the system was so prevalent that one of them almost got off free. I’m so happy Pinky’s family had a copy of the confession. Without it, they wouldn’t have gotten justice.
not to forget that Koli finally changed his statement after realizing that his master is gonna be free and he's gonna hang lol... That was the main turning point that lead to pander's arrest...
This case reminds me of the case of Wirjo, a farmer who goes on a killing spree for seemingly no reason (many have speculated that it's for spiritual power or something like that because Wirjo did fast for around 40 days before the killing), and killed 20 people and injured 12 more
I thought Wirjo was in some kind of psychotic episode, he always has anger issue and his neighbors were always avoiding him because of his sudden outburst. definitely supernatural background believed by the locals to be one of the cause of his anger outburst which later on cause the killing spree. my sister's husband is banyuwangian and he said that there are people who still believe that Wirjo's 'spirit' might come back from the death to possess someone to continue the killing spree.
I would like to make a suggestion about narrating such cases that involve sexual assault: oftentimes, when people choose to use the word "sex" to describe sexual acts that were not consensual, it downplays the severity of the crime and removes the victims' right to consent because it carries the implication of consent when the actual act was sexual assault, necrophilia, etc. Wording and use of language plays a big part in the treatment of victims and survivors of non-consensual acts as it can invalidate their trauma/emotions as well as make it seem like it was their fault (i.e., how language in sexual assault causes can mitigate perpetrator responsibility and increase victim irresponsibility). The paper "The Linguistics of Sexual Assault: How the Dissonance of Individuals’ Perpetrator Expectations and The Ordering of Information Effects Perceptions of Sexual Assault" by Megan Boegli delves into this deeper and can explain far better than I can.
@@henggaraed I was more commenting on the use of the phrase "sex with their bodies" and the connotations that come with the word "sex" and how it can downplay the severity of the crime but given that minors cannot consent because they are not legally able to, I would say no. I'm not an expert on this though, but I believe that since children are not legally able to consent (I have no clue what the age of consent is in India btw), anything that is done to them is illegal since they cannot give their consent in the first place. (For example, if in the US and in a state where the age of consent is 18*, a 20 yr. old had sexual relations with a 17 yr. old - while it may be socially acceptable if they were in a relationship and the 17 yr. old "consented"** to it, they are not at the age of consent and technically cannot give their consent even though they are almost of age.) *age of consent varies from 16 - 18 in the US and depends on state law so if in a state where the age of consent is 16 or 17, then this hypothetical situation would be legal **in quotes because given the age of consent in example, they cannot legally consent even if they say they do
@@henggaraed Also looking at this more from the language side of things and how certain wording and phrases have connotations that can negatively impact victims/survivors (i.e., should use "r*pe" instead of "sex" when it wasn't consensual or when discussing slavery as another example that is similar, using "enslaved person" instead of "slave.") More commenting on how language has an impact on the discussed topic and how using some words can (unintentionally) take away from the person who suffered, was a victim, etc.

Not sure what the Indian police department and CBI are like now, but nothing about the police handling and that of the CBI made sense.
Being an INDIAN i never really heard about this case since its been more than a decade but i feel so sad that JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE POOR and DALITS they were ignored....imagine how many families would have been saved if the police (of that time) listened to them and would have properly executed their duty :(

This case was horrifying.. I was very young but I still remember news of this case being run 24*7.. one of the 3 cases that shook India (apart from Arushi Talwar and 2012 Delhi case). P.s I would also like to talk about a not so prominent case of Ruchika Girhotra from Chandigarh… it’s an absolute horror on exploitation of power by the higher ups. When I read of the case I was shocked and wondered if I was reading a Kdrama crime thriller plot with no final justice.

I am from India, and i didn't knew about this case. Thank you Megan! My heart goes out to all the victims of this case. How rigged is our justices are, they were ignored because they were poor?
5:42 =I think I get why these crimes happened... Yeah their attitude shows that this case wouldn't be given the right justice until it spat them on the face on how much body count could have been reduced if they took this seriously...
It's true. Pandher knew he had enough wealth and connections to be able to bribe the authorities and no one would show interest in the case of Dalits, the lowermost. Moreover, he made Koli the scapegoat because he too was poor and wouldn't have been able to get the investigation team on his side while both of them have been equally involved in the horrendous crime.

I remember this case and it's a reminder that birth control is a good idea. Unwanted children are vulnerable because no one cares about them. People who preach against birth control for religious reasons and cultures that value sons above daughters and will keep having children until a son is born contribute to the problem. A society that can't protect the most vulnerable is a failed society.
All I could say was oh my goodness. Thank you Megan for talking about this case. Absolutely disgusting. The police's extreme negligence is unfathomable and I'm so sad that the families weren't believed because of their class. That is devastating.
Another horrifying case indeed. Could you do Junko Furuta's case? There is still nothing that compares to the absolute monstrosity of what happened, perhaps excluding a well known war crime.
I have never understood any class system in the world, its such an unnecessary evil. I don't understand how a father can pimp out his own daughter. This is beyond unimaginable, beyond justification.
We have are own HOUSE OF HORRORS right here in the USA 🇺🇸 in the state of Oklahoma. The man was a SA resident who just got out of prison and returned home to say he wouldn’t ever do this again. But things turned out even worse when they found his house was full of sexual abuse/predators, violence, etc. He ended up killing 6 people including his wife and himself. The police and family members came to the scene 🎬 to see what has happened. There were 2 young kids that came over for a slumber party 🎉 who were killed as well. They found them out side on the lawn, dead 💀. Many items found inside the house were of sexual orientation/ drugs and candy filled with drugs for the kids to eat so that they would cooperate and be tied up 🆙. We don’t know how many kids could be involved, still. They are still looking 👀 around the grounds for more kids that might be still there. The Oklahoma police department doesn’t seem to make any comments about this which makes the family members very upset. Who knows what else may be missing/happening. These kids were only 12,13, and up to 18 years old. 3 of the kids were his own step-children, 2 girls and 1 boy and the other two were 2 young girls 👧 who came over for the sleepover/ party . I think he wanted to SA them too. ❤ your videos are please 🙏 keep up the amazing 😻 xx job you do because we need more people like you to bring us such wonderful content of crime stories like 👍 you do. There's a story you should look into, in India parents are have been convicted and sentenced for the death of their daughter Shruti Talwar. What was weird about the case is that she was found dead in her locked room. There's a movie called Talvar, watching it pisses you off because of how stupid the police are and everything that surrounded the murder
Recently I requested you for this case .But you already filmed it. Thank you Megan. And there is very sad that recently the criminal s are released and all the charges are dropped. The judiciary again failed us and the victims family. They are terrified also because the criminals are out freely roaming 😢😢
Good cover of a murder story as always. Was waiting for the new vid! But I think the UA-cam video guideline is gonna be bothersome, due to some use of some sensitive words in this video.
Only in India would you find the neighbours of a serial killer getting in on whatever action they could get from what’s left of the victims when their initial perpetrator was done with them. One guy abducts, another does the rape, then another trafficks them, and when it’s all done, yet another harvests the victims organs, while another discards their remains. Man, they really won’t let a penny slide. Great work as usual, Meghan!!
I've been binging some episodes since last night (I just discovered your channel!) and one thing I realized is that, other than the suspects of course, most of these wouldn't have that many victims if only the authorities took the initial reports seriously and that they didn't have biases in social statuses of the people reporting to them. same goes with the justice system of countries
I love ur interpretation Megan one day when am old i will start a channel and document about crimes around Africa. And i will always give u credit 4 inspiring me.
I find it difficult to watch crime channels or news, especially when it involves crimes against children. The thought of such incidents still gives me shivers.
Oh. I actually thought I hadn't heard about this case as I started listening because the other creator I saw cover this straight up refused to acknowledge that the caste system is alive and unfortunately doing quite well. I've heard many Indian people speak out against it and expose the horrific treatment of the Dailt people. People are still reporting that the "caste system isn't that relevant now" but I've seen Indian activists speaking out against it and showing evidence that it is in fact very much still going on. The most recent horror I read about was how thousands of Dalit people were sold to China as slave labor after promising them good work only for them to realize that not only were they not even paid enough to eat every day but that they could no longer go home at all. Which means the breadwinners of thousands of families lost the only resource available to them. It's actually pretty horrifying and is inherently tied to fast fashion and the need for cheap/free labor to produce so quickly. I didn't even mean to type this much on the matter but I'm so so happy to see someone not pushing caste propaganda by downplaying the massive social effects and ills of the caste system. There are so many crimes tied to the structure of a caste and people definitely need to talk about the cultural and social impact more often. Because it's genuinely harrowing and even though US citizens can't really fix anything it's important to acknowledge so we conduct ourselves properly when discussing these sort of topics. Treating them with the gravity they deserve. Because the Dalit are PEOPLE and so many of them die just because of their caste. This guy is an honest to God serial killer and likely specifically targeted Dalit children because he knew they would drag ass to even take the population seriously. Anyway I'm once again really grateful that this channel really seems to focus on the cases themselves and the social implications of the crimes covered. This truly horrifying case doesn't feel like it was relegated to "entertainment". And it's also really important to not just cover cases where the victims are affluent or well educated or popular or whatever. Because even the cops didn't care about these children at first. People should know how these sorts of things happen. And maybe more people will speak out against the extremely poor conditions the Dalit people are forced to live under.

The paper "The Linguistics of Sexual Assault: How the Dissonance of Individuals’ Perpetrator Expectations and The Ordering of
Information Effects Perceptions of Sexual Assault" by Megan Boegli delves into this deeper and can explain far better than I can.
Is the concept of consent applicable to children?
@@henggaraed I was more commenting on the use of the phrase "sex with their bodies" and the connotations that come with the word "sex" and how it can downplay the severity of the crime but given that minors cannot consent because they are not legally able to, I would say no. I'm not an expert on this though, but I believe that since children are not legally able to consent (I have no clue what the age of consent is in India btw), anything that is done to them is illegal since they cannot give their consent in the first place. (For example, if in the US and in a state where the age of consent is 18*, a 20 yr. old had sexual relations with a 17 yr. old - while it may be socially acceptable if they were in a relationship and the 17 yr. old "consented"** to it, they are not at the age of consent and technically cannot give their consent even though they are almost of age.)
*age of consent varies from 16 - 18 in the US and depends on state law so if in a state where the age of consent is 16 or 17, then this hypothetical situation would be legal
**in quotes because given the age of consent in example, they cannot legally consent even if they say they do
@@henggaraed Also looking at this more from the language side of things and how certain wording and phrases have connotations that can negatively impact victims/survivors (i.e., should use "r*pe" instead of "sex" when it wasn't consensual or when discussing slavery as another example that is similar, using "enslaved person" instead of "slave.") More commenting on how language has an impact on the discussed topic and how using some words can (unintentionally) take away from the person who suffered, was a victim, etc.
@@merlinemrys9082 Okay I think I got you, you are speaking about political correctness and impact of using the alternative, I was focused on technical application of the term?

As someone who lived in india (my father was a doctor, he's since retired) I remember this case and it was dishearting to see how much this case was botched from the start and how it was handled even when the CBI were involved. P.s I would also like to talk about a not so prominent case of Ruchika Girhotra from Chandigarh… it’s an absolute horror on exploitation of power by the higher ups. When I read of the case I was shocked and wondered if I was reading a Kdrama crime thriller plot with no final justice.

It's true. Pandher knew he had enough wealth and connections to be able to bribe the authorities and no one would show interest in the case of Dalits, the lowermost. How did this not make international headlines? Thank you for spotlighting this case, its complications, and its legacy.
Tru but the problem is even deeper than wut I reckon. The society is broken for sure
here we go with victim blaming, the only unwanted children are the perpetrators of the story!

Excellent writing, narration, and video every time 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Kudos you guys!!
