Well, MH 1 is the og, but I think in terms of modern gaming and content, Frontier is superior, but that's just a thought. I'm impartial. I think both are great
Well that depends on who you ask MH1 is the original that started the whole series off but yeah going back to it is pretty clunky given the time it was made. MH Frontier stays with that classic MH formula except cranks everything to 11 and goes absolutely wild with its monster designs, movesets and weapons. Tonfas were easy my favorite weapon. Magnet Spike... we don't talk about Magnet spike.
"Better" is a really loaded term. I would say MH1 is more important in MH history than Frontier for obvious reasons, being the first game, but also because it was available globally so it had more reach, which makes it better as a historical example to point people towards when talking about the series and how it has grown. MH1 will remain relevant in that way even if the series continued for 100 more games, but Frontier is already becoming dated and replaced by newer games that are embracing much of what made it a different experience from the mainline series. That said, Frontier would definitely be my choice for which game to play if both were put in front of me, because it has far more content and superior game mechanics. I've also played through everything in MH1 back in the day, whereas I've never touched MH Frontier because of the hurdles involved in approaching it. I put all my hoop-jumping energy into playing Portable 3rd (which I bought the physical copy of despite using... other means... to play it in english)

Not sure if you know this, but Frontier has been revived by the fanbase! It's an utter nightmare to actually get it working, but I was even able to play it in English. Also, I think the fact that we got Espinas in Rise is a sign that Capcom hasn't forgotten about Frontier and it might mean that they're going to implement some of the better and more grounded ideas from Frontier into the main series!
I started playing it too recently and while the difficulty starts spiking around HR 4 (I am at HR 5 and earlier today I brute forced my way through the Guanzorumu repel quest with my Rasta without carting... haven't done the rest of the HR 5 key quests though) it is still very good! I do wish that the dialogue was in English but aside from that it runs extremely well
Great vid, just a clarification based on our convo: Emulators for these kinds of games exist, but this game is not playable on them atm. The phone that runs the game encrypts the data, so it can be dumped properly at the moment. Unfortunately that means it's not playable to a wider audience, but hopefully in the future this will be possible. At the moment I have the only known device with the game, but I would imagine there are more out there. Thanks for using the footage! Again, great vid!
That’s what I was looking for! It’s also the one I always wish I could go back and play because of how convenient it was. I love it, only downside was the broken gacha, and how you needed the best weapons to keep up with the monsters.
just a heads up to people wanting to play older games, contrary to what I see everyone say you can buy the physical games for cheap if you look for them. just last week I bought freedom 2 and freedom unite for $5 (combined) after a few days spent checking various second hand retailers (and yes they both were in excellent condition). don't be disheartened by exorbitant resale prices online, any older title that was relatively popular enough to have a decent number of copies still in circulation will be able to be found for a good price if you take the time to look.
the last physical mh game I need is the original stories, which is a bit harder to find at a good price because it sold less than the other titles, meaning there's a lot less copies in circulation and whenever I do find a copy it's around $70. this is the only title from the PSP and 3ds games that I've not seen go for cheap, all the others I've managed to get for $20 or less (and I continue to find them selling at those prices)
It's great to hear that there still are that many copies in circulation. Here in Portugal it's extremely hard to find any sort of MH products since it never really took off and people don't really know about it

One of capcoms forgotten mh game (kind of) is monster hunter explore. Basically its an rpg monster hunter in a phone which you control with a joystick on the screen and swipe on the screen to dodge. Not only that but hes talking about how these games should be ported to the switch ignoring that MG Generations was ported to the switch at launch as MH Generations Ultimate
I would argue that Freedom Unite is not as expensive. I think it is around $40 canadian for a physical copy at the time of writing. For a psp game is not bad, considering that some games on that console have gotten pretty pricey this days, and Freedom Unite has so much content that it is worth it. Or the digital version on Ps vita, despite looking a bit choppy is also a good alternative. Great video.
@@vladventura1928I got a second-hand copy for like 3 euros. It actually surprised me how cheap this game is, considering it's large roster of monsters and the fact that many view it as one of the best titles in the PSP library.
In MH1 95% of people used their usb keyboards and were very social back when no one knew was usb was. Since MH1 I've played every MH and havent said a word to anyone... Capcom?
Using citra to play through GenU (Japanese release on 3DS before switch, has all the content as the switch port, massive modding community that translates it to English, and unlocks a lot of special event quest and a lot of graphical overhaul mods that make it look better than the switch port) and 4U and using CemU to play 3U
2:11 From what I know this case is similar to “Super Mario RPG”. In this case it’s true that the one owning the rights of the franchise is obviously CAPCOM, but because the game was make in collaboration with Tencent Games CAPCOM doesn’t own all the rights of MHO. Which in short means that almost (if not all) of the content in MHO will never be in other MH (by this I mean like CAPCOM can’t extract a monster or armor set directly from MHO and put it in a new game or dlc, but they could still introduce something equivalent or inspired from this collaboration).
I would really like to see tri remastered. Underwater controls are fine if you are using a ps or Xbox controller and they can only get better with a remaster
came here from the Hey Jay! video reacting to yours! I wanted to see it unedited since this was always an interesting topic for me! keep up the good work
Correction about the Monster Hunter i part, while the SuperRAD did make a good video on it he had to get the Japanese flip phone to in order to play it. His community did help by sharing info about the game and donating for him to pay for the phone but as of now the only way to play this game is to own that phone it is impossible to emulate it. He had just been able to record footage that he can share for the video.
Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii was a wild trip of a childhood, played Monster Hunter Portable Third through emulation 6-8 years ago and then JUST tried it again couple months back and the servers are miraculously just as populated as they were way back when
4:55 actually i don't think the Accel Axe was in that game, I'm pretty sure the Accel Axe was a Monster Hunter Explore (the mobile game) exclusive And yeah, Frontier is great, I'm not far in it but its super fun. Man i wish spirits had come to the west, i super wanted to try that game...... actually thats true for ALL of these, even the ones i hadn't heard of like reclamation. I'm a simp for anything monster hunter.
I did sink in around 100h into MHO and I remember playing mezaporta reclamation for a bit. Both were fun games. I wish there was a way to play them today
Correction: The axcel axe was from the mobile game monster hunter explore. You probably confused it for the magnet spike weapon, which is completely different.
The 3ds monster hunter game are actually not that costly they are mostly less then $20, except for MH stories which have priced pass over $50 mostly around $60.
I logged over way to many hours on the original monster hunter on ps2. The controls were bad compared to today's monster hunter games. But I did get use to them and still enjoyed the game. Good memories buying that game on launch day😊
I'd love it if Capcom would simply upload all of their older titles to Steam as they were first released, with all of their content, and just let us host private servers on our own. I'd love to go back and experience Dos for the first time with friends
MHO was a lot of fun, I played about 800-1k hours of it right before MHW release on PC It is pretty much MHFU but with MH4 influence. At that time it was the most high fidelity graphic monster hunter game we have, looks gorgeous yet it play exactly like traditional MH game with instance map instead of open interconnected one like MHW/Rise. The problem is that it is in Chinese so we have to wait for fan translation every update tho once you get used to it you can play it without it. There is some P2W element but the game difficulty isn't much different from traditional MH so it was mostly whalebait and ofc gacha cosmetic that looks cool but doesn't offer much else. You can still look great as F2P anyway with camo and you can get some in game currency from grinding to buy weapon camo and limited time armor. Oh and I love the Hunter character creation, IMHO my chara looks hella pretty even more so than MHW, such a shame I can't see her anymore. Oh and I play completely F2P and have a blast playing alone and with the discord community or even with random. Really wish there is an offline version of the game cuz honestly, it was a solid MH experience comparable to the general mainline title unlike MH Frontier who is on a completely different world
With Espinas (as a Frontier’s « exclusive » and also a pseudo flagship) in Sunbreak, who knows. Maybe we’ll get Tonfas or a similar weapon in future titles (because we really need a fast blunt weapon, like dual hammers!) Monster Hunter Online had some of the greatest exclusive Monsters too, let’s hope for the best for the next main title!
AWWWW MH Online still hurts my soul they had a full English port of it in like 2018 and i was having such a blast that was so close to the perfect monster hunter game
Ah yes the accel axe a weapon introduced in monster hunter explore being used in frontier, could've sworn explore was released a year after frontiers shut down
I hope we see some form of remaster for the older games, either for the switch or all platforms, or even see some new form of frontier, with all the speculation of some new monster hunter game probably coming around march of next year, it would be great to give the fans something fresh while working on the next major game
dude i came from a digimon world stream and i decided to close it and watch your video i thought i didn't close the stream cause of the city music in you video XD
Heads up for everyone: I think it was Capcom that announced last year (if my memory serves me right, it was around September - October) that they'll make another Monster Hunter game for mobile. Apparently, it's going to be faithful to the main games' gameplay. 🧐 Then again, I could be wrong. I'm not good at remembering things. 😅
they shouldnt change anything. if there gonna change stuff id like a strait up port of the original game to come out as well as a remake or remaster. and removing bugnets and pickaxes and whetstones as items i not quality of life it greatly effects the games flow and play and inventory managment. i most definatly do not want camps to be changed into 5th gen camps. either quality of life could be item sets and revamping the ui and menus. tho i prefer the old ui the only ui i like better from 5th gen is the armor crafting screen. the weapon crafting is much worse in my opinon in rise its okay cause they improoved it but i still prefer the old menu style for weapon upgrade and crafting.
MH Online, my beloved. I gave it a try back in 2017 (VPN w/ the English patch), but didn't get into full swing until about a year before it's shutdown announcement. Sure, it had it's janky moments and was a little rough around the edges, but I enjoyed every bit of it.
I still play mh4u a lot and mhxx on 3ds even more, tho the online shutting down really really sucks... tho I mostly play with my irl best friend in person so it wont stop us from playing
Isn't generations already on the switch? Also is generation like a combination of all the monster hunter games (exception being stories) put together but with a few upgrades? Genuinely asking as i haven't played it yet.
Freedom Unite on mobile was sadly taken down from the AppStore and if you didn’t have it downloaded before the shutdown then it can’t be redownloaded as far as I know. Very sad loss

It looked cool like the concept and gane play looked difrent and interesting would have loved to play it at some point
“Buying physical copies of older games will cost you”
…
I bought a double bundle deal of 3U and 4U for the 3DS on Amazon for $50CA… seriously😆
I found the game myself, but good gravy I hate playing it on the PSP.
Yeah can confirm, I bought one a few weeks ago for like 20 USD
@@vladventura1928I got a second-hand copy for like 3 euros. It actually surprised me how cheap this game is, considering it's large roster of monsters and the fact that many view it as one of the best titles in the PSP library.
In MH1 95% of people used their usb keyboards and were very social back when no one knew was usb was. Since MH1 I've played every MH and havent said a word to anyone... Capcom?
Heads up, the iOS ver of freedom unite was never updated for the most recent ver of iOS, so that no longer works.
2:33
Wutttt
3:15
WAAAAAT
How tf you know about this but not about mh spirit
Also MHFU for IOS?
I always assumed Monster Hunter would have me hunting politicians and priests...
I would really like to see tri remastered. Underwater controls are fine if you are using a ps or Xbox controller and they can only get better with a remaster
I always think of that DarkSouls like by capcom (which i always forget its name)
came here from the Hey Jay! video reacting to yours!
MONSTER HUNTER ONLINE HAD 800H in this GAME CAN RECOMMEND SO GOOD
ARBITER ESTRELLIEN MY BABY OR PURPLE SLICEMAGIL:D!
4:16 I like how you direct the word "Assets" on this section .. it's too straightforward but I like that one 😆😂
Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii was a wild trip of a childhood, played Monster Hunter Portable Third through emulation 6-8 years ago and then JUST tried it again couple months back and the servers are miraculously just as populated as they were way back when
4:17 believe me i want tome of those game experience and armor's in a future monsters Hunter 😏😂
4:55 actually i don't think the Accel Axe was in that game, I'm pretty sure the Accel Axe was a Monster Hunter Explore (the mobile game) exclusive
And yeah, Frontier is great, I'm not far in it but its super fun.
Man i wish spirits had come to the west, i super wanted to try that game...... actually thats true for ALL of these, even the ones i hadn't heard of like reclamation. I'm a simp for anything monster hunter.
Well, atleast in Germany and Poland you get all the physical 3ds titles no problem for a pretty decent price.
As cool as remasters would be, I’d honestly be happy even if they just ported them over to the switch with no changes!
Monster hunter frontier was one of the best things on Wii U. Probably almost as good as 3 ultimate.
I did sink in around 100h into MHO and I remember playing mezaporta reclamation for a bit. Both were fun games. I wish there was a way to play them today
Is it just me or Monster Hunter Riders was not mention in this video?
Also, damn it Capcom, where is my Monster Hunter Stories 2 expansion dlc?
Capcom also seems to forget about Sengoku Basara series and how it just dies silently . . . 😢
Yes I love that game I wish we get a ps4 and ps5 and Xbox series version of that game 😊
Correction: The axcel axe was from the mobile game monster hunter explore. You probably confused it for the magnet spike weapon, which is completely different.
4:17
Editing 100
the physical mh games aren't realy that expensive on ebay from what i have recently looked up
The 3ds monster hunter game are actually not that costly they are mostly less then $20, except for MH stories which have priced pass over $50 mostly around $60.
MHO was a lot of fun, I played about 800-1k hours of it right before MHW release on PC
It is pretty much MHFU but with MH4 influence.
Really wish there is an offline version of the game cuz honestly, it was a solid MH experience comparable to the general mainline title unlike MH Frontier who is on a completely different world
Freedom Unite was me and my brothers first entry to the series. Such a fun time.
Subbed... because of the very funny intro and the awesome accent!
I saw "the game abandoned by Capcom" and immediately thought this video was going to be about dragon's dogma
7:55 "Counters and ultimate attacks" Yep, that's the reason right there why I dislike X and Rise.
at 5:36 ...Doesn't that look like the sword on the back of the hunter in the new Monster Hunter: Wilds trailer?
With Espinas (as a Frontier’s « exclusive » and also a pseudo flagship) in Sunbreak, who knows. Maybe we’ll get Tonfas or a similar weapon in future titles (because we really need a fast blunt weapon, like dual hammers!)
Monster Hunter Online had some of the greatest exclusive Monsters too, let’s hope for the best for the next main title!
Monster hunter footage with Digimon World OST. You sir are a brother from another mother.
The game was so good! I want that big fat beaver in a main title
Never mentions MH Diary Poka Airou Village or MHP3rd. Y?
Best browser game, but i can't read japanese and was play it until it closed 😭
You've forgot about Monster Hunter Explore which was the game with Accel Axe. Frontier only had Tonfas and Magnet Spike there :D
The real game abandoned by capcom is the entirety of the MegaMan franchise 😢
MH Frontier G was also ported to ps vita.
And now people revived this game, there's custom server for it now.
dude i came from a digimon world stream and i decided to close it and watch your video i thought i didn't close the stream cause of the city music in you video XD
A port of 4u would be great! I never played it due to not being a fan of handhelds at the time. I played 3u then mhw, then gu, and mhrs of course.
Same, if they managed to port Generations Ultimate on the Switch then they could manage to port in 4U.
MHO looked so good, it's such a shame it never got ported outside of china.
they shouldnt change anything. if there gonna change stuff id like a strait up port of the original game to come out as well as a remake or remaster. and removing bugnets and pickaxes and whetstones as items i not quality of life it greatly effects the games flow and play and inventory managment. i most definatly do not want camps to be changed into 5th gen camps. either quality of life could be item sets and revamping the ui and menus. tho i prefer the old ui the only ui i like better from 5th gen is the armor crafting screen. the weapon crafting is much worse in my opinon in rise its okay cause they improoved it but i still prefer the old menu style for weapon upgrade and crafting.
is no one relize "file city" digimon world 1?
i need capcom to make Plesioth as rideable monstie on next MHS if they ever make it,that dam baby plesioth too damn precious
9:00 I just bought a 3DS copy of 3 Ultimate for $20 two days ago. It really isn't a huge problem, at least not yet.
It's sad the MHFU Steam port from the ransomware incident didn't actually materialize.
Isn't generations already on the switch? Also is generation like a combination of all the monster hunter games (exception being stories) put together but with a few upgrades? Genuinely asking as i haven't played it yet.
@2:36 I thought you were doing an ad for "monster hunter ... to reclamation" for like a good minute there
The accel Axe is from explore not frontier.
10:35 that's why there's MH rise and MH world
It's not the same thing
3:55 Probably Tencent, you can see their logo on the right corner
MHO is basically China version monster hunter
I remember it so much when i heard it from my Chinese friend in HK
Accel Axe is Explore exclusive, which brings me much sadness because if it was really in Frontier I could actually play it (it looks SO FUN!)
Freedom Unite on mobile was sadly taken down from the AppStore and if you didn’t have it downloaded before the shutdown then it can’t be redownloaded as far as I know. Very sad loss
Before I watch this is it Frontier.
pretty funny that the first game has digimon world 1 background music xd
MH 1 (PS2) is very clunky with it's right stick attack controls if you can get past that or play it in a way that would let you change that you might enjoy it
you forgot about Monster Hunter Explore a game for Mobile, it shut down, in 2020
Aaaah yeah
I can confirm it's way harder to get MH Generations even for emulation
I've been looking for days and every page has either the game removed, links broken or bad servers that end with the download restarting or cancelled by itself
10:03 Seems like they are doing it now starting with the port of Monster Hunter Stories 1 to pc and modern consoles!
Happy to say i've been hunting since the first game on PS2.
