I never used to watch rugby but football, until I saw this guy run like a raging bull throwing and knocking other players like children I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was hooked on watching rugby after that following Jonah. You are the KING of Rugby. Thank you
here for such short time but he made his mark and will always be talked about in years to come, wishing you and your family all the best for the future Jonah the man the Legend we remember you with fondness Phillips Whanau
JONAH LOMU - Too Big, Too Strong, Too Good. THERE IS NO NEXT JONAH LOMU.THERE IS ONLY ONE ! & NO OTHER PLAYER WILL EVEN COME NEAR AS GOOD AS HE WAS FULLSTOP!! AND YES HE WOULDVE CRUSHED ANY NFL PLAYER BACK IN HIS PRIME.
Jonah Lomu was one of the key moment which became Rugby Union intro professionalism. Power, skill, speed, talent, strength and conditions made by one man. His dedication was unique and his powerful tries during his legendary carrer. Long live Lomu!!
jonah lomu is one of the GREATEST athletes in any sport in history. This man is a rare breed and no one in rugby has even come Close to having any attributes alike other than alesana tuilagi who has speed and Power but even still doest quite reach lomus level. More than Power LOMU had pace. He was one of the fastest wingers in the World but was something like 118kg or something like that but i am unsure. Even the NFL offered him contracts and it would have been interesting to see him play amercan football but not to be the man bleeds black. I wouldnt be suprised if mankind fails to produce Another beast like jonah. He is the best player to ever grace a field hands down!!!!!!!!
With his gifts of size, power, speed and agility Jonah Lomu would likely have been successful in the NFL if he'd played gridiron all his life. The two games are so different in their offensive and defensive patterns that players develop responses to situations based on being in thousands of plays, so it becomes almost intuition. A great ball carrier in either game might go semi pro on ability, but it would take years to get up to the top level. Probably more years than they'd have available.
Sanders was just something completely different. You could barely get a hand on him. Honestly though, i've never seen more of a beast than Lomu though. His tackle breaking is among the top of all sports
Jonah Lomu - A man as tall as most second-rows, as heavy as most props and faster than most wingers. 120kg stone man who could run the 100 metres in 10.89 seconds.
@rockmyboat676 i never said they could, this man's my favourite player of all time. He had such a great impact on the game, he's an absolute beast, greatest winger of all time
I'd go as far as saying Lomu is my favourite player to have ever played the game... and I'm an Aussie! The 'greatest test ever' of 2000/1 was when I got into rugby - we just bounced off him all night. I'd never seen rugby before as I came from a league bastion, but @#%& me, that was a good game, even if we lost!
i have read a book about jonah lomu and many clubs of both codes offered him millions per year to come to their club but he stayed down in new zealand not earning as much... he got offers from nfl teams at about 3-5 million a year or something like that i can't remember but he stayed down in new zealand..... loyalty.... there is your perfect rugby player
2:12 nope, Jonah Lomu had amazing skills, not only speed balance and strength, he had amazing ball skills , he could throw a rugby ball like a NFL quarter back from half way to the posts over the cross bar ( he could throw the rugby ball between the posts from halfway, he could do any type of pass there is , I saw him warming up with the counties team at half time doing passing drills omfg no look passes pin point accuracy , one hand passes one handed no look passes any direction and spinning, I was very surprised to see he had this skill level with passes I think in the games he didn't focus on that he focused on running over or around players or both he kept the passes simple
In light of this test match… The ABs were the better team, but the wallabies were such a great team as well. Captained by one of the best players in the world! John Eales.
I've been to America and American Football is obviously huge over there, but I've also been to Europe, NZ and live in Australia, and Rugby dominates American Football in all of those countries, your sport is virtually unheard of in Europe and NZ.
@MasterSenji jonah reached a level of fame that would never ever be attained by another rugby player yet he still remained grounded he was dealt a cruel hand with hs kidney disorder yet remains an inspiration to this day for everything he has been through & overcome a true legend of the game
Yeah he was pretty quick I remember on a episode of "This Is Your Life" he said himself that he once clocked a 10.8sec for 100m with a handheld stop watch but said officially his best time is 11sec. 11sec isn't extremely quick but when we're talking about a man that stands 6'5 at 118kg yeah that's pretty quick alright.
Always amazes me how its the smallest guy on the field who can bring down the Tank That's not taking anything away from Jonah That's giving due credit unto Gregan, at 4:50
Man if only he had the opportunity to play outside Joe Stanley! I remember the 96 NZ sevens team training in Tauranga! They finished with 10 full field sprints Jonah's speed over the first 20 meters was awesome he one 4 out of the 10 but keep in mind they had Brad Fleming known schoolboy sprint champ, Roger Randle, Joeli Vidiri, Christian Cullen these guys have all gone sub 11sec!
@pawakes Jonah said it himself on tv here in New Zealand on a show called 'This Is Your Life' he admitted running a 10.8 with a stopwatch but officially his time is 11sec flat and for a big man like him that's very quick.
@nurispunk juggernaut not jugganot. juggernaut is a term used to describe a literal or metaphorical force regarded as unstoppable. It is often applied to a large machine or collectively to a team or group of people working together, and often bears association with crushing or being physically destructive. jonah is a human juggernaut because he is a machine and as powerful as a group of people
@ BArcher83 yep I had a copy of that game but had to delete it to make room on my harddrive. It still stands as a record of the highest attendance at a single game something between 100,000-110,000. Massive game he was and still is a legend both on and off the field.
I LOVE lomu, and think he as an absolute animal, Barry Sander's however was put on this earth solely to play running back, dont compare the two, They were kings in there respective sports honestly who cares about what they would do playing somethign else
Lomu would have dominated in the NFL he's got the Skills,Size,Speed,Power,Knowledge of betting defenders and that rugby players are better tacklers than nfl players
haloti came from rugby, there are many his size, but lack of fitness means they dont cut it in (top notch) rugby. the main difference in athleticism, imo, is that nfl has regular breaks and subs, so the player can afford to specialize, whilst in rugby you have to be able to do a little of everything as well as your main job
@hanros98 Bro I wish and hope, but he's been playing for Marseille-Vitrolles a 3rd division French team and that was last year and he hasn't really been heard from since. I watched one of his games and they played him in centre and as much as I was hoping he just didn't have the impact he had when he use to play in the 90's.
Agree, George North is the closest thing so far. Lomu had a better fend, sidestep (& Maori sidestep), chip kick and lower center of gravity. George is still young and healthy...
@91gt306 actually I know more about nfl than you do about rugby, another reason Jonah would dominate because I see Nfl finally discovering Polynesian athletes, Jonah Lomu is Tongan and so is Haloti Ngata, they both beasts, every time Jonah runs with the ball, he won't have to hide behind any blockers like payton and sanders .
jonah was the man,jus a pitty about his health problems, u dont see rugby players with padding or helmets, etc etc, thats a real mans sport..RUGBY ALL THE WAY
@robertstokes52 Awesome player George North but not the next Lomu. Frank Halai was called the next Lomu a few years ago at school boy level because he was strong 6'5 90-95kg Tongan but he never put on enough weight but is now one of the best 7 players currently in the whole circuit
@ChelseaFC4life24 And btw. The reason there isnt any articles about walter peyton, barry sanders, etc in rugby is because here in the U.S rugby isnt really ackowledged. Most americans feel football players would dominate in rugby and although i dont believe that, you wont see articles on it.
@ChelseaFC4life24 Thats cool believe everything you read. While you're at it check out the article from another "professional sports writer" that said he would have run the 40 in 4.2-4.3sec lol. Jimmy graham, Demarcus ware, haloti ngata, julius peppers, mario williams, brian orakpo, jevon kearse, all are from 6'4-6'7 260-300lbs all big, strong, fast, explosive and freakishly athletic. Its an different sport with different athletes to deal with.
@hanros98 Nah his time of 10.8sec over the 100m was taken off a stopwatch when he was still at Wesley apparently. His official time was 11sec while playing Rugby so he only slowed down 2 split seconds and standing at 6'5 118kg it doesn't really matter especially back than.
@VagabondShoes He was 120kgs 6'5 and could officialy run the 100m in 11sec. 10.8sec unofficially but you have to remember this is before Rugby went professional and with it the players started to get stronger, bigger and more athletic all round. Rugby players nutrition is alot better these days too and there's no doubt Jonah would be good these days but probably wouldn't have as bigger impact on Rugby as he did.
jonah lomu is the man who got swallowed by a fish and got spat out on new zealand not 40 days but 4000 and that is why hes amazing he had so much time to practise and ...... HE IS THE RUGBY MESSIAH
@91gt306 well I'll say this, Jonah would have been better than any running back in NFL history, he's a lineman who can run just as fast as any running back plus he's got better skills at breaking tackes
lol looks like the aussies were the only people in the world to tackle him more then once in a game to do it 5 times over every single one of those tackle to be from infront of him and not being plowed omfg amzaing
@91gt306 I read an article on bleacher report talking about how good Jonah would have been had he played gridiron, I doubt any article talking about sanders or payton playing rugby because they would be average players.
@91gt306 I agree thou I love Rugby I use to watch alot of NFL and it has bigger, faster and stronger players in it. It's because they play at 5-10sec spurts each down burst with Rugby the players are all go for 40min at a time. Jonah would have done well but I don't think he would have dominated
Jonah Lomu...i cant say anything else about him..he is my inspiration
he is the brave and the bold player in rugby history
he is a legend for me
I loved watching and playing rugby because of Big Jonah one of a kind. Still missed and will always be remembered.
Words can't describe the admiration i have for this man, a true legend
gotta admit gregan did pretty good on tackling lomu
JONAH LOMU - Too Big, Too Strong, Too Good.

agree
one of my favorite piece about Lomu in here
thx

R.I.P Jonah forever remembered and admired hail the G.O.A.T
Jonah Lomu - A man as tall as most second-rows, as heavy as most props and faster than most wingers.

6:35 Look at that back 3 just Legendary, miss those days but thankyou very much for the memories Jonah rest easy big man
Lomu, Howlett and Cullen. Possibly the most deadly back 3 in rugby ever
good old little gregan brang him down twice...love to lomu
i have read a book about jonah lomu and many clubs of both codes offered him millions per year to come to their club but he stayed down in new zealand not earning as much... he got offers from nfl teams at about 3-5 million a year or something like that i can't remember but he stayed down in new zealand..... loyalty.... there is your perfect rugby player
JONAH LOMU still my rugby hero
What a Legend !!! and I am a Boks supporter!
Lomu a legend forever!
"THE LEGEND"!! FOREVER...
@csdavis2386
No Lomu suffered from Kidney problems. He was amazing to play through his illness the way that he did.
all the player u can name none of them compair to this man he was fast he was strong an he was a super star
George Gregan 4:48 you are the man, that is why your a legend
@MasterSenji jonah reached a level of fame that would never ever be attained by another rugby player yet he still remained grounded he was dealt a cruel hand with hs kidney disorder yet remains an inspiration to this day for everything he has been through & overcome a true legend of the game

11sec isn't extremely quick but when we're talking about a man that stands 6'5 at 118kg yeah that's pretty quick alright.
Quite possibly the best and most versatile player to ever play the game....one on one against any player i'd put money on Jonah everytime
Always amazes me how its the smallest guy on the field who can bring down the Tank
That's not taking anything away from Jonah
That's giving due credit unto Gregan, at 4:50
no nfl player can match this combo of speed and strength
man lomu coulda been anything! fast enough to be a wing tall enough to be a lock and heavy enough to be a prop!
Man if only he had the opportunity to play outside Joe Stanley!
I remember the 96 NZ sevens team training in Tauranga! excellent player the best of the best go all blacks

Massive game he was and still is a legend both on and off the field.
gregan is the only person who could really tackle him what a player
Nobody talks about his speed! Yes, he was very powerful, but his speed is incredible!
@djniah14 gregan was an incredible tackler
I LOVE lomu, and think he as an absolute animal, Barry Sander's however was put on this earth solely to play running back, dont compare the two, They were kings in there respective sports honestly who cares about what they would do playing somethign else
Lomu would have dominated in the NFL he's got the Skills,Size,Speed,Power,Knowledge of betting defenders and that rugby players are better tacklers than nfl players
@the26thhour
to be fair it was Gregan's feet which tripped Lomu up, not a proper tackle
@91gt306 you're absolutely. Jonah would probably moved to a TE or use as a FB in 3r down situations.
Big heart, great player.....fuckin legend!!!!!
haloti came from rugby, there are many his size, but lack of fitness means they dont cut it in (top notch) rugby. the main difference in athleticism, imo, is that nfl has regular breaks and subs, so the player can afford to specialize, whilst in rugby you have to be able to do a little of everything as well as your main job

I'm proud to be a Tongan like him :)
Very good video
Rugby owes 100% of its current high profile to this man. A superstar.
Jonah Lomu is Tongan but yes David Tua is Samoan and both are great athletes.
he is the bestrugby player of the history
@91gt306 actually I know more about nfl than you do about rugby, another reason Jonah would dominate because I see Nfl finally discovering Polynesian athletes, Jonah Lomu is Tongan and so is Haloti Ngata, they both beasts, every time Jonah runs with the ball, he won't have to hide behind any blockers like payton and sanders .

Lomu is the tongan juggernaut !
i think there were NFL teams interested in him but i can't remember which.
i gotta get me one of those yellow addidas balls ^^
George North, the next Jonha Lomu
@csdavis2386
Check out John Kirwan as well for an amazing NZ winger.
I wanted to see him playing in NFL
A gentleman.
Who use to win? I know Jonah was quick for a big man but Joeli had outrageous pace.
lol, I bet everyone thought Lomu was away. To be fair the second time Gregan kinda tripped him.
@ChelseaFC4life24 Thats cool believe everything you read. While you're at it check out the article from another "professional sports writer" that said he would have run the 40 in 4.2-4.3sec lol. Hey Does anyone have a copy of that disallowed try from the 1995 world cup final would love to take another look at it.
Peter Stringer took him down, and he's under 5 foot 10..Intellegence is key.
@VagabondShoes He was 120kgs 6'5 and could officialy run the 100m in 11sec. 10.8sec unofficially but you have to remember this is before Rugby went professional and with it the players started to get stronger, bigger and more athletic all round.

6:29 the human juggernaut well when he comes up against my fmg9 akimbo the commentator won't be so sure of that
@AllaboutSk8 The best ever on planet.
the lawrence taylor of rugby
What are you on about? He's a beast!
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THE SONG
@herse88 no he is Tongan but New Zealand born and raised.
jonah lomu is the man who got swallowed by a fish and got spat out on new zealand not 40 days but 4000 and that is why hes amazing he had so much time to practise and ...... HE IS THE RUGBY MESSIAH
Lomu was a world sensation but could never win over many kiwis who always critisised him for lack of D.
@91gt306 well I'll say this, Jonah would have been better than any running back in NFL history, he's a lineman who can run just as fast as any running back plus he's got better skills at breaking tackes
i'm a rugby fan but comparing sanders to lomu doesn't make sense, he played more like cullen. lomu would definitely have done well in the nfl though
lol looks like the aussies were the only people in the world to tackle him more then once in a game to do it 5 times over every single one of those tackle to be from infront of him and not being plowed omfg amzaing
If lomu was ever 100% healthy, he would have manhandled the entire england team and springboks.
@91gt306 I read an article on bleacher report talking about how good Jonah would have been had he played gridiron, I doubt any article talking about sanders or payton playing rugby because they would be average players.
@havea07 he ran 100m in 11-10.8secs and in 2001 he hit 128kg-130kg i cant rember exactly
kirwan, gallager, tuigamala
@KiwiBasher that's because him and the rest of the team got food poisoning in the 1995 world cup final...
Love this Guy, proud 2 b tongan
Hosea Gear not George North ! you'll see ! all blacks have a new coach and he has a chance in the black jersey :) but North is pretty good.
Did i just hear it say that Lomu played for the Cardiff Blues?
Was he using proteins?? I am so interested
i heard of lomu b4 i heard of the game of rugby.
@91gt306 I agree thou I love Rugby I use to watch alot of NFL and it has bigger, faster and stronger players in it. It's because they play at 5-10sec spurts each down burst with Rugby the players are all go for 40min at a time. Jonah would have done well but I don't think he would have dominated
imagine if lomuh had a twin as good as he was, on the other wing lol...
name number 20 wallabies min 3:01?
Lomu is too strong.
