- The only thing that never changes at Walt Disney World is the fact that things are ALWAYS changing, and Disney's Genie Plus service is no exception. Today we are covering the latest change to the line-skipping scheme that gives you access to those coveted Lightning Lanes, but now you might not have access to as many as you did before. Unless, of course, you don't mind paying more for the privilege. In today's video, we'll take you screen-by-screen of this new change and answer your biggest questions, including what this tweak tells us about the future of the Genie at Walt Disney World.

I want to thank you for all the tips and information you provide, we went on march and let me tell you that we rode almost everything (but jungle cruise and Aladdin carpet). We got to the park at 10:30 am and left after the night show and all of your trick on Genie + worked wonders. Playing the slots on the app got us 20 minutes return time vs 2 hours. Hi Rob, thanks for the great video. One bad thing about this is that AK and EP's lightning lane might be even harder to grab since the price dropped especially for the one-park-only guest. For HS and MK, since their price is the same as the all-four-park, the motivation of park hopping to the other parks (for those who purchased the park hopper option) becomes higher to maximize their utility. Even though the afternoon lightning lane might be easier to grab for MK and HS (skeptical but let's see), the lightning lane pressure will come to EP and AK, which Disney loves, because they are using the price discrimination-ish style to maximize their profit with almost no marginal cost. It is sad to see that by the end of the day, Disney always has a genius way to take your money out of your wallet and keeps testing your breaking point. Before hitting your breaking point, they will keep maximizing the profit. Now I feel Disney is only for rich people to have a perfect experience, and I won't be able to get a chance to go back to Disney anymore.😔
They found a way to monetize it by supposedly listening to the guests. In reality, the guests who were complaining about standing in long standby lines for the big ticket rides, either A. Did not want to get up early for rope drop. B. Did not learn how to use Fastpass. C. Have way more expendable income than I do. Disney could indeed have done with the free fastpass system what they did with Genie+ - only allowed guests one ride per attraction which would have freed up big ticket fastpasses somewhat for those less familiar with how to use the system. I am guilty of having ridden Space Mountain or Soarin or Test Track or the Haunted Mansion numerous times with Fastpass on the same day because at the time Disney allowed it.
Disney did remove parking fees, but in all honesty, I would rather pay to park than to ride.....
Hi Johnny - I hadn’t really thought about the effect on Animal Kingdom and Epcot, but that is a good point. I do think this will lead to more Genie traffic in those parks, though if that comes to pass, it will follow that at least a decent portion of that traffic will have come from MK and HS users trying to maximize their hopper investment. I’m curious to see how things will go on July 4, though it’s not a totally fair experiment since that day is always so crazy at MK. We’ll see! I do still enjoy the parks a great deal without Genie. I pretty much never buy it unless I am making a video and I still always end up hitting all my favorite rides. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 😃
I have been hoping for a long time that Disney would give everyone at least one Lightning Lane (but ideally 2 or 3) and say that if you want more, you have to pay for the Genie. I think it would make a huge difference in how people feel about Genie and the cost of visiting the parks overall. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 😃

Yes - and you could also still stack with a single park version. Thankfully, the rest of Genie didn’t change.

Choose fun!!! Ride what you can and enjoy the journey...it could be an off day since it is weirdly in the middle of the week! Go in with low expectations on rides and wait times, and hopefully it turns out to be the most Magical day ever!!
I always have fun at MK - even on the days that are really challenging. I think the most important tip I can give you is to approach Genie like a game and know that you are basically playing in the World Series on a day like July 4. You’ll get some good wins and (at least for me) it can be a huge high when you score a Lightning Lane that seemed impossible to grab or you snag an immediate return time for a ride that was way backed up into late in the day. Just want to say thank you! Went to Magic Kingdom with my family and we rode just about everything before 7 o clock enough time to grab those souvenirs and some snacks for a pretty good spot for the fireworks show my wife was iffy about the Disney Genie and I told her I studied your videos especially this one for days 😂 so I told her it’s not a option and for anyone that might be thinking that I’ll simply put it this way if your traveling from a different state like me you’ve invested so much on your trip already it’s a must have because not only did we get to do everything with a hour rain delay by the way where rides were closed and then later swamped like crazy with people it was a no brainer at the end but the way your videos helped me was just so good so thank you once again you really helped make My family vacation not just be perfect at the most magical place on earth but what really made it all worth it was my daughters because they will never forget in there life this day and that to me is priceless so God bless and continue to put this videos out because your amazing at it!

I really thought Disney had recognized the frustrations of guests about all the price hikes. However much you dislike paying for Genie+, at least it was one price and you had freedom to use it all day hopping between parks. Charging for specific parks (AND MORE THAN THE GENERIC $15 FOR ALL PARKS) really is a kick in the teeth. More money-grabbing from Disney??? Argh!

You missed a huge bad change. One LL per genie + per person per day! What is that all about? Last year you could buy genie + and use it on rides multiple times. Plus a 3 hour with after a 7am booking then every 2 hours there after if you are stacking. Really poor from Disney. Makes universal all the more appealing.

Love all your videos and your energy. Coming to WDW for our first visit since 2018 as we are Canadian and covid border shutdowns ended with us selling our DVC points... I have a big Genie+ question that I can't find the answer to anywhere...
We are flying in early on Aug 8th to Pop Century and have the 4 day 4 parks pass so we don't (and can't) make park reservations but we are heading to Epcot after dropping our bags at Pop.
So my question is if I at 7am buy the Genie- can I book a return time for after lunch right at 7am? We've never been on Remy obviously but I'm assuming that by the time we actually get there the return times will all be gone...

Hello Rob! Thank you so much for your videos! I was curious if you park hop and only need the Genie+ for the park hopping to, can you purchase the genie+ for the one park or do you have to buy the hopper pass? Meaning, if i start at AK and hop to Epcot, can I buy the Epcot genie+ at the lower rate compared to the hopper genie+ for both if I only want genie for Epcot? Thank you!!

I don't think this makes the park hopping decision any different for non ap/local guests. they either have park hopper tickets or not.
It does make a difference for many. UK tickets all have park hopper included so for my trip in January I have 14 days of park hopper tickets but I don’t intend to park hop on any day but especially not on a day I’m doing MK and so I would never choose to purchase multi park Genie+.
This doesn’t effect me though as I’m happier to purchase individual parks as and when we feel we’d like it. Certainly not all our days but perhaps one day for each park during our 14 days.
I think for US guests then yes they pay extra for a park hopper so would unlikely pay for that and then choose an individual Genie+ ticket
I think the way this affects those folks is that they are more likely to spring for AK or Epcot Genie because it seems like a comparative bargain. But yes, folks who would already plan to park hop and use Genie will likely not change their plans.
That’s so interesting. I had no idea UK tickets were park hopper only. You can’t buy tickets through the US website and get the normal ones?
@@EarScouts yes so I think if you use a VPN you can buy standard tickets but ours are so good value you’d never really want to. Ours our 14 days for the price of 7, includes park hopper and memory maker, water parks too, 15% off at Shop Disney, daily mini golf before 4pm included and Disney Oaks golf included. There may be more but that’s what I can think off the top of my head. We’re coming for two weeks in January and our park tickets for all that for 14 days was just over £520pp ($614) a tiny by less for my 4 year old.
Our park tickets per day work out such good value. It’s still an incredibly expensive trip once you add hotel, airport parking, flights, insurance etc around $10k for 2adults and 1 kid with spends but the Disney tickets are really good value for all they include 😊
We just got back from an 8 day trip to Disney World. Genie Plus worked like a charm for my 9 person group. Thanks to Ear Scouts for all the guidance - certainly made it easy to navigate everything!
If they bring back a fast pass option-it will be for a fee on top of the cost. And that 27 pass for all parks? I’d bet you a dolewhip or a zombie at trader sams that that cost will throttle up to 40/50 on weekends or holidays…or when they feel the urge.

I have *no idea* how people manage to do a Disney vacation without researching nowadays and that makes me extremely thankful for Rob but also so sad for the old days of just showing up at the park and running around joyously with no schedule, phones, or gimmicks.

How do you decide if you’re going to get Genie+ so early in the morning? I’m going in two weeks when the crowd calendars say crowds will be at there lowest so I’m thinking I won’t need it but how do I deally decide?

Not going to lie, I was hoping when you said we had to make a choice with genie+, that one of the choices would be purchasing an ultimate genie+ which allows you to jump in any lightening lane ride without having book first (like they have in Paris). Worth every penny!

I know there are people who like Genie+ more than the old fastpass because of not having to plan ahead but for those of us that do want to plan, it made it so much easier. I would map out my route around the park (don’t like a lot of crisscrossing) based on the 3 rides I picked and where they were, book dining around that, and still have plenty of unplanned time to do whatever we felt like. But I only really looked at my phone while I was in line grabbing another ride. I didn’t have to be on it constantly because I had a route and could just enjoy myself knowing I had things booked. I think the best trip is a mix of pre-booked and spontaneity. And no huge pressure at 7am!
Yes - I have heard this from lots of people. For me, I don’t love the old way because I never know what day I’m going to be at a particular park, so it’s tough to plan ahead. I think that’s true for a lot of locals and people who come frequently. That said, I can totally see the appeal for folks who plan their trip months in advance. Personally, my preference would be that they allow everyone to book 1-2 Lightning Lanes in advance for free. And if you want more, you can pay for Genie and start booking your next ride at 7am like it is now. I think that would allow everyone to have a better experience and would likely lead to people liking the Lightning Lane system more than they do currently.
I agree. With genie + I am on my phone more than I care to be. And I only want to get up at 7 to get ready to head to the park and not be on my phone trying to pick rides. I like to have all of that planned already.

I think Disney definitely wants to simultaneously give guests the best experience so that they will keep coming back and also make as much money as possible in the process. It’s a delicate balancing act for sure and they seem to be erring on the side of $$$ lately. 😂 That said, they definitely are thinking about those once in a lifetime folks who will spend whatever it takes to have the perfect trip and those with such deep pockets that price is not relevant. I really hope prices start to come back to earth soon, though. It’s a shame that so many families can’t afford to enjoy these parks even once.
if you are starting the day at animal kingdom and hopping to DHS at 2 but don’t plan to book any lightning lanes for animal kingdom… do you need to buy genie+ multi park or can you just buy the genie+ for DHS?

You are the first person to mention this is a plan to limit the number of park hoppers into the busy parks taking genie plus spots, I never thought of that and no one else seems to have thought that either, but that makes so much sense.
It makes total sense. And I think they're trying to get more people to use it on their AK (and to a lesser extent EPCOT,) day.
@@militarytravelhacks2023 when I went in May and January we got it both trips on those days, I could tell AK lots of people don’t get it as much, I do because I hop those days I want to maximize my time. But in Epcot it seemed both trips like there were lots of people using G+ because the top 6 ride offerings sold out

You saved our Disney Trip!!!! I found your videos about using Genie Plus the night before we went to the parks for the first time ever. Your info helped us ride every ride in magic kingdom (minus Tron - because of kids roller coaster fear). It was the best theme park experience ever. We skipped every line. It was an amazing day that will always be remembered by our family.

I have a question, I’m going to do Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studio on the same day.
Obviously I’m going to buy the Genie+, which park you recommend for us to do first?
The reason that I’m asking is that at Hollywood studios by the time we get there 2:00pm all the “main” attractions are going to be full, in scared that if we go to Animal Kingdom first cannot do the good ones at Hollywood studio but because Animal close earlier I don’t think we are going to be able to do all the attractions there… that it’s why I’m confused.
Hello! Thanks so much for subscribing! For me, I would say do Animal Kingdom first and just alternate between booking rides for AK and DAK. There are a few reasons for this: 1) AK opens earlier, so you maximize park time 2) HS has a great nighttime show (Fantasmic) so you want to end the night there 3) You can’t book for your second park until the return times show for after 2pm - that happens very quickly with several rides in HS, not so much in AK. Just make sure you book Slinky Dog early. As soon as it shows after 2pm, grab it and then use the two hour rule. Alternate between booking for AK and HS until you hop. Hope you have a great time! 😃

We will be in WDW in about 3 weeks and this will help us understand the new changes, I just wish they would stop for now (the changes not your video). I feel this change really impacts us because we have park hopper tickets and it will be a larger hit to my wallet. Will the cost of the ticket fluctuate or is the price fixed? So informative… thank you! This is yet another way for Disney to track planned visitors, and also to make money off of AK and Epcot visitors. Previously, if the price was $25-$35, they probably had very few people who would buy Genie+ for AK and Ep, but now they can price it a little lower for those parks and get people to buy it! I admit… if they end up pricing it below $15 for those parks, I’d probably buy it. I really hope that they will soon allow pre-booking of LLs! Thanks for keeping us up to date on breaking news!
I’m thinking when Tianas Bayou opens up it’s going to be a for purchase lightening lane which is kinda a rip off considering it’s a remake of a ride that was on the Genie Plus. Maybe I’m wrong I guess we shall see.
I have a question for you. If you buy for say only HS but go to Epcot first then hop to HS. As an annual pass holder I like to stack all my LL for the evening.
Kali River Rapids is so anticlimactic! They really need to upgrade the ride. You either get soaked or nothing at all. Genie+ is getting so unaffordable for us passholders. 😢 Thank you always keeping us in the loop and providing such great insight!
Hey rob! So glad we got to meet you yesterday on July 4th. Have they changed something about the 2 hour rule? Both yesterday and today I often noticed it was just one hour in between when I could book another. Ex: booked one at 1:55 and it said I could book the next one at 2:55
Thank you so much for your videos! I would really appreciate if you could answer some questions I have about Genie Plus. I am going in a group of 7 ( 2 children, 5 adults) and my youngest child cannot ride many of the attractions. Also 1 or 2 of the adults might choose not to ride the most extreme rides like coasters. What strategy would you suggest?. Can we be logged on on individual accounts and manage different party sizes for some of the attractions? for example, one account managing the whole group, other one managing the 4 people that would ride most of the rides and so on? I think you mention in one of your videos that if you want to edit the group, you would have to start from the beginning. I hope I explained myself... and hopefully you'll answer me! thank you so much!!
Hello! These are great questions and a unique situation. I would recommend starting with rides that are the most difficult to book that everyone wants to ride. Our Genie videos for each park go over what those key rides are. They are mostly thrill rides, but not all - especially in Magic Kingdom where Jungle Cruise and Peter Pan’s Flight tend to be the top two. Keep in mind that you can use rider switch for rides where the littlest ones cannot ride. Someone stays with the little one(s) and then a limited number of people from the full group gets to ride again with that person who stayed behind. Ask about this at the attraction when you tap in. Once you’ve gotten the key rides done as a group, go ahead and start booking for your smaller groups within the group. You could have different folks set up the free Genie service with a different subset of the group or just tap edit selections on the My Day view (not the Tip Board view) and it will let you reset your selections for who is in your group. Keep in mind that everyone still has the same restrictions on when they can book their next Lightning Lane and that they can only book a Lightning Lane for each attraction once per day. Hope that helps!

Hi, Rob. Thanks for doing these great videos. Got back last week (before this new wrinkle in the Genie+ saga) and your tips/tricks were on point for everything. We had a fabulous trip.
IMO - Disney is backtracking. Supposedly one of the complaints with free fastpass was because some people couldn't get the hang of using it and therefore couldn't snag the "good" big ticket rides and didn't want to plan in advance. Now Disney has come up with Genie+ (which as you stated in your video is way more complicated) which was supposed to help level the playing field for everyone on snagging rides because they didn't have to plan ahead if they didn't want to since everyone has to choose day of. But now Disney is going back to a pre-ride selection model (they just found a way to monetize it - shocking). Wouldn't it have been nice if they had just limited each person to one time on each ride on free fastpass to ensure that there were plenty of ride opportunities to go around? That literally was the root of the supposed issue. Yes, I did purchase G+ for half my trip but for the most part, we didn't need it. Our longest ride wait was for ROR and that was only 40 minutes in the middle of the day.

@@EarScouts It goes deep. "So I paid an engineer to develop an AI simulation" deep. Fast Pass was amazing for people who knew how to use it to it's fullest extent, but for the once in a lifetime visitor - the people it was arguably made for so they could get the most out a visit - it didn't help control crowds or lower wait times. Very mixed. It came out right when the virus closed the parks, so it doesn't cover Genie + beyond what it was promised to be: a digital copy of the old old paper ticket system, idealized and improved.
The math is beautiful, but I'm into stats.
My wife and I really enjoy your videos. We find them one of the best and most helpful with navigating the parts with all the tips and tricks. I would like to see a little more park hopping involving Cheney plus. More specifically, the exact way to purchase lightning lanes for the afternoon parks. What times are you allowed to do so. My wife and I have some disagreements on what we think is right and wrong and we don’t seem to find much clarity either way. we have an upcoming trip in late August where we will be park hopping and we’re trying to find the best set up to let us use cheating plus across at least two or three parks and be able to pick up lightning Lanes for most of the stuff that we would want to do.
So a thought about upgrading to a park hopper G+.
Since G+ allows for one use per ride, would the new park hopper purchase reset that counter or would it still have the completed ride on your account for the day?🤔

Nope. I still recommend getting it early (before 7am), but no need to stay up until midnight. It has never sold out before park open before. If that changes, we’ll let you know. I think it might be possible when they reintroduce the ability to pre-purchase Genie Plus in advance (which they haven’t officially said that they are doing, but it seems pretty clear that’s what they will do). Thanks for the update! Another negative is that I can no longer view the prices for genie plus in the UK. I like to keep an eye on prices leading up to a trip so I can plan budget accordingly.

Can I ask… if we pay parking at the start of the day… and choose to leave the park mid afternoon to go back to our resort to freshen up …. Is the parking still valid should we return that day for the evening fireworks??

Scheduling fast passes 90 days out takes the value of Genie plus away. It's easier to get rides the way it is than going back to that. If they want to improve anything let everyone have the ability to book the same ride more than once if available after 2pm or something.
if you use it correctly you don't have to crisscross the parks. You ride the rides in one section at a time and enjoy your day.
I think the folks who want to schedule in advance are more concerned about using their park time to book rides. In their mind, they’ll book what they care most about before they arrive and not have to open the app much during their visit. For me, I prefer the current way of doing things because I can’t plan that far out and would likely never get great return times early in the day. We’ll see what Disney does, but I think some form of pre-booking is coming back. 🫤
Going back would put non resort guests at disadvantage and make it harder for everyone to get the most popular rides because they would be booked 90 days out like dining reservations. I wish people would realize they would be the same. Think about getting all excited about a trip then not being able to do anything because it's booked before you get there 3 months ahead of time.
Excellent content as usual. I really hope they will bring back old fast pass way of doing things … I enjoyed my last trip in 11/22 BUT so stressed planning each and every morning with Genie. Thanks again Rob - Disney should hire you !

This my second superThanks to Rob (the other one is on his most viewed video). These videos are absolute gold, thanks to these videos me and my family (wife + 2 daughters of 5 and 2 years old) were able to make the most out of genie+ and ride practically ALL rides at the 4 disney parks, both with genie+ and booking the 2 virtual queues. The ones we didn't (just aerosmith and tower of terror) where cause we prioritized the girls and her character meetings. Keep in mind that in order to achieve this level of rides you obviously need to be very informed, proactive, and move around a lot through the parks, but we enjoy that intensity and had a wonderful vacation. This video is a MUST for that.
Just as additional help, I want to detail what we were able to do in all of the 4 parks since it's pretty impressive. Without this video and Rob's advice this would've been absolutely impossible. Once again, thanks a lot for all your help and guidance!

If I have already pre-purchased a 10 day park ticket and a 10 day park hopper pass, can I now purchase a genie plus for say EPCOT at $18.00 and then hop to MK after 2pm and still use the genie plus that I purchased for EPCOT????
Hi Garry - unfortunately, your Genie usage will be limited to the park(s) you purchase it for. If you get a single park version, it will only work there even if you have a park hopper ticket.

These videos are soooooo helpful!!!! I've been going to Disney every other year for the past 20 years, and I thought I was pretty knowledgeable, but things change so often! The last time I went was when Genie Plus first came out. It took me two days of trial and error, and time wasted in the parks to figure out how it really worked! I'm heading back to Disney in 3 months, and these videos are getting me so pumped. I actually feel like I'll be able to tackle everything I want to get done! Thank you!!!

Great questions - yes, you can still stack, either in the same park with the individual park version or wherever with the hopper version of Genie Plus. Personally, I would love an Annual Pass add-on, but I haven’t heard any indication that’s coming. It would have to be very expensive to prevent the system from getting bogged down with all the passholders using it. Maybe it could be limited the way AP’s have been lately? Thanks for watching! 😃

I agree, I do not like that you have to choose in the morning you want to PH or not. What Disney should have done was made a price for each park and then made PH an add on price. For example: You buy only AK in the morning and then decide you want to go to MK and then go back on app and pay a smaller fee such as $5-$10 for add on PH. But I truly believe they are testing it out on what people are buying and then change pricing again.

Any idea if you can buy genie plus for just the park you plan to hop to? Planning a trip for November and we were planning to hop from AK to Epcot one day but only use genie plus to stack rides for Epcot. PS love all your videos, thank you for making them!

That’s my question too. I’d rather rope drop, then use genie at my second park. But I haven’t heard if that’s something we can do.
This is my question as well. Between rope drop and my son's DAS pass we won't need Genie + for AK but I do want it when we hop into Epcot. We will already have to buy LLs for Guardians but it would be nice if I didn't have to pay for the park hopper Genie + as well.
Yes - you can choose to purchase Genie Plus at any park that you have the ability to enter. So if you have a park hopper, that would mean you could purchase for any park regardless of what your park pass is for.
Yes - you can still purchase for any park you have access to.

You can always bet that whatever Disney does, it will be to maximize profit. 😂 But there are two ways to do it - raise prices on what people will still pay for, or lower prices to drive up demand. I think we are seeing both of those strategies here with the spike for MK, HS and hoppers and a price cut for AK and Epcot. So at least half of their plan will save us some $$$ this time. 😅
